View Full Version : What tv station went downhill?
Tubehead 05-11-2009, 11:47 PM mine are
tv land they air andy gritth show to death. then they put on high shcool reuion or the couger.
Scii chanel. now their showing lots of lost i can't stand that show. they showtoo much of stargate and too much of startrek.
Cartoon network some of the cartoon shouldn't even be on cartoon network. They get away with dirty stuff in kids cartoon now days. what happend to top cat the jetsons or the surfms?
Abc family i mostly been watching my wife and kids.. i don't watchthat station hardly any more. i can't stand glimore girls or what i like about you. i also don't like sarbie teeange witch. i wish they would bring back smallville or boy meets worlds.
browneyes106 05-12-2009, 12:36 AM TV Land has gone downhill since they started airing High School Reunion and they dropped a lot of good shows like Highway to Heaven from their schedule.
The only thing I don't like about ABC Family is that they air Full House too much.
Zoneboy 05-12-2009, 12:42 AM TV Land has gone downhill since they started airing High School Reunion
TV Land was going downhill long-before they started airing High School Reunion, HSR just gave it a bigger shove down the slope.
MickeyMac 05-12-2009, 05:43 PM TVLand went downhill when they abandoned their classic TV format and started all all those 80's show.
peachysquirt21 05-21-2009, 04:07 PM TV Land most definately. I see no problem with 80s shows being on TV Land. When they start putting shows on from the 90s to present & reality shows, that's when I have a problem with the channel.
My other pick would be Cartoon Network. If they got rid of this channel, I would not miss it.
Torgo 05-21-2009, 04:33 PM TV Land- Reality shows, movies, current shows.
Scifi Channel- At least Lost and Stargate fit the channel, but the fact that they have wrestling on there.
I also agree with Cartoon Network, now they will be airing The Office(British version)- why is it still called Cartoon Network? At least Boomerang is still playing classic cartoons.
MTV and VH-1(even though I watch the cheesy celeb reality shows)both networks aren't even remotely like what they were in the 80's.
AMC- Once upon a time this was a channel that aired classic movies, and no commercials. Now it's just a bunch of TV edited movies(rarely a classic)

Yeah it's nice having Boomerang but they are showing cartoons that should not be on that channel. I just hope they dont continue doing that & go down the same path as Cartoon Network.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 05-21-2009, 04:56 PM All of them. And if they haven't yet, they will. I blame it on the fact that eventually they all decide to throw in some cheap, reality crap.
MickeyMac 05-21-2009, 06:21 PM Yeah AMC totally went down too when they abandoned classic movies(we're talking movies before 1970).
I have a fear that Turner Classic Movies is headed in the same direction.
browneyes106 05-22-2009, 03:33 PM I think CMT which is owned my MTV and Viacom has really gone downhill. I think there a lot of country music fans that hate that channel.
dawsongirl 05-22-2009, 05:43 PM TVLand - The minute they resorted to reality TV with absolutely NO "historical" twist *coughCougarcough* And before. Let's be honest with ourselves. :p
SyFy - Haven't watched in a long time, but what a stupid name change!
Cartoon Network - Those are cartoons? FOR KIDS??
VH1 - They need to change their name. Showing videos at 3am does not mean you're a station that plays music videos. Video Hits my ass.
AMC - Let's be like the commercial-ridden version of HBO! GREAT!
Chiller - another one I never really watched, but I hear NBC bought it and turned it into USA2. Wow...that's ridiculous.
peachysquirt21 05-22-2009, 09:32 PM Yeah that new name change for the sci fi channel is so stupid. I don't know what made them change it to something like that.
TV Land - "PRIME" was the death of them.
Sleuth - had good mystery dramas from the 70s/80s....now a USA clone
A&E - erm, ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT. Where are the arts? Not supposed to be a reality channel.
MTV/MTV2/VH1 - Just disasters

Oh, that was it...Sleuth, not Chiller.
browneyes106 05-23-2009, 01:04 AM Yeah that new name change for the sci fi channel is so stupid. I don't know what made them change it to something like that.
I totally agree.
peachysquirt21 05-23-2009, 05:47 AM Oh I totally forgotten about MTV. That channel has been downhill for years. I remember back in the good ol days when you turned that channel on you saw music videos pretty much non stop. I cannot believe how much that channel has changed over the years. Quite frankly that channel should not even be called MTV anymore. They hardly have music videos on there.
Might I also add that they need to end with the Real World series. What there in there season 20 sumthin??? Enough! The first 5 years were good & then it started going downhill. I dont see the point in keeping this show going.
Retro4Life 05-23-2009, 01:13 PM I agree with Sy Fy, AMC, and TV Land. I'd like to add USA to the mix; a once innovative network that had such gems as Night Flight, Commander USA's Groovie Movies, and USA Up All Night. I can't remember the last time I watched that channel.
megamanj2004 05-23-2009, 01:15 PM Any Viacom-owned channel automatically goes down the toliet hands down, especially:
MTV, BET, VH1, Nickelodeon, CMT, TV Land, etc.
Cartoon Network
Retro4Life 05-23-2009, 01:18 PM Yeah I forgot about Cartoon Network. Adult Swim just seems like it's not even trying anymore. But I do think some of the earlier programming is good; stuff like The Brave and the Bold, Ben 10 and Clone Wars, for instance.
megamanj2004 05-26-2009, 03:41 PM And I agree w/ whoever said Slueth.
Slueth was a great channel for showing '70s, '80s, and even a few good '90s dramas too and the 1967 version of Dragnet, too.
But Slueth sadly went down when some idiots decided that "Oh, let's bring all of the crap from USA and dump it on the Slueth and overkill those shows and kill off those older shows. Yeah let's do it!"
The only good thing on there nowadays is MacGyver and even MacGyver often gets the backburner treatment by being shown in the early hours of the mornings.
Chain Gang Member 05-26-2009, 04:14 PM CW50:Everytime you turn around there's a new reality show
James 05-27-2009, 01:14 AM All of them!
bmasters9 05-27-2009, 05:59 AM I'd like to add USA to the mix; a once innovative network that had such gems as Night Flight, Commander USA's Groovie Movies, and USA Up All Night. I can't remember the last time I watched that channel.
Not to mention, USA also had a good mix of game shows as well-- "Scrabble," "Sale," "Pyramid," "Bullseye," "Tic Tac Dough," "PYL," etc. Nowadays, it's all "Becker," "Wings," "L&O: CI," "Burn Notice"-- nothing (at least to me) worth seeing.
megamanj2004 05-28-2009, 12:38 PM Not to mention, USA also had a good mix of game shows as well-- "Scrabble," "Sale," "Pyramid," "Bullseye," "Tic Tac Dough," "PYL," etc. Nowadays, it's all "Becker," "Wings," "L&O: CI," "Burn Notice"-- nothing (at least to me) worth seeing.
USA even had some really good cartoons on during the monrings at some points on and off over the years back then as well.
I remembered seeing "Jem," "The Smurfs," "Scooby Doo," "Charlie Brown and Snoopy Show," and countless others.
Ohio8 05-28-2009, 04:54 PM Nick@Nite and TVLand: those two went to Hell in a jet-powered handbasket.

AMC. Sci-Fi.
Ohio8 05-28-2009, 04:55 PM Oh I totally forgotten about MTV. That channel has been downhill for years. I remember back in the good ol days when you turned that channel on you saw music videos pretty much non stop. I cannot believe how much that channel has changed over the years. Quite frankly that channel should not even be called MTV anymore. They hardly have music videos on there.

MTV and VH1 do suck these day! I want to see music, not some reality show crap, especially those spoiled rich kids on MTV.
peachysquirt21 05-29-2009, 11:50 AM TRU TV aka Court TV is another channel that has gone downhill. I remember years ago trial coverage would go until 4 or 5. Then they started having more & more commercial breaks. Now trial coverage just goes until 2! I use to love watching this channel but nowadays I hardly ever tune in.
Scoobiedoo30 05-29-2009, 11:55 AM I would have to sat WWL-CBS4 the station does air any Syndaction Sitcoms
Will and Grace Fanatic 05-30-2009, 02:35 PM VH1- with all those crazy dating shows they have on how
NBC- just seems like all they make now days is just pretty bad
Ohio8 05-30-2009, 03:25 PM A&E. They were much better before they became a "Crime TV" channel.
torcan 06-02-2009, 06:29 PM Since I'm more of a fan of the "classics" rather than most of today's hits, for me:
USA, Nick at Nite, TVLand and GSN have all gone way downhill.
I got a C-band satellite dish in 1992 to see those channels and others. In the beginning, it was wonderous. By the late '90s, things were already changing (for the worse). Today, most of the channels have gone digital and I haven't even upgraded my receiver yet. Probably will eventually, but there's no rush. I've been working on transferring my VHS tapes to DVDs and that's taking most of my time!
