Sorry...I've been watching the "Land of the Lost" marathon on Sy Fy channel (yesterday anyway) and that's been going through my head for a while. :)

I really loved that show as a kid and watching it again yesterday reminded me of how truly GOOD is was. People can laugh at the hokey effects (well, some of them anyway), but no one can deny that this was a very sophisticated children's show, one in which you truly felt a sense of danger for the characters, where the universe they dwelt in was specific, compelling and governed by rules that were consistent and that there was a true sense of wonder and mystery in each and every episode. You never knew what was going to happen; a guy in a balloon shows up, a Medusa attacks, an abominable snowman, a Pylon transports Holly to different universes, a giant hole opens up in the middle of the jungle that leads to a pulsating red "heart" in a deep chasm, a fire breathing dinosaur creates trouble, a time travelling Sleestak is introduced...the list goes on.

I wish more children's shows, and for that matter, ADULT shows, had this level of intelligence and care put into them today! :)
