I can understand people don't want to get labeled as spoiled, but c'mon Vanessa, your mother's a lawyer, and your father's a doctor.....ya'll got some cheese! LOL She probably went to school bragging about her parent's profession! When I was growing up, the poor kids got picked on, by kids with or without money! She shouldn't have let it bother her. What was she going to do, prove that she wasn't rich, and tell the girl that she was poor? You're damned if you do, and damned if you don't!

I think that Vanessa was offended because they meant it in a snobby way. They thought that she was showing off by telling the girls how much Clair payed for that painting. Then she took them on a tour around the house so it might have seemed like she was being a rich snob when she was just trying to become popular and make friends.

Vanessa could have responded with a "You hate me because you ain't me"
LOL

tanquant is right. It's the connotation that she was a snob that Vanessa objected to.

"Sponji Reggae" (1981)- Black Uhuru (the song that Denise and her boyfriend were going "Hey Mon")
