To be quite honest, Pavan, I'm not liking this schedule that much. To begin, I don't see Cold Case staying on Sundays. I think CBS may want to try something new on Sundays this season. We may see Cold Case go to Fridays at 9pm, where it would work very well. I also don't think Flashpoint will be around in the fall - it'll return midseason at the least, but it still isn't entirely filling that gap on Fridays at 9pm. I really think Saturdays would be good. It's stable, it's cheap, and it's older skewing, perfect for Saturdays.

NCIS/The Mentalist fit like a glove out of each other, their ratings are nearly identical, but I think we'll see them broken up. Or, many not - who knows. I also don't think comedies will go to Sundays. I think CBS will stick with the Wednesday comedy hour. And seeing how ROE bombed yesterday, they definitely won't be using that to start off the hour. And, I think Without a Trace will return for another season, not the last season. If CBS keeps it at 10pm, without airing against SVU, it will be able to get 13-14 million easy.

I think CBS will give Old Christine a full season, or at least 18-20 episodes. They really can't afford not to with CBS on their backs. Chances are it'll stay on Wednesdays. Not sure about Rules or Gary, as both are not hits either. I think Eleventh Hour will return, maybe for Sundays?, but I agree that The Unit needs to call it quits.

NCIS could easily be used to launch a new show. The Mentalist could easily be used to fill a gap on another night. I don't want to see them broken up, but I think CBS may do so.

Seeing how badly Harper's Island did, Eleventh Hour's 12 million on Thursdays doesn't look so bad. It's demo wasn't the greatest, but I think it's worth renewing for a second season. The Unit can't even pull over a 2.4 in the demo, and it's the lowest rated drama/procedural on CBS at the moment.

I hope they do keep CM and CSINY together. I wouldn't mind them moving CC to another night...Sunday night sucks, especially during football season.

I agree. They're ratings have been almost identical lately. Look at Tuesday - NCIS had 16.18 mil, TM had 16.22 mil, both had a 3.3 demo. They're perfect for each other.

and they are both fun shows. I hope the NCIS spin-off will be as good. I didn't really enjoy the two part pilot that much. I'm going to give the new show a chance though. Pilots can be tricky. I didn't care for the Jag pilot that spun off NCIS either and it took about a half a year for NCIS to find it's groove.

Friday at 9pm will have to be a new show in the fall. Since CTV only produces 13 episodes a season, it will most likely air during midseason.

I read your proposed CBS fall schedule with great interest. It has merit, but I have a rather different take. This is the lineup that makes sense to me. It is predicated on two objectives: developing a second night of sitcoms, and being powerfully dominant in the third hour opposite Leno. Also, I'd like to see them do the unthinkable and make an effort at scheduling Saturday night. It won't happen, but it'd be nice.

Way too many risks there. CBS doesn't do that. They are so boring. And they are so tight-lipped with their pick-ups. We have pick-up news for NBC, Fox, and ABC, but CBS never says a word. The schedule is the latest released in terms of the time in the morning, too. It is so frustrating.

CBS greenlights three dramas
'NCIS' spinoff, Margulies starrer, 'Rivers' ordered

The first real indication of notoriously tight-lipped CBS' new series plans emerged Saturday, as the Eye gave a greenlight to begin staffing up three dramas.
Pilots given the go-ahead -- a pretty obvious sign that series orders are imminent -- include the "NCIS" spinoff, as well as medical drama "Three Rivers" and the Julianna Margulies starrer "The Good Wife."

All three shows come from sister CBS Television Studio (the newly renamed CBS Paramount Network TV).

"Good Wife" stars Margulies as a woman who must return to work as a lawyer after her husband is sent to jail. Michelle King and Robert King wrote the pilot and exec producer with Ridley Scott, Tony Scott and David Zucker. Pilot was helmed by Charles McDougall.

"Three Rivers" revolves around the world of organ donors; Carol Barbee and Curtis Hanson are exec producers along with Carol Fenelon and Ted Gold.

Daniel Attias directed the pilot, which stars Alex O'Loughlin.

Then there's the new "NCIS" spinoff, starring LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell. The Los Angeles-set show comes from exec producer Shane Brennan. Pilot recently aired as a two-part episode of "NCIS."

Also at the Eye, while "Cold Case" is still looking good for renewal, the jury's still out on "Without a Trace" and "The Unit."

LOL, I know, they are so predictable. There's rarely ever a surprise when the schedule is released.

Some news finally:

New drama series pick-ups: Three Rivers, The Good Wife, NCIS spinoff, U.S. Attorney, Miami Trauma (1 or 2 of these are midseason)
New comedy pick-ups: None as of yet
On the bubble pick-ups: Cold Case, Rules of Engagement (both could be midseason)

The Unit looks to be canned and Without a Trace at best is a midseason replacement. No news on Gary Unmarried and Old Christine yet. No new comedy pick-ups yet, but we can expect 1 or 2. Drama pilot Washington Field looks dead.

I don't see how Cold Case could be picked up over Without a Trace. WAT does better, overall, than Cold Case. And, it's slightly less expensive to produce. And, without SVU, WAT can perk up a bit if it sticks to its old timeslot. Seems logical enough to me.

I feel bad for Rules in a way. 4 seasons, and all of them are 13 episodes or less. Still, I don't think it deserves anymore.

I was gonna say at this rate, it's gonna take forever for RoE to reach enough episodes for syndication! :lol:

Doesn't look too good for Without a Trace. I don't understand the logics in letting this show go. It still does very well, especially when it isn't again SUV, which it wouldn't be next season. Why let a show go that can still pull in 13 million viewers? I feel bad for it if CBS lets it go.

They are the #1 network, afterall. And, most of their dramas do draw some of the highest ratings on television. But still, without SUV competing against i next season, it could get 13-14 million viewers regularly. It's demo is still low, but CBS has always been understanding of the demo, especially when it has viewers to back it up. It just surprises me that they'd rather pick Cold Case instead of WaT.

But, I do agree with Brent. ABC could take the lead Tuesdays at 10pm next season. If that's the case, Castle would benefit most by going in the slot. Airing against CSI: Miami won't help it if it stays on Mondays next fall.

I feel like they need to take some risks, but this is CBS which usually doesn't. I almost swapped the NCIS Spinoff and Survivor, or it also could go to Sunday if they take a risk.

I'm really looking forward to CBS' schedule, more than the other nets especially now with this Medium thing going on.

Pavan, what do you think are the chances of CBS bringing over Medium? Honestly, the show would find a second life if it aired Fridays at 9pm. I'd much rather CBS air it, anyways. From what I'm hearing, the final slot is now between Medium and Flashpoint, the only on-the-bubble show they have left. I really think if this is the case, they'd choose Medium.

According to Variety, CBS is shocked at the cancellation, and they hint in a quote that it will be coming to their network. Let's hope this is true!

And apparently, all 4 comedies have been renewed. I'm guessing the Jenna Elfman comedy may be the only one picked up, and air with Old Christine the entire season. Gary Unmarried and Rules of Engagement will probably share the Monday 9:30 slot, then.

I have a feeling we'll see Rules of Engagement and Gary Unmarried share the 9:30 Monday slot next season. The Jenna Elfman sitcom will probably be paired up with Old Christine all season, but I don't know where.

hopefully Jenna won't befall that CBS curse...having the show placed in a good slot, only to be moved later in the season where it dies......it happened to her before with "Courting Alex"

Will "The Mentalist" mastermind a move to Thursday? Where will "The Good Wife" wind up practicing?

These and other burning skedding questions will be answered first thing Wednesday morning when CBS unveils its 2009-10 primetime lineup. Until then, we'll try to channel some of "Mentalist" Patrick Jane's powers of deduction and take a stab at solving CBS' primetime puzzle.

The hot topic in net circles in the wake of ABC and NBC's sked announcements Tuesday was whether CBS would move this season's hot frosh "Mentalist" to the Thursday 10 p.m. slot behind "CSI."

Such a move would certainly bolster the Eye' Thursday fortunes. It's had no luck in the post-"CSI" berth since the heyday of "Without a Trace" several seasons back. On the other hand, CBS might want to keep "Mentalist" in its Tuesday 9 p.m. berth to use it as a launching pad for a new show.

But there's also speculation that Tuesday will become "NCIS" territory from 8-10 p.m. with the mothership and its still-untitled spinoff starring LL Cool J and Chris O'Donnell.

The thinking is that the Eye can bank on the star power and built-in awareness of the spinoff to slot it at 8 p.m., followed by the original, which can then seed a new drama at 10 p.m. That newbie will more than likely be either "Three Rivers," the organ transplant vehicle starring "Moonlight's" Alex O'Loughlin, or "Good Wife," starring Julianna Margulies as a determined defense attorney.

"Good Wife" is known to be the favorite of the Eye's newborn dramas this year so look for it to get a lot of love, as in an "NCIS" lead-in. CBS' other confirmed drama order, "Miami Trauma," is believed to be in reserve for midseason (and possibly some retooling). The same goes for the reality show greenlighted, "Undercover Boss."

Wednesday seems likely to stay with comedies in the opening hour. "Gary Unmarried," which squeaked by with a sophomore season renewal, may be rerouted from Wednesday 8:30 p.m. to Monday night for a sink-or-swim test to see whether the Jay Mohr starrer has legs with a stronger lead-in.

The returning "New Adventures of Old Christine" and newcomer "Accidentally on Purpose" seem to be a natural pair for the Wednesday 8-9 p.m. hour, as both are femme-centric. At the same time, Eye execs are high on the potential of the Jenna Elfman starrer and might want to give it more support with a Monday berth.

Friday seems to be the natural landing spot for "Medium," the reality-bending drama that the Eye is about to inherit from NBC. It certainly would be a tonal fit with the Eye's 8 p.m. anchor on the night, "Ghost Whisperer." And from the why-mess-with-success department, "Numbers" seems sure to return to the 10 p.m. slot it has anchored for five seasons.

The same sentiment goes for the return of "The Amazing Race" and "Cold Case" to their regular Sunday 8-10 p.m. slots. Eye execs are not known for shuffling shows just for the fun of it, though perhaps "Race" would take a break in the fall and "Undercover Boss" slips in to the slot.

After 37 years, not even an act of God could dislodge "60 Minutes" from the Sunday 7 p.m. berth. (Fun fact: "60 Minutes" aired Tuesdays at 10 p.m. in its first three seasons.)

So that leaves only the Sunday 10 p.m. vacancy, which seems destined to be a "Flashpoint" for the returning Canuck-produced drama to move into the slot formerly occupied by "The Unit."

The Mentalist reminds me a little bit of Shark which I also loved. Shark did okay when it first came on after CSI but it always got an older demo. Then CBS moved it to Sunday and ratings dropped. The strike didn't help either and the show was canceled. The Mentalist is a bigger hit but it's still a risk to move it after one year. NCIS is a great show but if CBS aired the spinoff on Tuesday, it would be overkill. A spinoff should be able to stand on it's own. When NCIS came on , it was put on Tuesday and JAG was on Friday and it proved itself.

I agree on both this and that back-to-back NCIS would be a mistake. It's overkill. I edited my schedule prediction a bit.

I agree with everything here. Thursday is great and will counter what ABC did but Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Sunday all have problems. Wasn't Gary already tried after Men? Too much NCIS on Tuesdays(but if they do do that the spinoff should be at 9, not 8), the comedies are way too weak on Wednesdays, and I don't see Three Rivers doing much on Sundays with the overruns.
