benjamoon 05-25-2009, 07:30 PM Perhaps the best of all time was Woody in "Cheers." They managed to replace an extremely lovable with a different, but equally lovable character who filled the void

megamanj2004 05-26-2009, 04:12 PM BEST:
Jefferson D'arcy (MWC) - Steve was more the straight man to Al's antics, Jefferson played up more of the sidekick to Al's schenanigans.
Angel (Rockford Files) - he did a good job providing comic relief to the show, despite his tendency to get Rockford in hot water at times.
Sgt. Jablonski (Robert Prosky; Hill Street Blues) - he did an excellent job filling in for Sgt. Esterhaus (Michael Conrad) and didn't try to "BE" Esterhaus.
Cheryl Ladd's character; Charlie's Angels - I preferred her over the over-rated Farrah Fawcett, b/c she melded well with the team.
WORST:
Sam (Diff'rent Strokes) - he was very annoying to say the least.
Maggie (Diff'rent Strokes) - should be called "Naggy," b/c sometimes she comes as naggy and the 2nd actor that played her I couldn't stand at all.
Olivia (Cosby Show, The) - started off good but got very annoying soon after.
Josh Myers or whatever his name was character in the 8th season of That '70s Show - mainly b/c of the way he made out w/ Donna...in Eric's bedroom of all places!
Every new cast member that debuted in the 12th season of Hawaii Five-O - The less said, the better.
Beau DeLaBarre - he tried too much to act like he was a sweathog. To quote Vinnie (John Travolta): "Who is this clown?"
Chachi (Happy Days) - it's bad enough I couldn't stomach him on HD, but to give him his own shows?! WtF?!

Lindsay Monroe - CSI:NY
Kat Miller - Cold Case
David Rossi - Criminal Minds

Jeff Billings - The Wonder Years
Chuck Coleman - The Wonder Years
megamanj2004 05-28-2009, 12:21 PM More to add to my list:
BEST:
Rebecca Howe; Cheers - She molded better w/ the cast than Diane ever did, IMO.
Jack Denton; Nurses - Although Nurses became silly when he came, I did enjoy his character though.
WORST:
Scrappy Doo; Scooby Doo - If you have a character than can scare and make little kids cry, you know they're horrible! And Scrappy Doo is just that!
Casey McAfee; Nurses - She was very vain, and I just flat out couldn't stand her at all!
Dil Pickles; Rugrats - Why they needed to add another kid on there? He was just...BLAH!
Olive Oyl; Popeye - The less said about her voice, the better! She's just annoying and I never once understood why Popeye and Brutus were even fighting over her all those years.
Pebbles and Bamm-Bam (when they got much older) - I liked them when they were babies, but once they grew up, UGH! They became just another group of snotty teenagers you just wanna punch in the face.
browneyes106 05-28-2009, 10:36 PM BEST:

Kat Miller - Cold Case
David Rossi - Criminal Minds
Emily Prentiss - Criminal Minds
Worst:

I agree I couldn't stand her. The actress who played her was Sarah Brown whose acting experience is mostly on soaps but I never thought she was a great soap actress.
OOliver 06-01-2009, 10:12 AM Top 5 Best
1. Alexis Morel Carrington (Joan Collins), who joined "Dynasty'' in season 2 and sent the ratings flying into a new stratosphere.
2. Abby Fairgate Cunningham (Donna Mills) who did the same for ''Knots Landing'' as 'Alexis' did for ''Dynasty''.
3. The whole evolving cast of "Knots Landing" - there was not one 'bad character' (or bad actor/actress) in the cast additions over the fourteen year run.
4. Mr. Furley (Don Knotts) on "Three's Company". He was actually better than 'The Ropers'.
5. 'Etienne' (1992-93) and 'Vanessa' (1990-92) on "Designing Women". Each character was a recurring character on the show for a number of epsiodes (thanks to Anthony), and each should have been a permanent addition instead of the others (see #2 of 'Worst').
Top 5 Worst
1. 'Cindy Snow' (Jenilee Harrison) on "Three's Company". Unfunny character by an untalented actress.
2. 'Carlene', 'Allison', and 'BJ' on the remaining two years of "Designing Women". The show was 'circling the drain' with the addition of 'Allison' and finally went down with 'BJ'.
3. 'Ginny Roblicki' and 'Alex' on "One Day At A Time"...why bother?
4. 'Belle' on "Alice". A character with no place to go.
5. 'Esmerelda' on "Bewitched". She was no 'Aunt Clara'.
KurtfromPitts 06-01-2009, 02:39 PM Best: Jefferson D'Arcy-Married...With Children, Becky Donaldson Katsopolous-Full House. Worst: Viki Amory-Head Of The Class. Her New Age thinking annoyed me.

I just finished the first season (only six episodes) of 3C, and Larry is introduced in the 4th episode, so he was in the first season, but it wasn't suggested that he lived in the apartment complex.
megamanj2004 06-02-2009, 03:23 AM Coy and Vance - Dukes of Hazzard - I keep forgetting about how untalented and ugly these two dim-wits were!
browneyes106 06-02-2009, 09:35 AM I thought Rick Payne was a great character added to Ghost Whisperer after season 1.

Exactly.Plus he was only in the episode for a minute or to
browneyes106 06-13-2009, 10:12 PM Another new character that I liked was Beverly Ann Stickle on Facts of Life.

Ezri Dax (Nicole deBoer) on Star Trek-Deep Space Nine

Yes, that was Sarah Brown.
Furienna 06-14-2009, 12:09 AM Best new characters
1: Myra Monkhouse (Michelle Thomas), "Family Matters". (I have yet to see one other sitcom character, who reminds me that much of myself.)
2: Maxine Johnsson (Cherie Johnsson), "Family Matters". (She was much better than that bitch Laura.)
3: Pam Tucker (Erika Alexander), "The Cosby show". (I like her very much. I don't get why people keep bashing her.)
4: Charmaine Brown (Karen Malina White), "The Cosby show". (She was funny.)
5: Lisa Wilkes (Nia Long), "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air". (She was just what Will needed.)
6: Geneva & Nicole (Sandra Quarterman & Raven Symoné), "Hangin' with Mr Cooper". (Yes, it was a shame, that Robyn had to go, but they were good replacements. Raven had a far less annoying role in this show than in "The Cosby show" too.)
7: PJ Moore (Nell Carter), "Hanging with Mr Cooper. (She was funny.)
Worst new characters
1: Olivia Kendall (Raven Symoné), "The Cosby show". (She was supposed to be cute, but far too often, they had her act older than what she was, and that was just annoying.)
2: Jean-Luc Rieupeyroux (Bronson Pinchot), "Step by step". (He was okay, I guess, but I can't help comparing him to Cody, who was so much funnier.)
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 06-14-2009, 12:22 AM Yeah.I didn't know either until I saw it from the beginning
Actually, Larry was in the first season. He wasn't really a regular from the beginning, but he was there at least once or twice. He was definitely in the episode No Children, No Pets as a guest star.

Furienna, I actually liked the Jean-Luc character on Step By Step. To me it practically made the show a continuation of Perfect Strangers! I'll never forget him calling JT "Zhet-TIH!"! Why they dropped him I'll never understand. ohno:
Furienna 06-14-2009, 02:21 PM Like I said, my problem with Jean-Luc is that I can't help comparing him to Cody. It's not fair of me to do so, but what can you do ?

Edward216 02-26-2026, 06:11 PM Here's one for me.
Newhart. Worst: in the later seasons when they added Larry, Daryl, and Darryl. I know a lot of people love them but I don't. I always thought they were weird, pointless, and annoying. Yes, weird and quirky characters can be funny but to me Larry, Daryl, and Darryl aren't funny. I really don't like them at all.

Edward216 02-26-2026, 06:17 PM Coy and Vance - Dukes of Hazzard - I keep forgetting about how untalented and ugly these two dim-wits were!
I think that's really harsh and unfair. I thought the actors did all right, but Coy and Vance were just essentially carbon copies of Bo and Duke. It wasn't Christopher Mayer's or Byron Cherry's fault they were put in the middle of a bad situation.
Ed.
Alan Brady's Hair 02-26-2026, 08:38 PM Reverend Jim of Taxi and Antonio of Wings had some symmetries: they both came on as regulars after guest appearances the previous season. Paired with an existing character, they gave each show a foreigner (Latka/Antonio) and an airhead (Jim/Lowell).
Barney Miller: Arthur Dietrich
Taxi: Jim, Simka
Cheers: Frasier, Lilith

I think they got more screen time in later seasons, but they were around from the beginning.
