View Full Version : Lame Album Covers? Good Album?
Janice Johnson 05-04-2009, 07:43 PM This is a thread to discuss album covers that have lame covers, but they are good albums....
Here is my pick for lame album cover/good album.
Dreamboat Annie from Heart. That album cover just has Ann and Nancy facing opposite ways from each other on a white background.   But the album is probably their best album ever, with hits such as Crazy On You, Magic Man, and Dreamboat Annie, and a crowd favorite (never was a hit, but abbout everyone loves this song), White Lightning And Wine. :)
ABlairican Pie 05-05-2009, 09:03 AM Nothing wrong with the Dreamboat Annie cover. The Wilson sisters were hot, and the music was good, and the cover was most likely one of the reasons why they became successful. "Woah! Look at these hot chicks!!" :eyes:  Probably had nothing to do with the title. Other than the fact that they were dreamboats.
It was the 70's. You could get away with that kind of thing.
As for truly lame covers with good songs....hmmmmm.
I dunno. "Slippery When Wet" by Bon Jovi. The one most people are familiar with. The "wet pavement" cover. That was suggested on by the record company when the band's original cover featured a scantily clad woman caked with sweat. "Too sexy", the label thought, and since the PMRC was out demonizing everything in rock and roll in 1986, the music industry felt they had to play it safe with a corny, unimaginative cover. The album became huge, though, and would have gotten bigger if they used the original sexy cover which had a risque joke for a title. ;)

I have an interview where Jon said that was a hefty bag. He also said he didn't like the original cover art because the artist had outlined everything in pink and he wasn't a pink sort of guy.
I think the new U2 (No Line On The Horizon) and Depeche Mode (Sounds of the Universe) covers are boring.

That's right, I remember it WAS a hefty bag!  A slippery, wet hefty bag?? What was that all about?? Who came up with that idea??
Janice Johnson 05-06-2009, 05:42 AM The name is Dreamboat Annie. The singer is named Ann. Did Ann name the song after herself? The names are frightengly close...

The names are frightengly close... :crazy:Ahaaaaaa. Hmmmmmm. A self-referential title. That sounds suspicious. So I'm wondering now if her sister Nancy was thinking, well, how come I'm not in the title?? Where's my cute pun??

The cover art for 'New Jersey' isn't much better. It looks like a denim jacket.

 Very lame. You'd think that for as exciting as Bon Jovi were known to be at the time, they would have put out some killer covers to reflect that.

Actually, if you think about it.... Annie.... Nan... If you rearrange some letters in Annie, and then remove to letters, you will find Nan in it, a short nicknamke for Nancy..... :D So, there is Nancy's pun!:D
