In a presentation to advertisers on Monday, NBC will be announcing its new fall primetime schedule. One suprise is that the network will reportedly be ordering a series of half-hour "Weekend Update" specials to air on Thursday evenings.
The fictional news program "Weekend Update" has been part of "Saturday Night Live" since that show's first episode. Last season NBC produced several election-themed prime time versions of "Update" that were highly rated.
"SNL" star Seth Meyers will also host this primetime version, which will receive an order of at least six and as many as 13 episodes. NBC also hopes to have former "Update" stars Tina Fey (currently starring in "30 Rock") and Amy Poehler ("Parks And Recreation") make appearances on the specials.
