View Full Version : Do you have a Family that Gossips about other Family Members?
TVFactFan 05-16-2009, 03:27 PM Or is it just my family?-lol For example if you told your mom you were laid off or academically dismissed from college or fired would the news move all through the family? Well My family loves to godsip about the failures of other family members which is why I keep my personal life private so they won't have anything to discuss. I actually rather open up to a SitcomOnline Member than a Family Member-lol
Anyone else have a family like this?
catlover79 05-16-2009, 03:54 PM In my case, no. We're all pretty quiet, private people.
MickeyMac 05-16-2009, 04:21 PM My mother is what I can an unintentional gossip. She really cant help herself, and feels no wrong and telling her relatives about what is going on with somebody else in her family, including her kids. One of the reasons why I tell her so little about my life.

Yes that is the key, reveal no info about your life. As of right now my family still think I'm unemployed and I have no intentions of telling them I found a job.-lol
dawsongirl 05-16-2009, 04:38 PM The family "joke" has always been whoever isn't there at the time (like at a holiday or something) gets talked about. So arrive early!
Faith 05-16-2009, 04:45 PM My mom's entire side of the family.. They all gossip about eachother.

I have a 17 year old cousin who was suspended from McDonald's indefintely and My Mom seemed disappointed that she was allowed to return on May 21st-lol
I guess the story was NO LONGER JUICY

I don't know what it is about them, that makes them all gossip about each other and their kids. Maybe its the fact that they are all in their 30s and 40s and have nothing better do.
sunshinefizzy 05-16-2009, 05:11 PM Both sides of family are notorious for it. My dad's family is Italian and you know how Italians can be, give them a chance for drama and they take it with both hands.
browneyes106 05-16-2009, 05:36 PM My mom's side of the family tends to gossip a lot.
qwerty 05-16-2009, 05:53 PM Growing up if you ever wanted info on a family member on my father's side of the family you would go to my grandmother - on my mother's side of the family you would go to my uncle. I thought all families talked about other members - there were not too many secrets that I knew of.
Waterston_Fan 05-16-2009, 05:53 PM Yeah but I don't know if it's really gossip or not.
My sisters would tell my mom what is going on with them or their kids who are grown and my mom would tell my aunt just to let her know what is going on.
Nothing really to talk about me because I'm still working and I don't really talk about work.
When I was in North Carolina two years ago, I did notice my sister would talk about her family or something that happened to her friend.
My mom told me that she doesn't really talk to her co workers or friends about her family, I would think my aunt is the same. I do talk about my family a bit but it depends on what it is, like if my sister is visiting from NC or I'm gonna visit my dad or something like that.
InspectorExstead 05-16-2009, 10:31 PM not really. we're all pretty close, so there's not much to gossip about. and everyone usually knows what's going on with the others. like waterson fan said, we tell each other what someone is doing, but i don't consider that to be gossip.

What about if someone lost a job do they tell everyone in the famly?
HuntingtonM15 05-16-2009, 10:49 PM Yes, my mom's side of the family is horrible about it. If something happens with someone, it's not long before everyone knows.

The same thing with my mom's side of the family. Especially the older family members. It reminds me of the lyric in "Suds in the Bucket" where Sara sings, "Now all the biddys in the beauty shop gossip goin' non-stop". I know that is a terrible thing to say, but it is often true.
LuLu Rogers 05-17-2009, 12:01 AM I'm known as the "black sheep" to my dad's side of the family. If I've failed at something, you better believe they find out about it and talk about it not only behind my back, but to my face ohno:

That's not nice at all. One day thoough, Lauren, you are going to be a huge success and they'll all be eating crow.

And I'm sure they are all great successes themselves....
O_O

Oh yeah, none of them even went to college. One day when I'm a famous writer or comedic actress, they'll be begging to talk to me. ;)

 And that would be putting it nicely.
beautifuldreamer 05-17-2009, 02:12 AM I wouldn't say my extended family gossips... but I would say that news spreads like wildfire through them. Whenever anything happens in my immediate family, I know it won't be long before the 'ole relatives are in on it.:)

hahaha yes that is like the definition of my family.

You just described me and my mothers side of the family
sunshinefizzy 05-17-2009, 02:51 PM hahaha yes that is like the definition of my family.
Sucks doesn't it??? Too bad none of my relatives got into journalism and worked for the tabloids because they'd be perfect at it. Perhaps I should and then do a tell all book about them. Karma's a bitch, f%^ker's!!! Back to reality, I never would but I think it would be hilarious.
TVLegend 07-13-2021, 09:43 PM Just bumping to say…HELL YES.
I remember one time at one of my cousin’s birthday parties, I was coming out of the house, when it became apparent that one of my mom’s cousins was gossiping about me, and when she noticed I finally caught on she turned her head and pretended as if nothing happened. Then I CAME back and the bitch was whispering something to one of my aunts. I’m sure it was about my job as I had lost it around that time.
Theda Bara 07-13-2021, 10:24 PM I ABSOLUTELY despise gossiping, and the rest of my family feels the same way. We are honest people, we mind our own business, and if we have anything to say to you we say it to your face, not behind your back.
GentlemanJim 07-17-2021, 04:49 PM My mother's side of the family was a HUGE catholic family, with all the trimmings. What they loved to do was to get together at a wake after somebody's funeral, and dredge up ALL the bad behavior of the recently departed... "Oh, you know why his secretary quit so suddenly? well Let me tell you that part you DIDN'T know,..." etc etc
When I was a kid, I thought it was normal, even funny due to some of the post-mortem gossip.
But, as I got older, I realized that one day that was gonna be me they were talking about, unless I gave my severance serious thought.
