View Full Version : What is your most disappointing TV Land cancellation of this decade?
TVFactFan 05-25-2009, 02:01 PM The 2006 Cancellation of Benson was very disappointing to me since I was denied a opportunity to sample the show.
What cancellation this decade bothered you the most?
Chocoholic 05-25-2009, 02:03 PM When they got rid of two of my favorites, Wings and NewsRadio.

Those were N@N cancellations
robyrob 05-25-2009, 02:33 PM Benson
NewsRadio was never on TV Land. Wings moved to TV Land in 2004 and became a TV Land show, although it was acquired for NAN.
I say Dick Van Dyke Show in 2006.

What time of the day did Dick Van Dyke come on Tv Land
Buffyboy323 05-25-2009, 03:10 PM To me, the most disappointing "cancellation" TVLand has made this decade was probably when they got rid of Family Ties for the last time. Or earlier in the decade when they removed Maude from their schedule.
MikeLutton 05-25-2009, 03:11 PM mine was Night court n Happy days
What time of the day did Dick Van Dyke come on Tv LandSometime around 10AM usually....it was on N@N for years before moving to TV Land and being treated like garbage
tvparadise 05-25-2009, 03:35 PM I got to go with Cheers, Happy Days, and MacGyver.

When did they get rid of Family Ties?
TVFactFan 05-25-2009, 03:45 PM I got to go with Cheers, Happy Days, and MacGyver.
Happy Days was part of my daily schedule at 5pm every day during the week in the summer of 2002
To my knowledge, Family Ties never aired on TV Land. It was on NAN only. Maybe a Christmas episode but thats all IIRC.
tvparadise 05-25-2009, 04:28 PM Family Ties came to the daily schedule the same time that Cheers did in January 2004. They started off airing it at 11pm and I think like 4pm in the afternoons, but it was quickly moved to 3am where it stayed until it expired (around late 2004 if I remember correctly).

That could a reason I never got to see it since it was on either while I was at work or sleep so I can get up to go to work. I know I never seen it in between 7pm and 1am
janet42 05-25-2009, 05:47 PM When Dick Van Dyke Show and Emergency was canceled.

What cancellation this decade bothered you the most?Benson Season 1 is available on DVD. It's well worth the money.
TVFactFan 05-25-2009, 09:59 PM Benson Season 1 is available on DVD. It's well worth the money.
I can't buy the DVD yet because I haven't had a chance to sample the show. 2006 was my chance
Almost everything, especially in the 2003-2005 era. But ESPECIALLY "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman." You do not show only 35 episodes of a show that made 325!
Cactus Jack 05-26-2009, 12:26 PM Everything from the 2002-2006 era ( Happy Days, Munsters, Bewitched,Jeannie, Three's Company, Get Smart, Bob Newhart,Lucy etc. )
TC is still on there so are Jeffersosns and Sanford and Son but I dont like the timeslot!
Barney Miller 2003-I was starting to get into this show before they took it off.
Dennis th Menace, Doona Reed, Hazel, ect. all those screen Gems and Warner shows they had on in 2002-2003 I only got about 50 shows each taped off.
benjamoon 05-26-2009, 01:45 PM I was very sad at the end of the summer 2003 when they got rid of "Mary Tyler Moore," "Batman," "Get Smart," and "Adventures of Superman" all at once - this was before most classic shows were available on DVD and the rest of "MTM" and all of "Batman" still aren't
megamanj2004 05-26-2009, 03:55 PM All those shows that came and went between 2001-06.
Perfect Strangers - Both N@N and TV Land treated show like garbage only airing most eps. from the 1st several seasons and only rerunning those eps. before killing them for good.
MacGyver
Hunter - I never even got to see the series finale episode yet.
Simon & Simon - Yes, TV Land very briefly aired this show as part of a series of rotating shows from the Universal package and they only aired the 1st season and very little of S2 before it was gone. To make matters worse, TV Land never even decided if they wanted to even keep the show or not as they did w/ a few other Universal shows they rotated w/ S&S.
Barney Miller
Star Trek - the banishment of ST to the wee hours of the morning showed TV Land at its finest-all-time worst.
Batman
Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman - not a big fan, but there were plenty of eps. of this to go around.
Brady Bunch, The
Happy Days
Munsters, The
Addams Family
Knight Rider - another Universal show victimized by TV Land's B-S
Benson
Family Ties - both N@N and TV Land also mishandled this show
Murphy Brown
Night Court
Dick Van Dyke Show, The
WKRP in Cincinatti - they didn't even get to the final season of this show.
Soap

Was MTM on in the morning? I know it didn't come on in primetime
benjamoon 05-26-2009, 10:08 PM Was MTM on in the morning? I know it didn't come on in primetime
Yeah in the morning they showed Get Smart/Bob Newhart/Mary Tyler Moore/Dick Van Dyke from 8-10am if I remember correctly
TVFactFan 05-26-2009, 11:05 PM Yeah in the morning they showed Get Smart/Bob Newhart/Mary Tyler Moore/Dick Van Dyke from 8-10am if I remember
correctly
That explains why I never had a chance to sample it
Actually MTM was in primetime in 2001, at 9pm (at least in April)

Remember it aired on NAN many years before so it was "shifted."

Ok thanks, I wasn't watching TV land in 2001 so that's another reason why I never saw.
Ok thanks, I wasn't watching TV land in 2001 so that's another reason why I never saw.Actually I never remember it airing there. I had TV Land since 1996 but never really watched until sometime in 2001, by then MTM was on in the mornings only.
gidgetgrape 05-27-2009, 12:05 AM I was totally p.o. when they pulled SOAP and Square Pegs without showing all the episodes, but I've gotten over that since the DVDs came out.
I miss Mister Ed and My Three Sons (I know they were both on NAN too). Bring back TV Land Time Warp, Box Set and Fandemonium Marathons while you're at it!

The Kitschen, Better Living Through Television, Box Sets, and Sunday Best were FABULOUS. Loved them all.
YES! Those were the best. I loved them all. If they brought those back, it would be great to see them air some episodes of shows that haven't aired since their initial network cancellation. I always loved seeing those rare shows.
Add to that... when they cancelled "It's A Living" after only a handful of episodes.
Cactus Jack 05-27-2009, 11:06 AM Yeah in the morning they showed Get Smart/Bob Newhart/Mary Tyler Moore/Dick Van Dyke from 8-10am if I remember correctly
Loved watching those!
Cactus Jack 05-27-2009, 11:08 AM I also loved it in late 03/early 04 when the 5/4c timeslot had a different show every day I think it went Bewitched, Lucy, Jeannie,Beaver,AITF
Cactus Jack 05-27-2009, 11:12 AM And why do westerns have to be from 12-3/1-4? I remember when those times slots included lucy and Gilligan. Sanford and Son etc.
Cactus Jack 05-27-2009, 11:13 AM Also I was pissed when HD was replaced by Mr. Ed in its 5/4c pm timeslot
And why do westerns have to be from 12-3/1-4? I remember when those times slots included lucy and Gilligan. Sanford and Son etc.
I think westerns probably work extremely well there. That's when their audience is most likely to A, be at home, and B, be in complete control of the TV.
Ypper Skipper 05-27-2009, 01:09 PM I was disappointed when TVLand stopped airing "Welcome Back, Kotter" and "The Bob Newhart Show". Great 70s sitcoms. I was more pissed off when TVLand started airing infomercials early in the morning. Sorry, I want Horshack, not that creepy pencil-moustached guy who talks about colon cleansing...yeesh!!!
