I've always wondered why did Cassietta (Barbara Montgomery) leave the show. She wasn't even written out they just acted like she never existed. I missed her in that last season. I liked it when her and Amelia would say "Thank you sister, You're welcome sister, No your welcome sister" IMO the last season was the worst

Barbara Mongtomery ended up getting a lead role on another sitcom called Married People (on ABC, I think) for the 1990-91 season. As for why Casietta was written out with no explanation, your guess is as good as mine.

The last thing I saw her in was an episode of Sister, Sister - she played Jackee Harry's mother.

I remember her in "Married People", but yeah, they never mentioned her character on Amen leaving afterwards.

I know it's an old thread, but I was ran across an article about why she left and I thought that I'd share.

"The 'Amen' atmosphere didn't sit well with me," she says of her decision to leave the NBC show. "It was almost like I never really belonged. I asked to be released from my contract before the end of last season--in other words, I quit. Nothing was impulsive or compulsive. It was just time."
Montgomery, who is reluctant to discuss specific grievances about "Amen," says she had trouble with "some producers and writers who are no longer there--not actors, and not the network.
"It was in the writing of the character," she says (she played church trustee Casietta Hetebrink). "Of all the characters, mine was the most directly neglected. I wasn't particularly liked, and I didn't play the game. I'm not a politician, I'm an actor."
When you think about it, the character didn't really do that much on the show, so it's understandable that she left.

Yes, I agree, she was very much neglected, Amelia was more focused on and outgoing, Cassietta was just there.
