One topic that I have been accused of many times over of beating into the ground is that of "Samantha's Protest"! I have no problem understanding where you guys are coming from! However, the vast majority of posts that I have made on this topic were related to the secondary plot of Katie's bubble being burst at the end. However, the primary plot was Samantha's concern about the destruction of American history. This relates to peoples' concern today about the detereation of our environment. In a way Samantha was quite a bit ahead of her time! About an hour ago, I read a news article about scenntists predictions of the future destruction of World Wonders. This includes the "Great Barrior Reef" in Austrailia" the "Alps" in Swizerland and many other treasures the world over! I give Samantha a lot of credit for pioneering this issue! She felt that over-capitalizm and over-industrailisation were destroying our environment. When this episode was made, we were at the very beginning of the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle generation. I guess you could make a case that all three girls got what they deserved in the end. By getting a date with the handsome boy from the protest, Samantha got what she deserved for putting her health and safety on the line for what she believed in. By being giddy with no place to go, Katie got what she deserved for being egotistical and for putting her hands where they did not belong! However, because Julie was that one that I had a crush on, seeing her receive poetic justice was my favorite part of the episode! By being proven right, she got what she deserved for being the decent young lady that she surely was!

I always preferred Julie over Katie, but my number one is always Samantha.
Many people don't think of GAB as pioneering, but it was in some ways.

If Samantha was your favorite, then you probably also enjoyed seeing her burst Katie's bubble at the end of this episode! The only thing that you probably did not like about the situation is that you were not the guy taking her to a movie the next day!

Let us now look at the issue of being pioneering. The people how say that this show did not fit into this catogory are probably comparing it to more controversial shows like "All in the Family" and "M*A*S*H". However, you have to look at the time period in which the show came out. At this stage in the game, we were already in the generation in which dealing with such issues as racism, sexism and ageism were getting to be the rule rather than the exception. Shows like "Different Strokes" and "Facts of Life" had already broken down those barriors. Also, the show did, in a sense deal with the fact that the character of Katie, through no fault of her own, had rather low intelegence. However this was usually just used for comic relief. We were still a few years away from shows that hit, head-on, such things and mental retardation and leanring disabilities.

I loved the look on Katie's face when Samantha said the words "...he's taking me to a movie"

I agree that the look of shock and disbelief of Katie's face was pretty priceless! When Katie optimistically asked if he would be working at the resaurant, it was clever of Samantha not only to say "yes" but to then add, "he said he never thought he would meet a girl who he wanted to date in jail". This was, she got to make Katie salivate before she pulled the rug out from under her! Good for you Samantha!

It has been close to a week that I have been starting new threads to stimulate some conversation about this fine sereis. Just look at the number of responses in the last five days to see how successful I have been! It has now been almost two hours since I tried the approach of bringing an oldie but goody to the top. That one now has several more views but no new responses. Now let us see what happens when I raise this one!

I am picking this as the response to quote because of a recent development that has taken place on the "Brady Bunch" page. There seems to be a lot of renewed interest in the episode in which Cindy thinks that she is being considered for a part as the new Shirley Temple. This is a season five episode and it is called the "Snooperstar". One thing that I have tried very hard to do is stimulate some conversation about the similarities in situations between what happened in this episode and what happened in "Samantha's Protest". The thing that I see them both having in common is that a girl's bubble got busrt at the end. You stated that you loved the look on Katie's face when she learned that the boy from the protest was taking Samantha to a movie the next day! Well (if you have seen the "Brady Bunch" episode) what did you think of the look on Cindy's face when Miss Fletcher says "This child seems to be under the impression that I am a talent scout looking for a new Shirley Temple"?

Raising this thread to the top of the page is really nothing more than one more attempt to stimulate some more conversation about this fine sereis! This is the third thread that I am responding to on this page this evening. In between times that I have posted here, I have also responded to a thread on the "Golden Girls" page and started a new one on the page of "Friends". Let us see what happens this time around!

This is the second old thread that I am bringing to the top of this page this evening. Because of how many people old and new are coming to this page, I would like to give them a chance to read what us great minds were thinking about once upon a time! The thread that I recently brought to the top called "Katie's Mits/Julie's Teeth" refered to the same episode as the one that I wrote about when I started this thread. However, in the short time since I raised that one, it has been pushed down the page by other threads. Because of this, I feel the urge to state again what I already stated a few days ago. This has to do with the secondary lesson that this episode taught. The primary lesson was clearly about respect for the environment and American History. However, there was another lesson that was more or less used for comic releaf of the situation. This lesson had to do with what happens to giddy young ladies when they put their hands, their breasts and their crotch where it dose not belong!

I know that I really seem to be beating a dead horse by bringing old threads to the top to try to start conversation, but I find myself unable to stop!

At this point, I have spent about half a day trying to stimulate some conversation about some of these fine shows. Nothing so far! My most recent effort was on the "Mad About You" page. Because that one did not bring in any responses, I have decided to see what I can do by bringing this oldie but goodie to the top of this page. Bye!

So far this evening, I have been all over the board working my fingers to the bones trying to stimulate some conversation! Like most evening, I have had virtually no success! Part of my effort was responding to two recent posts on this very page. Other pages in which I started new threads/responded to old threads included The Brady Bunch, Caroline in the City, Facts of Life, Friends, Mad About You and Will and Grace. Some of my new threads have views but none have any responses. It is at this point that I am resorting to bringing this one up to the top of the page!

In the recent past, I tried to stimulate some conversation about this fine show by bringing three old threads that I enjoyed to the top of the page. Because I have not had any success so far, I have decided to add this one to the list.

It has been close to twenty-four hours since I have been on this board in general and this page in particular. In my last sitting, I had brought three oldies to the top of the page in hopes of stimulating some conversation. Just take a look at how much success I have had! Now let us see what happens this time around.

In the recent past, I brought six of my old favorites to the top of this page to see if I could stimulate some conversation about this fine series. Maybe I will get lucky with this seventh attempt!

This is my eighth attempt in less than a week to stimulate some conversation about this fine series! By bringing this thread to the top of the page, I am hoping that some of the newcomers will be interested in telling us what they think of what us great minds wrote about once upon a time!

In between the last time that someone other than me posted a comment on this page and the present time, I have tried nine times to stimulate some conversation about this fine series! Seven of these attempts came in the form of new threads and two of them were by bringing old favorites up to the top of the page. In any event, this post makes attempt number ten! Because of the increase in number of views of each thread, I can tell that there are still fans coming to this site. The only issue is that, I have not been able to think of any topics that anyone else thought was worthy of a reply. Let see what happens the tenth time around!

A short while ago, I posted a thread called the "Hot Dog Stand". Now, one thing that I have no way of knowing is whether you are at all familiar with the "Honeymooners". However, if you have watched it, I would be very interested in the comparison that I made between the two situations.
