Who remembers this sitcom from 1986 on CBS? I saw it when it debuted and I liked this show. It starred Elliott Gould, Dee Wallace Stone as a white couple who adopt other ethnic children. (an asian boy and a black girl) They also have a biological daughter. I was just starting to enjoy it when it was yanked off. Then it returned a few months later under the name Nothing Is easy. Elliott Gould's character was killed off and they brought in a nieghbor. That didn't last long either. CBS wasn't known for comedies in the 80s, but imo, the cancelled sitcoms I saw on there, many of them were better than the few hits they had on at the time.

I see the show was unable to compete with Highway to Heaven and CBS never made an attempt to move the show.

I remember it debuting on Monday at 8:30 after Kate and Allie. It probably would have survived if it stayed there. The competition was Amazing Stories on NBC and MacGyver on ABC.

Have you ever seen this sitcom?

I got an episode of the show because Sherwood Schwartz is involved in it, and it was really boring. Nothing really special about it, nothing stood out. All the jokes were so lame too. I watched the whole thing, but I was thinking when is this going to end.

I remember Scott Grimes on there, and the asian kid played in the 1985 movie, "The Goonies"

I taped them all because I love Dee Wallace. What a hottie. Not a great show and there were unaired episodes. BTW, why are the screen grabs such poor PQ? Looked like a fifth generation dub.

It hurts my eyes just to look at the screen grabs. Why are you worried about what I'm concerned about? You didn't post it. Are you offended because that's what all of the tapes in your collection look like?

That's the only one I have. It's on a DVD with other random shows. I didn't convert it so I don't know where it came from. The other shows on the disc look fine.

bencasey, I always see you bragging about what you have, but I have never seen anyone trade with you. I know you recorded a lot of what you have, but either trade them and distribute them or don't even mention having them. It just sounds like bragging and you do that in a lot of threads.

All your posts are the same, "I have it when I recorded it in 19?? and it was on my third VCR. Nobody else has it but me" It seems like you post sometimes just to brag and not really talk about the show, just you having it.

AJ hooked me up with a couple of things. I have traded with him at least two or three times. I got nothing against him. He may talk about what he has, but he backs it up. And he has a good reputation as a trader. Do we even know if bencasey has anything he says?

I didn't know AJ was a trader and thought he pulled out of the hobby. So when he gave me the CBS eps of One Day at a Time, I was keeping a tight lock on them because I thought that he didn't want me to trade them and then 2 months later I see them on the list of a trade by the name of Ben-lol

Thatt's when I stopped trading

I haven't traded with him since at least two years ago, but he still goes to the sports trading board. I don't know if he trades anymore, but he is still around.

I go through phases with trading. Sometimes I really like doing it and like adding to my collection and then other times it is way more trouble then its worth. If I get something though I list it, there really isn't anything I have I don't want others too. I like to spread it around and make sure there is a backup somewhere if something happens to my disc.

Yeah, I am pretty sick of going myself. At one point I must have been going in there every other week with like 6 packages at a time. Now I go maybe twice a month with one or two total. And it has been a long time since I found something I really was looking for. I do pitty trades every now and then just for the heck of it. I get stuff that sounds cool, but I wouldn't go out of my way looking for it. And I get so sick of people asking me to sell or trade for blanks.

BTW, sorry GARFIELDKOOL for hijacking your thread-lol I am done ranting.

I traded for over 20 years but I don't much anymore. Basically, because I have already have most things that I want that are out there at this point. But I also trade with people who have collections similar to what I have - off air masters and film chain masters. Not 5th generation dubs. The people who get pissed are the ones who's collections started five years ago and everything they have they got from other people. I can't help it is some people have nothing but bad quality. Is it my fault that I started recording in 1978 and not 1998? And that I spent tons of money buying film prints of shows?

The show was actually a revamp of a pilot called Kelly's Kids, which aired as an episode of The Brady Bunch.

It Was a Thing on TV: Episode 416--Together We Stand/Nothing is Easy (https://www.itwasathingontv.com/e/episode-416-together-we-standnothing-is-easy/)

In the 70s, Sherwood Schwartz had an idea to introduce a couple with a multiethnic group of kids. The ahead-of-its-time idea was revisited in the mid 80s, but would anybody watch it? And what happens when nobody watches it? On this episode, we break down the strange case of “Together We Stand”…. Or “Nothing is Easy”.

They shot 13 of "Together We Stand," (https://www.google.com/search?q=%22Together+We+Stand%22+CBS&tbm=bks&tbs=bkt:s&source=newspapers) which is what CBS ordered. Gould (https://www.google.com/search?q=%22Together+We+Stand%22+CBS+Elliott+Gould&tbm=bks&tbs=bkt:s&source=newspapers) was fired after the 12th one. I believe they did the last one as an ersatz pilot to show Kim LeMasters (https://www.google.com/search?q=%22Together+We+Stand%22+CBS+Kim+LeMasters&tbm=bks&tbs=bkt:s&source=newspapers) (who was obsessed with single parent shows) what the new show would look like. Based on that, CBS ordered 6 more episodes, which became "Nothing Is Easy". The final episode of "Together We Stand" (https://glitternight.com/2025/05/05/together-we-stand-1986-1987-forgotten-television/) was rebranded as an episode of "Nothing Is Easy" to give them 7, all of which CBS aired. The 6 episodes that CBS tossed were all from the first version with Gould. Both shows were horrid in completely different ways, but "Nothing Is Easy" (https://www.google.com/search?q=%22Nothing+Is+Easy%22+CBS&tbm=bks&tbs=bkt:s&source=newspapers) was so unbelievably bad in every conceivable manner a show can be that it defied common sense that it was ever approved for air.
