In the episode where Samantha called Nell the "n" word the Chief goes through the roof. Samantha, knowing she is in deep sh*t, runs for the bathroom. I can't help but wonder what the Chief would have done if he had caught her. He told her through the bathroom that he was taking off his belt. Do you think he would have given her a few licks with it? Man, when you watch these shows you realize just how much times have changed. It would seem strange seeing a scene like that on today. That episode was from 1982, and I was only 3 when it aired. How bad of a whipping do you think Samantha would have gotten, and do you think she would have deserved it?

I think Nell would have held him back a bit.

I aggree that Nell would probably have intercepted. She seemed like the most level-headed of the group. Also, I do not think that Samantha deserved to be physically hurt. She was a very confused pre-addolecent who needed to be spoken to on a rational sensable lever.

I figure the Chief was going to spank Samantha. But Nell would have stopped him. Remember in the episode where the Chief is taking off his belt to give Katie a whipping? The look on her face was priceless. Then she ran off and Nell defended her, and stopped the Chief.

It would seem strange seeing a scene like that on today. That episode was from 1982.

Yeah, times have changed. You would never see John Ritter take off his belt to give Bridget a spanking on "8 Simple Rules" or Jim spanking one of his daughters on "According to Jim." Not unless it was a very special episode ABOUT the spanking, rather than just in passing.

People of this time just prefer other forms of punishment. I don't always agree with that, but that's how it is.
