Watched this movie finally for the first time and now I see why this has quite the cult following--it's beautiful, romantic and it breathes sensuality without being dirty! Chris Reeve was in fine form and Jane Seymour (drop dead gorgeous) was also wonderful. The ending was very bittersweet.

Somewhere in Time is a great movie. I saw it for the first time when WGN aired it on Valentine's Day. Now I'm going to get it for my mom's birthday.

That was one of my grandma's all-time favorite movies. She loved both stars (and was a huge fan of Jane Seymour's Dr. Quinn). Grandma also had the soundtrack and wore it out so she had to buy another copy. Ironically, only a couple of weeks after she passed in May 1995 was when Chris Reeve had his accident. May they both :rip:.

I have mixed emotions about that movie. First of all, it is soooooooooo cheesy. But, I grant you, sometimes cheese is good. I like cheese. But this one seemed too much even for me.

Jane Seymour and Chris Reeve are both great actors, but imo their chemistry was a bit off. I never believed for a second that they were in love, let alone the my-life-is-meaningless-without-it kind of love. They didn't have much to work with when they're given lines like "Is it you?" and "Is he the one?"

The rest of the cast, however, was great. Don't forget Captain von Trapp himself was in that movie - doing a dang good job, I think. And this is also one of the last performances of one of my favorite actresses of all time, Teresa Wright. (If you don't recognize the name, do yourself a favor and rent The Best Years of Our Lives right now!)

I think what I really like about the movie is the art direction and music. I have the soundtrack cd - and have played it many, many times. But the photography is stunning. Somewhere in Time was filmed in the most beautiful part of Michigan, Mackinac Island (that's pronounced "MAK-E-NAW" for you non-Michiganders). It's kind of Michigan's best-kept secret.

Maybe that's my big problem with the movie. I grew up not too far away from Mackinac, and I experienced the Somewhere in Time parties at the Grand Hotel, which kind of scare me. Rocky Horror fans don't scare me, Somewhere in Time fans do. They take the film very seriously. They go to these parties, dress up like the characters, and even name their children after Richard or Elise (or both). That's just wrong, people! And they've written a book about what happened to Elise in the seventy years she waited to return a watch... they're trying to get it turned into a movie... yikes.

Found the link to the fan club:

The International Network of Somewhere In Time Enthusiasts (INSITE)

If you're interested, their next gathering at Mackinac is scheduled for this October. You can go, dress up, stay at the hotel, attend a grand luncheon, and watch Somewhere in Time over and over. It only costs about nine hundred dollars (airfare not included)

The movie itself actually kind of creeped me out. The good thing is that Christopher Reeve and Jane Seymour remained lifelong friends - she even named one of her twins after him. :D

I know, that's very sweet. It's wonderful they became such good friends.

I just couldn't possibly get as into the movie as some of the people I've met. If it wasn't so much of a cult I mightn't be so turned off by it. Notice I didn't say "cult-classic." This is a CULT. It's a religion to some of them. That's creepy.

I never could quite get into the movie itself. I did love the costumes, the visuals and the music, but just couldn't get into the story itself. The end of the movie completely creeped me out. I haven't seen the movie in years and it still gives me goosebumps and not in a good way.
