The complete TV series Werewolf is finally coming to DVD thanks to Shout! Factory! on September 1st.

This afternoon we got our hands on the DVD cover art for the release, first announced over at TV Shows on DVD.

Special effects for transitions into a 7-foot-tall werewolf were done in this series by none other than Rick Baker, who was the man behind the ground-breaking transformations in An American Werewolf in London and was consulted for the makeup effects seen in The Howling.

In the series, young Eric has been bitten by a werewolf. However, he's not particularly thrilled by this turn of affairs and wishes to escape his curse. To do so, he must find and kill the founder of his particular werewolf clan.

I remember that show on the Fox network. It was pretty cool. The werewolf
who turned Eric was played by none other than Chuck (Rifleman) Connors!

actually Eric was turned by his college buddy, who had been turned by Chuck Conners. In order to escape the curse, Eric had to find and kill the founder of the line, played by Chuck.

This is excellent news. This was one of my favorite shows when it was on.

Music Issues Delay Werewolf TV Series on DVD

Horrible news comes in from TV Shows on DVD who report that the highly anticipated Werewolf TV series has been delayed because of music issues.

"It is with an absolutely heavy heart that I have to announce the official postponement of Werewolf: The Complete Series. There are a small handful of major music hurdles we still have to overcome. Sadly, unlike some situations, this is not a case where we could simply remove/replace the music, as those audio tracks are married to the dialogue tracks. In order to extract the music, we would literally need to extract the scenes completely. And these are some fairly important scenes that, in some cases, run several minutes.

So we're still working on figuring it all out. It's a great set and I hope to see it released shortly. But it doesn't look like it's going to be on the books for '09."

Oh I know. I was REALLY looking forward to this. It was due to come out less than 2 weeks away.

The only good thing, I guess, that comes from this is that if it gets pushed back to sometime next year it will coincide with the release of The Wolfman and the new Special Edition DVD release of Lon Chaney's version. That is if it gets released around the same time.

In a sad turn of events, Shout! Factory's Werewolf box set has been cancelled.

Back in August, word came from the company that the set was being delayed to 2010 due to music right issues. However, it doesn't look like those rights were worked out and they have indeed caused the entire release to be abandoned.

It's a shame that an entire set had to be canceled due to two artists holding out but it looks like those bootlegs of TV broadcasts are going to be the only way you'll be able to relive the series.



According to the webmaster of the Werewolf Yahoo Group:

"The Shout Factory had to cancel the release because of two artists (which will remain unnamed) that would not play ball.

Sony does not have the individual audio tracks, so they were unable to replace the songs, as the audio was mixed together. The two songs were featured over dialogue scenes that could not be cut.

The Shout Factory's only option, even after spending a lot of time and money on it, was to cancel it and give the title back to Sony.

If Sony had the audio tracks, it would have been easy to replace the two songs."

I find it disgusting when artists hold out like this.

I mean this is another way to get their music out there and they want to deny people cause of whatever? :rolleyes:

Couldn't they redo the diologue or something? They did that with the special edition of the Good, the Bad and the Ugly. It wouldn't sound exactly right but it would be better than nothing. I just hate this. This is the only way fans of the show would ever be able to see it. It's not in reruns.

I was REALLY disappointed when I first heard this news. I was looking forward to this coming to DVD all summer (original date of release 9/1/09).

This really was a letdown and not many fans are happy. I hope down the road the issues get resolved and that this finally comes out.

It's not the only way. True fans would have recorded the show when it aired and they could enjoy them that way. Any show I liked over the last 30 years I recorded.

What were the three songs they couldn't get the rights to? Does the release from France have them?
