Put it this way: Matthew Stafford, who hasn't thrown a pass in the NFL, makes more money than three-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady.

"Drafting early has become a huge economic liability," Polian said this weekend. "(Commissioner Roger Goodell) talked about $600 million committed to players in the first round and $400 million of which is guaranteed. That has tilted the draft dramatically.

"When you're drafting up high, you're risking a tremendous amount of money in a process that's far from exact. If you bat slightly better than .500 in the draft, and that means the entire seven rounds plus collegiate free agency, the likelihood is that you're going to make the playoffs. Those are not odds that I want to bet $400 million on."

Cause Matthew Stafford was a number one pick. Tom Brady is the best in the world but was a what- 7th Round draft pick lol. If their are even that many rounds still in the draft. He was a bust, until the Pats and the world saw his real capabilities & raw talent.

Who cares if he is the #1 pick? A rookie who hasn't down diddly squat should not make more than an MVP like Tom Brady is currently.

Any idea who are some of the highest-paid Eagles?

Just wondering how this contract compares to some others.

I'm surprised the players union allows this sort of thing to happen!

And Tom Brady cheating makes him any better??????
Spygate- Brady and Belichick are pieces of SH*t..I agree stafford has done nothing yet...but let me remind you he's the number one pick for a reason....compared to a michael crabtree, etc.

There should be a rookie salary cap. It's stupid to pay out all this money to players that have never contributed anything to the NFL. Prove yourself on the field.

Yeah, BUT $30 million of that Stafford contract is held for incentives. Aka so if he makes the pro bowl next year or for yeras to come, does well and has a successful season, and even leads his team to the playoffs- some of that $30 million dollars being held goes to him in that incentives deal. I think that's fair. a number one draft pick speaks for itself, I don't see what the big deal is. $41 million is a lot, espec. for an unproven rookie QB, but it's their and nothing can be done about it so shh..

They have a rookie salary cap in the National Hockey League. It seems to work well.

That's why I won't go to pro sports events anymore. Once I began working for a living, I really became sickened at the obscene amount of $$$ these guys get to play a game while the rest of us struggle to eke by. ohno:

Well I hope stafford knows the pressure is going to ON him after that signing.
