CBS, the only major broadcast network to grow its audience in all key ratings measures this season, announced today the addition of four new series to strengthen its already top rated primetime lineup for the Fall 2009-2010 season.

The new series include three dramas and one comedy. Chris O'Donnell and LL COOL J star in NCIS: LOS ANGELES, a spinoff from the hit drama NCIS; THE GOOD WIFE stars Emmy® Award winner Julianna Margulies in a legal drama about a steadfast wife and mother who boldly returns to work as a lawyer when her husband is imprisoned for a high profile political scandal; THREE RIVERS, a medical drama that stars Alex O'Loughlin as the head of a renowned transplant surgery team, and ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE stars Golden Globe Award winner Jenna Elfman in an ensemble comedy about a successful, single journalist who accidentally gets pregnant by a much younger man.

The freshmen series will join 18 returning series on the current CBS schedule.

CBS will return the season's #1 drama/scripted program - CSI; #1 comedy - TWO AND A HALF MEN; #1 new series - THE MENTALIST and the #1 news magazine - 60 MINUTES, along with two franchise reality series - SURVIVOR and the six-time Emmy Award winner THE AMAZING RACE.

The other returning series include: THE BIG BANG THEORY, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, CSI: MIAMI, NCIS, THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE; GARY UNMARRIED, CRIMINAL MINDS, CSI: NY, GHOST WHISPERER, NUMB3RS, 48 HOURS MYSTERY and COLD CASE.

Ordered for midseason is a new fast-paced medical drama, MIAMI TRAUMA, from executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer; the new police drama THE BRIDGE; the returning comedy RULES OF ENGAGEMENT; and the new alternative series ARRANGED MARRIAGE and UNDERCOVER BOSS.

On the strength of its scripted series, and the success of its two reality franchises, CBS will win the 2008-2009 television season in viewers, its sixth victory in the past seven years, and in adults 25-54 (projected tie with Fox). CBS is the ONLY network to post ratings gains over the last season in all key measures: +12% in viewers, + 3% in adults 18-49, and +8% in adults 25-54.

This top-rated schedule will serve as the springboard to introduce four new series - all of which have established franchises as a lead-in.



The 2009-2010 schedule:

On Mondays at 8:00 PM, the critically acclaimed ensemble comedy HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER opens the night and serves as a strong lead-in for the new comedy ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE at 8:30 PM. From 9:00-10:00 PM, television's top comedy TWO AND A HALF MEN and the genius comedy THE BIG BANG THEORY form a power comedy hour. CSI: MIAMI, a perennial time period winner, completes the night at 10:00 PM.

On Tuesdays, NCIS kicks off the night at 8:00 PM, providing a seamless lead-in for its spin off NCIS: LOS ANGELES at 9:00 PM, followed by new legal drama THE GOOD WIFE at 10:00 PM.

Wednesday returns intact with the comedy block THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE and GARY UNMARRIED from 8:00-9:00 PM, as well as the crime drama tandem of CRIMINAL MINDS and CSI: NY from 9:00-11:00 PM.

On Thursdays at 8:00 PM, SURVIVOR returns to the time period it has won every year since 2004. And from 9:00-11:00 PM, CBS is pairing television's #1 drama, CSI, with television's #1 new series, THE MENTALIST.

On Friday, CBS plans to add the popular drama series MEDIUM at 9:00 PM, starring Emmy Award winner Patricia Arquette, to its top-rated Friday night lineup, forming a hauntingly compatible two-hour block with GHOST WHISPERER at 8:00 PM. NUMB3RS caps the night at 10:00 PM.

The Saturday night lineup remains intact, anchored by the night's highest-rated show, 48 HOURS MYSTERY.

As always, 60 MINUTES kicks off Sundays at 7:00 PM, followed by the six-time Emmy Award winning reality series THE AMAZING RACE at 8:00 PM, which leads into the new medical drama THREE RIVERS at 9:00 PM. The crime drama COLD CASE anchors at 10:00 PM.



The new DRAMAS:

NCIS: LOS ANGELES is a drama about the high stakes world of undercover surveillance at the Office of Special Projects (OSP), a division of NCIS that is charged with apprehending dangerous and elusive criminals that pose a threat to the nation's security. By assuming false identities and utilizing the most advanced technology, this team of highly trained agents goes deep undercover, putting their lives on the line in the field to bring down their targets. Special Agent "G" Callen (Chris O'Donnell) is a chameleon who transforms himself into whomever he needs to be to infiltrate the criminal underworld. His partner is Special Agent Sam Hanna (LL COOL J), a former U.S. Navy SEAL who has seen action in both Afghanistan and Iraq, and a surveillance expert who uses state of the art monitoring equipment to look out for those in the field and feed them crucial information. Both Callen and Hanna report to Special Agent Lara Macy (Louise Lombard), the OSP team leader responsible for directing the operations and making life-or-death decisions. Assisting the team is Special Agent Kensi Lo (Daniela Ruah), the exceptionally bright daughter of a slain Marine who lives for the adrenalin rush that comes with undercover work, and Operational Psychologist Nate Getz (Peter Cambor), adept at getting into anybody's head, profiling the target and monitoring agents' states of mind before, during and after missions. Armed with the latest in high tech gear and sent regularly into life-threatening situations, this tight-knit team relies on each other to do what is necessary to protect national interests. Shane Brennan ("NCIS") is the executive producer for CBS Television Studios.

THE GOOD WIFE is a drama starring Emmy Award winner Julianna Margulies as a wife and mother who must assume full responsibility for her family and re-enter the workforce after her husband's very public sex and political corruption scandal lands him in jail. Pushing aside the betrayal and crushing public humiliation caused by her husband Peter (Chris Noth), Alicia Florrick (Margulies) starts over by pursuing her original career as a defense attorney. As a junior associate at a prestigious Chicago law firm, she joins her longtime friend, former law school classmate and firm partner Will Gardner (Josh Charles), who is interested to see how Alicia will perform after 13 years out of the courtroom. Alicia is grateful the firm's top litigator, Diane Lockhart (Christine Baranski), offers to mentor her but discovers the offer has conditions and realizes she's going to need to succeed on her own merit. Alicia's main competition among the firm's 20-something new recruits is Cary (Matt Czuchry), a recent Harvard grad who is affable on the surface, but will use any means to ensure that he, not Alicia, secures the one full-time associate position that's available. Fortunately, Alicia finds an ally in Kalinda (Archie Panjabi), the firm's tough in-house investigator. Gaining confidence every day, Alicia transforms herself from embarrassed politician's scorned wife to resilient career woman, especially for the sake of providing a stable home for her children, 14-year-old Zach (Graham Phillips) and 13-year-old Grace (Makenzie Vega). For the first time in years, Alicia trades in her identity as the "good wife" and takes charge of her own destiny. Tony Scott, Ridley Scott, Robert King, Michelle King, Dee Johnson and David Zucker are the executive producers for CBS Television Studios.

THREE RIVERS is a medical drama that goes inside the emotionally complex lives of organ donors, the recipients and the surgeons at the preeminent transplant hospital in the country where every moment counts. However, dealing with donor families in their darkest hour and managing the fears and concerns of apprehensive recipients takes much more than just a sharp scalpel. Leading the elite team is Dr. Andy Yablonski (Alex O'Loughlin), the highly-skilled workaholic lead organ transplant surgeon, whose good-natured personality and sarcastic wit makes him popular with his patients and colleagues. His colleagues include Dr. Miranda Foster (Katherine Moennig), a surgical fellow with a rebellious streak and fiery temper who strives to live up to her deceased father's excellent surgical reputation; Dr. David Lee (Daniel Henney), a womanizing surgical resident who's broken as many hearts as he's replaced; Ryan Abbott (Christopher J. Hanke), the inexperienced new transplant coordinator who arranges the intricately choreographed process of quickly and carefully transporting organs from donor to patient; Dr. Sophia Jordan (Julia Ormond), the head of surgery and a dedicated medical professional; and Pam Acosta (Justina Machado), Andy's no-nonsense operating assistant and best friend. In this high stakes arena, in which every case is a race against the clock, these tenacious surgeons and medical professionals are the last hope for their patients. Carol Barbee, Curtis Hanson and Carol Fenelon are the executive producers for CBS Television Studios.


The new COMEDY:

ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE is a comedy starring Golden Globe Award winner Jenna Elfman as Billie, a single woman who finds herself "accidentally" pregnant after a one-night stand with a much younger guy, and decides to keep the baby... and the guy. A newspaper film critic, Billie is barely surviving a humiliating breakup with her charming boss, James (Grant Show), who's still trying to resume their relationship. Suddenly expecting a child with her "boy toy," Zack (Jon Foster), Billie and Zack make an arrangement: to live together platonically. Billie's party girl best friend Olivia (Ashley Jensen), and Abby (Lennon Parham), her conventional, younger married sister, eagerly look forward to the new addition and offer their own brands of advice and encouragement. But when Zack and his freeloading friends, including Davis (Nicolas Wright), start to turn her place into a frat house, Billie isn't sure if she's living with a boyfriend, a roommate, or if she just has another child to raise. Lloyd Braun, Gail Berman, Gene Stein and Claudia Lonow are the executive producers for CBS Television Studios. Pamela Fryman directed the pilot.



The new MIDSEASON DRAMAS:

THE BRIDGE is a drama about a tough and dedicated police officer who is voted to become the police union's dynamic leader. To serve the public as well as his 8,000 fellow officers, charismatic Frank Leo (Aaron Douglas) battles criminals on the street, corruption in the ranks and his own bosses. On the force is his able partner and confidante Tommy Dunn (Paul Popowich), who rides with Frank across the bridge that spans the divide between the rich and the poor in the area they patrol; Staff Sergeant Bernie Kantor (Frank Cassini), a voice of reason and moral sounding board; Jill (Inga Cadranel), a detective with a lot of attitude who is moving up the ranks; Billy (Theresa Joy), a young female cop who is determined to prove herself to the guys; and Ed Wycoff (Michael Murphy), the shrewd Chief of Police. Abby St. James (Ona Grauer) is a sharp prosecutor who begins working with the police union, and shares a mutual attraction with Frank. In his new position, Frank Leo takes on the politically-motivated department brass... and makes many powerful enemies in the process. Craig Bromell, Adam J. Shully, Laszlo Barna, Alan Di Fiore and Robert Wertheimer are executive producers for E1 Entertainment, 990 Multi Media Entertainment Company and Jonsworth Productions in association with CTV and CBS Television Studios.

MIAMI TRAUMA is about a team of expert surgeons who work at one of the premiere trauma facilities in the country, where only patients with life threatening injuries are treated. Dr. Matthew Proctor (Jeremy Northam) is new to the trauma team, after a tour of duty in a MASH unit during the Gulf war. Dr. Eva Zambrano (Lana Parrilla) is a workaholic surgeon who is more comfortable in her scrubs than she is out in the real world. Dr. Christopher Deleo, "Dr. C.," is a playboy who thrives on the high-stakes of trauma medicine and is, by his own description, a genius redneck. Dr. Serena Warren (Elisabeth Harnois) is fresh out of medical school, and head nurse Tuck Brody (Omar Gooding) keeps the doctors on track and the patients' families updated in this chaotic corner of the medical profession. Together, this team of doctors excels in the "golden hour," the 60 minutes after being critically injured, when a patient's life hangs in the balance. The new MIDSEASON ALTERNATIVE series:

ARRANGED MARRIAGE is a series that brings the tradition of arranged marriages, which is still practiced successfully by many cultures throughout the world, to the U.S., where it is virtually an inconceivable option for most single Americans. Three adults who are anxious to get married, but who have been unsuccessful in their own search for a mate, choose a life-altering path. They rely on their closest family and friends, those who love and know them best, to choose someone for them to marry based on shared goals, values, experiences and the commitment to make it work. The series intimately documents these three arranged marriages, starting with the first meetings of the families and the wedding day; and then follows the couple through the day-to-day joys, challenges, and emotional tumult that results from their arranged union. Emmy Award nominees Jane Lipsitz and Dan Cutforth are executive producers for Magical Elves Inc.

UNDERCOVER BOSS is a new reality series that follows high level corporate executives as they slip anonymously into the lowest level jobs within their companies. Once undercover, they'll get their hands dirty with the rank and file, find out what their employees REALLY think of them and discover how smoothly their companies are REALLY run. In the process, these senior executives learn about themselves, the perception of their company and the spirit of their work force. I'm glad to see that all my favorite CBS shows are returning, but I don't
understand why they're moving Big Bang Theory to a later time slot
(9:30 p.m.) , or why they're moving The Mentalist to a 10:00 p.m.
time slot for that matter.

I am absolutely stunned that The Big Bang Theory is moving to 9:30. CBS is obviously grooming The Big Bang Theory to become the next mega hit sitcom to take over the 9:30 time slot when Two and a Half Men vacates in several years. This is a huge vote of confidence for The Big Bang Theory from CBS.

No repeats on/7pm Saturday's would be good. Making it a Realty night.
With Comedies also at 9pm on Wednesday's. CSI New York can go to Sunday's then and Criminal Minds to Thursday's.

This schedule is pretty unexpected. :eek: I think the biggest surprise for me is moving BBT to 9:30 on Mondays. Two hours of NCIS (http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tv/ncis/EP00681911) I still think is too much on Tuesday(NCIS Los Angeles? Seriously?) . I can't believe the weak comedy block is still there on Wednesday. The Mentalist (http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tv/the-mentalist/EP01058714) move is incredibly interesting but I think it should be at 9 and CSI at 10, since CSI is the weaker show. Friday will be a great night. Sunday looks like it could go either way. The overruns will plague the night. Cold Case (http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tv/cold-case/EP00592727) at 10 is definitely a better move though.

This is a network that loathes moving things that are generally working, and CBS had a power Monday night this season with “The Big Bang Theory” at 8 and “Two and a Half Men” at 9.

But CBS wants to turn “Big Bang” into a mega-hit of “Two and a Half Men” proportions - perhaps to eventually move it to a new night.

As a result, the Eye said it’s shifting the show back behind “Two and a Half Men,” where it got its start, in order to pump its numbers up higher.

“Our first priority was to punch ‘Big Bang’ into the stratosphere a bit,” Kahl said.

The shuffle also puts “How I Met Your Mother” back in the lead-off 8 p.m. slot. The show occupied that same position a few years ago, but Kahl admitted that the net “threw it to the wolves” that early in the show’s life.

Now, he said, “Mother” has developed a stronger and loyal following, enough that it was ready to once again kick off Mondays.

Tassler and Kahl said they also believed “Mother” will also be called upon to help launch new Jenna Elfman comedy “Accidentally on Purpose,” which will air at 8:30.

While they got stronger in the 9pm hour on Mondays, 8pm hour is going to be weak. HIMYM is weak on its own. And don't like how they scheduled Tuesdays. Wednesdays needed the sitcoms to move to Sundays.

Yea I pretty much agree with you. I don't like the 2 hour NCIS schedule. The spinoff should be on Wednesday at 8. I just hope the Mentalist doesn't get hurt by this move. They should have moved HIMYM to 9:30 and kept BBT at 8 so the new Accidentally on Purpose would have a better lead in.

Not only that but the CBS sitcoms are going to air opposite the ABC sitcoms. They could split the audience. Airing sitcoms on Sunday would be better also because football often goes over the regular time. The dramas always get hurt by that.

and I can't stand that name NCIS: Los Angeles. It reminds me so much of the CSI franchise. I'm a big NCIS fan and I just found the pilot very boring and bland. At one time I loved CSI but the spinoffs were real bland IMO. I just couldn't watch them. I'm hoping that once the series premieres it will be better. What makes NCIS so good is the interaction among the characters.

Definitely some unexpected things on this schedule. The most surprising is easily Big Bang Theory moving to 9:30. I like the move - it's a better time for me to watch it. But overall, it's a stupid decision. Both HIMYM and Rules were aired in the slot, and both were down bigtime than what BBT normally does. BBT is a big hit at 8pm, and I don't think CBS should have moved it to 9:30 just yet. Maybe in a season or 2, but not yet. They'll have to rely on Accidentally on Purpose to do well, because I don't think HIMYM can do it.

Having a 2 hour block of NCIS is a bad idea. And why NCIS: Los Angeles? Seems to me like they're trying to make NCIS into the CSI Franchise. They're probably thinking that with the CSI's declining (which they are), they'll want the NCIS' to take over in the future.

And The Mentalist moving to Thursdays - I really don't care. In fact, it's better for me. Plus, it's only competition will be Private Practice. The Mentalist could become a megahit next season in the slot.

Old Christine/Gary Unmarried staying together on Wednesdays is interesting to me. They want to keep the timeslot, and I guess with the same shows, they're hoping both will increase their audiences slightly from this season, which seems realistic to me. I also guess they think they can do better than Hank and The Middle. I'll have to DVR Hank next season then. My guess is Rules of Engagement will take over for Gary in midseason, with Old Christine getting a full season.

And the highlight of the schedule: Medium Fridays at 9pm. Hopefully CBS will be able to breathe new life into the best drama on television!

It just seems like CBS is trying to kill off HIMYM. After the fifth season, it'll have enough episodes to air in daily syndication. Are they planning on ending it after next year 'cause I'd hate that! Their best schedule would be:

It just seems like CBS is trying to kill off HIMYM. After the fifth season, it'll have enough episodes to air in daily syndication. Are they planning on ending it after next year 'cause I'd hate that! Their best schedule would be:

8:00 - The Big Bang Theory
8:30 - Accidently On Purpose
9:00 - Two and a Half Men
9:30 - How I Met Your Mother

Not to mention the fact that NBC is now out of the drama business at 10, so "The Mentalist's" only real competition in the new time slot will be ABC's "Private Practice," which is not exactly a barn burner, ratings-wise.

And, of course, putting "The Mentalist" on after "CSI" might help shore up "CSI," which has suffered some serious ratings decline since losing William Petersen, though CBS suits did not say that.

They did point out that moving "The Mentalist" from the Tuesday 9 p.m. berth opened up the slot for the "NCIS" spinoff, "NCIS: Los Angeles" to, um, follow "NCIS." This seemed to throw some members of the press, who did not think the public would stand for two consecutive hours of "NCIS"-ness, even with two different casts. (The new one is going to star Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J.) Apparently they have not been watching what's going on with reality TV series this season. What's been going on with reality TV series this season is that when you take a one-hour reality show like "The Biggest Loser" and blow it up into a two hour show, its ratings actually improve. The press couldn't find any conspiracy in CBS's decision to bring back Julianna Margulies as a politician's wife who returns to work as a lawyer after her husband's very public sex and political corruption scandal lands him in jail. It's called "The Good Wife" and it's going to air Tuesdays at 10.

But they were deeply suspicious of CBS's decision to put a new medical drama, "Three Rivers" on Sunday at 9. One reporter informed Kahl that there have been a slew of medical dramas on the air over the years, and wondered what made them think this one was so special. A bemused Kahl smirked for just the briefest of seconds, then explained patiently that it stars Alex O'Loughlin -- the vampire from "Moonlight." The reporter had no comeback.

I don't see the problem with Medium. It was probably between that and Flashpoint, and if I were CBS, I easily would have gone with Medium. I think it'll be that binding show CBS has always looked for but never found. Flashpoint seems so out of place on Fridays, and Medium is the connecting force they need for the night.

I love that quote from Ms. Tassler, about Medium being the love child of GW and Numb3rs. That's great :lol: She seems like a fan of the show.

I agree, and I think this will be Cold Case's final season. It's actually a weaker show than Without a Trace which got canceled so it's lucky it didn't(and probably would have if CBS had picked up more shows, they only have 2 new dramas and one is the NCIS spinoff, not counting Medium, and 1 new comedy). I don't foresee Three Rivers doing much with the overruns and because it really doesn't fit with TAR and CC, but we'll see(not to mention being against SNF and DH).

I agree about Wednesdays - I was for sure the slot would be going to NCIS: LA, but seems like CBS is still confident that this comedy block can do well. They should have tried different shows, though. The entire comedy schedule for next season is weird.

I think Men will still be around for quite some time. 6 seasons in, and its season finale did over 16 million. No other sitcom can come close to it.

I just recently started watching the show in syndication(haven't watched on CBS yet), but I'm going to catch up on this past season this summer. It's going to be a bit shocking to see how much Jake has grown. :lol:

I pointed out the stratgy they're using with The Mentalist, and I see they're using it with The Big Bang Theory as well. I said The Big Bang Theory will benefit in it's new timeslot. I'm aware that How I Met Your Mother isn't exactly a top priority over at CBS, which is my point - it will most likely be hurt by The Big Bang Theory's move to 9:30. I think Big Bang should be left at 8:00. It's proven itself there every single week. I think Accidentally on Purpose will do better with Big Bang as it's lead-in, rather than How I Met Your Mother as it's lead-in. How I Met Your Mother might not be as big a deal to CBS as Big Bang, but they do want all their shows to do well, and I think their new sitcom could do just as well as How I Met Your Mother has done this past year, sandwiched in between Big Bang and Two and a Half Men. How I Met Your Mother should do just as well following Two and a Half Men at 9:30. My point is that leaving Big Bang at 8:00 will make the lineup the strongest it could be. The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men are the highest rated sitcoms on the network, which is why I think they should air their lower rated sitcoms directly after them. I understand that CBS is thinking about their future and setting up two blockbuster nights (Mondays and Thursdays) with the Two and a Half Men/Big Bang Theory and CSI/The Mentalist pairings. I have no doubt these two blocks will dominate the competition. I just think it's a little strange. It's like ABC airing Dancing with The Stars, Desperate Housewives, and Grey's Anatomy all on the same night. CSI is not a big force anymore though with huge declines since Grissom left, and NCIS does better than it overall. The Mentalist moved way too early (the show never did above a 4.0 demo) and with a weaker CSI lead-in, that is not an ideal move. If they wanted to move The Mentalist it should have been Thursdays at 9 instead of 10. I would have kept it Tuesdays at 9 for another year or two.

Big Bang moved at the right time and it will continue to grow. HIMYM is weak without it, and you'll see that once again on its own.

I agree with everything that was said here about The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. I think CBS's priority is to "explode" The Mentalist and The Big Bang Theory into big hits. I think they are willing to sacrafice some ratings from HIMYM to do it.

If you notice they mention the new series, the mid season shows and The Mentalist move and The Big Bang Theory move. No mention of How I Met Your Mother's move to 8:00, whatsoever. As I said before, CBS is trying to make the Mentalist and The Big Bang Theory the new face of the network. If HIMYM's ratings have to suffer a little I think they are willing to accept that to make these two shows megahits.

That's not a bad idea, moving Two and a Half Men as it nears its end, to pump out some other show.

I do think, though, that it would have been smarter to move The Mentalist to 9pm Thursdays, and move CSI to 10pm. Mentalist seems like the stronger show now between the 2, and CSI probably would have benefited against less competition.

That is a very good idea. I could see that if CBS can make The Big Bang Theory almost as strong as Two and a Half Men they then could have two nights of 2 hour sitcom blocks where The Big Bang Theory anchors one night at 9:00, while Two and a Half Men anchors the other night at 9:00. This BBT move may be part of a bigger master plan of expanding the comedies for say the 2010-2011 season.

CBS today announced dates for the fall premieres of its new and returning series, which include a pre-season debut for SURVIVOR: SAMOA and the launch of the new Sunday drama series THREE RIVERS in early October. The Network will introduce the majority of its schedule beginning Monday, Sept. 21, the official start of the 2009-2010 season.

SURVIVOR: SAMOA, the 19th installment of the hit reality series, will debut a week prior to the formal start of the season, on Thursday, Sept. 17 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT).

CBS's new season rollout officially begins on Monday, Sept. 21 with HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (8:00-8:30 PM, ET/PT), the premiere of the new comedy ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE (8:30-9:00 PM, ET/PT), the seventh season premiere of television's Number One comedy TWO AND A HALF MEN (9:00-9:30 PM, ET/PT), the third season premiere of THE BIG BANG THEORY in its new time period (9:30-10:00 PM, ET/PT) and the eighth season premiere of CSI: MIAMI (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT).

CBS never promotes the sitcoms when they stick a repeat in a special time period. Also, the younger The Big Bang Theory audience will not be home on a Friday night, two weeks before Christmas. 3-4 million viewers, tops.

By then, Three Rivers should be cancelled. I really dont understand why CBS is keeping this show around, especially during sweeps. And, it's completely killing Cold Case, which had previously still shown signs of life. They'd be smart to at least try Cold Case at 8pm, where it originall aired, with Three Rivers at 9pm (or probably by then a new drama, maybe Flashpoint) and repeats at 10pm

SURVIVOR: HEROES VS. VILLAINS, the 20th edition of the ground breaking series that changed the face of reality television, premieres with a two-hour episode, Thursday, Feb. 11 (8:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT). HEROES VS. VILLAINS will reunite some of the most memorable, heroic and controversial castaways from previous SURVIVOR seasons. The series’ best strategists will face off in their attempt to overcome - or embrace - the label placed upon them as they return for revenge or redemption. SURVIVOR is hosted by Emmy Award-winning host Jeff Probst and produced by SEG, Inc. Mark Burnett is executive producer and David Burris and Leisa Francis are co-executive producers.

The SURVIVOR premiere will be preceded by a one-hour special, SURVIVING SURVIVOR (working title), on Thursday, Feb. 4 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT), revisiting some of the greatest moments in SURVIVOR history and following up on life after SURVIVOR with some of the most memorable castaways. The special, executive produced by Susan Zirinsky for Eye2 Productions, contains fresh interviews with SURVIVOR favorites, and offers a sneak peak at the new HEROES VS. VILLAINS.

CBS announced mid-season moves for its scripted series, including the premiere of the new drama MIAMI MEDICAL and the return of the comedy RULES OF ENGAGEMENT.

MIAMI MEDICAL, about a team of expert surgeons who thrive on the adrenaline rush of working at one of the premiere trauma facilities in the country while drawing upon their wit and irreverence to survive on the edge, debuts Friday, April 2 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT). MIAMI MEDICAL succeeds NUMB3RS, which will have completed its season order.

RULES OF ENGAGEMENT, the comedy about the different phases of male/female relationships, returns for its fourth season on Monday, March 1 (8:30-9:00 PM, ET/PT).

ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE will continue to be broadcast on Mondays at 8:30 PM through February 22 before moving to Wednesdays (8:30-9:00 PM, ET/PT) beginning March 31 where it will be paired with THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE. ACCIDENTALLY ON PURPOSE replaces GARY UNMARRIED, which will have also completed its season order.

CBS's NCIS: LOS ANGELES and THE GOOD WIFE, the season's top two freshman series, have been renewed for the 2010-2011 broadcast season.

NCIS: LOS ANGELES is the number one new program of the season with an average audience of 16.8 million viewers. The show is averaging a 5.3/12 in adults 25-54 and 3.8/10 in adults 18-49. Shane Brennan and R. Scott Gemmill are executive producers of NCIS: LOS ANGELES for CBS Television Studios.

THE GOOD WIFE regularly wins its Tuesday (10:00-11:00 PM) time period in viewers (13.7m), adults 25-54 (4.2/11), adults 18-49 (3.0/8) and key women demographics. Compared to the time period a year ago, THE GOOD WIFE is up +3% in viewers, +5% in adults 25-54 and 8% in adults 18-49. Aside from getting both series Nielsen numbers treated as specials against 'Winter Olympic' coverage and thereby excluded from season averaging, this will also give CBS a pile of detailed data on the what-if scenario of a time-period flip for these two series in the fall of 2010. Who knows, if this time-period testrun works out better than expected, CBS might be tempted to move ahead the slot-flip to spring.

'The Mentalist' has a good chance to be a grower for CBS at 9 pm, and 'CSI' just might be able to forestall the Nielsen decline that has set in for it better at 10pm against 'Private Practice' and 'The Marriage Ref'.

So is there a new MENTALIST after 2 hr Survivor premiere? if so. that means except for 2 weeks of March Madness CSI will be new every week the rest of the seaon

just checked and the first new CSI march 4th is the Rascal Flatts one. Gotta give CBS props they are smart schedulers.

The Mentalist is new on Feb. 11. It is sweeps and no Winter Olympics yet.

Isn't the American Idol finale in the 19th? That's probably why CBS doesn't want to air it then - as you can recall, last season, the finale aired against the Idol finale and mustered a season low.

Perhaps with one less date, do you think CBS may air a 1-hour Old Christine finale on the 12th? Seems like a logical idea to me.

Yes, but those two other shows only had 17 and 18 to start with. Old Christine had her order cut. It definitely had 22 episodes all year. Having its order cut is not a very good sign of network confidence. Numb3rs had its order cut, and now everyone assumes it is canceled. I admit it is only one episode, but the symbolism behind it is not a good omen for the show.

Men or BBT repeats would do no better than an original Old Christine in the slot. It isn't easing leading off Wednesday night, as can be seen by the other 3 networks. But, Old Christine would probably do better in the higher HUT halfhour, as usually does (at least in the demo). It isn't lead-in dependent. It does have its own audience, but it would surely do better with a lead-in. That isn't exactly what I'd call lead-in dependent
The Big Bang Theory averaged a 2.2 demo on Monday at 8pm for a repeat. What is Old Christine doing for new episodes, a 1.9 demo? What is it's competition? Mercy, Human Target, A repeat of Modern Family? That's not exactly tough competiton for the show, thus there is no need for a renewal.

That 2.2 was really deflated by tons of preemptions and late night showings around the country because of NCAA basketball coverage. The Big Bang Theory would have been much higher than a 2.2 if it actually had aired at 8:00 across the country.

Unless Old Christine pulls up its demo over 2.0 in its last episodes of the season it is going to be canceled.

As they've done with The Tonys and The Primetime Emmy's, I do hope CBS will be able to revive this awards show back to good Nielsen numbers (and Sunday 9-11 pm is a good slot for doing so), and also ensure that a well-deserved tribute is paid to 'As the World Turns'.

Would it be too much to hope for Mr. Neil Patrick Harris as host?

Replacement programming for the Thursday, 8:00pm hour beginning June 10 will be announced in the near future.

Seems like Flashpoint will eventually be making its way back onto the schedule. CBS still has that and Canadian import The Bridge they could air this summer.

Personally, I would absolutely love to see CBS try to reboot Saturdays - perhaps in the fall, we could see a lineup of Flashpoint/The Bridge/48 Hours on Saturdays. Although their Friday lineup is in more trouble than ever, this Saturday night lineup would be incredibly cheap to air... so why not give it a try?

If not, I bet we'll see both shows end up airing in the summer. Where, I guess it all depends on CBS' fall schedule, and where they want to repeat certain shows.

I don't think CBS will continue to repeat Old Christine if they let ABC have it. That would be promoting the show for another network. The day ABC picks it up is the day CBS will yank it from the schedule.

ABC isn't getting it. They don't need it. They would much rather have Ghost Whisperer.

While Cold Case is definitely not getting renewed, that Old Christine airing would be 3 weeks after airing its season finale. CBS could easily place a 2.5 Men or BBT repeat in the slot instead of they weren't renewing. So, good news, I'd say.

If you figure these 2 will most likely get a fall timeslot, then CBS will have to keep a third hour open to comedy. Chances are, it'll be Rules of Engagement/Old Christine sharing that last half hour. I wouldn't be surprised to see CBS give both 18 episode orders.

On ABC - you know Pavan, I doubt ABC would have Romantically Challenged as the only multi-cam comedy. I wouldn't be surprised to see ABC pick up Old Christine and pair it with RC. Maybe a Tuesday multi-cam comedy hour?

ABC has a multi cam THAT COUPLE, or its untitled now, that supposedly they are very high on if you believe early reports, so that can work with RC. They dont need Christine. There is no incentive for them to pick that up esp with some of their comedy wed encores beating it, plus they dont own it.

Unless Warner Bros. gives them the show for little cost, in order to get more episodes for syndication. In that case, they would have incentive - they'd easily be making money on it. Plus, it's established. Airing an established comedy with RC, if ABC is looking to renew it, is an advantage. With all the comedies ABC would have, a new show like That Couple (I've never heard of it, to be honest) would just get lost in the shuffle, while viewers have already been watching Old Christine for 5 years.

I agree. Pavan is wrong on this one. If CBS cancels Old Christine ABC is already said to be in negotiations to pick it up. I think it is a good sign that CBS is repeating it on June 2, but I would not worry, because if CBS does not renew Old Christine than I think ABC picks it up.

That may all be true, but for some reason McPherson wants Old Christine. I read some quotes from him several weeks ago saying how much he likes and admires Julia Louis Dreyfus and would love to be in business with her. I think if CBS cancels it, ABC picks it up.

Agreed, but ABC has lusted after Old Christine for some years now. If CBS cancels it I think they will pick it up.

Why would Christine do worse on ABC than it does on CBS? ABC's demo to viewer ratio is MUCH better than CBS'. Old Christine has long been the low demo comedy on CBS, but who says it couldn't perk up a few points on ABC? ABC skews to a younger overall audience, and I could definitely see it airing with DWTS: Results on Tuesdays.

This isn't new business that ABC wants Christine. It's been going on for 3 years now. It's ratings arent the best, but I would still consider it to be a quality comedy. You won't see The Middle nominated for anything, but chances are Julia will grab that Lead Actress Emmy nod again this year.

Still, as I said before, I think CBS will grant Christine with at least 13 episodes. Of course, ABC just may be willing to give it a full season. It'll be interesting to see how it all plays out, but I can't imagine Christine not getting a sixth season.

Agreed - CBS is always a big disappointment in the summer after being so good during the year. If I were them, I would try to get some of the moved around shows in their new timeslot asap to get viewers accustomed to the new schedule. "Big Bang" should go to Thursdays at 8, "Big Brother" can move somewhere else. They can air other sitcoms or more "Big Bang" at 8:30. "CSI: NY," "CSI: Miami," and "Medium" should move to their new timeslots as well. They can plug in new and summer shows with the holes left over

I have a few more CBS summer updates that I edited in, on post #137. Among the changes are Medium airing Fridays at 8pm starting June 4, which means this Friday is the last CBS airing of Ghost Whisperer. This probably all but confirms that move of Ghost Whisperer to ABC next season.

CBS Wednesdays 8pm hour is still TBD. Everything else is pretty much set for summer.

Old Christine has been pulled from summer, so its last airing was May 12. See updated summer schedule on post #137, which includes a special on TV's Greatest Surprises. Sundays at 9pm effective July 11 and Fridays at 9pm effective July 16 are still TBD.
