View Full Version : Pay Tribute to Your Mother
Janice 04-30-2009, 08:58 PM With Mother's Day approaching, most have their mothers on their minds. What makes your mother special? If she's deceased, still post about her.
My mother was my biggest fan. She loved most everything about me, and we were more best friends than anything. She listened to me, really listened. If I told her I had a headache, she asked me how I was feeling the next day. Her love for me was unconditional. If I weighed 500 pounds or was disfigured in a fire, she wouldn't love me any less. I could always count on her for advice, for anything. When something very good or very bad was happening in my life, she was my go-to person. I miss loving my mother, yet I also miss my mother loving me.
Doodyville10019 04-30-2009, 09:03 PM I'm happy to say that I got my writing talent from my mom. She used to write poems and short stories as a kid and even got to read some of her stories on the radio when she won a local writing contest back in the 1940's.
Family Ties Forever! 05-01-2009, 12:15 AM My mother has a good worth ethic. She's smart and speaks her mind. She's a good cook and knows how to get to different places around town. She's very good with directions.
Although my mother and I don't have the kind of mother/daughter relationship that some do I still care very much about my mother and would be lost if something happened to her. I envy the special relationships some mothers and daughters have.
LuLu Rogers 05-01-2009, 02:09 AM My mother and I are quite a pair. We butt heads constantly, but we wouldn't know what to do without each other. I still live at home, but she calls me at least twice during the day while she's at work just to see what I'm doing. When I need to talk, it's usually her that I go to. She's supported me through my bad health and terrible depression and for that I owe her my life. We don't always get along too well, but that doesn't mean that I don't love her, she's my mom, although we act more like sisters ;) People say we look alike too

sunshinefizzy 05-01-2009, 07:55 AM My mother is my best friend. We laugh together everyday, talk everyday. I don't know what I would do without her. I told her I didn't know what I would do if she died and she just said, "You'll be just fine Chelsea. Besdides, I'll be with you more in heaven than down here." She is totally right. I also thank her for encouraging my spiritual self. Way to be, mom.

Yes, mom is very beautiful, I wish I took after her more  ;)
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 05-01-2009, 08:08 PM I love my mom. She drives me crazy sometimes and she can even be too immature for me, but at the same time we're both complete goofballs who love to bust people's balls (couldn't think of a nicer way to say that lol) and I love that I get that from her. I worry about her a lot, too, sometimes. And she's just a great person with a lot of love in her.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 05-01-2009, 08:10 PM Yes, mom is very beautiful, I wish I took after her more  ;)
You're both gorgeous!
I don't have a pic of my mom on this computer. Maybe I'll post one when I get home in a week or so. She just turned 50 but she could easily pass for 35. She looks great. :)
LuLu Rogers 05-01-2009, 08:11 PM You're both gorgeous!
Aww, thanks Ashlee!! :bighug:

Just beautiful, Lauren. You and your mom look so much alike!
My mom is the best! I love, love, love her... she and I get along probably the best out of the three of us kids. We are similar, but just opposite enough to have a really great relationship. We, like Lauren and her mom, definitely have our disagreements and issues, but even though we live in the same house, we talk on the phone quite often, and I call her every day that I am at college. I just love her to death! :D
LuLu Rogers 05-01-2009, 08:34 PM Thanks Mattie :)
dawsongirl 05-01-2009, 10:48 PM I told her I didn't know what I would do if she died
I once told my mother I was going to kill myself if she and my dad died. I don't think she liked that very much. But I know how I am.

I know how you feel. I can't even handle it when my mother talks about what if... She tells me what I would need to do. What i would need to know, etc. She mentions it from time to time and I end up with tears in my eyes.

I think you and your mother are closer than you realize, Jenny. You go out with her to restaurants, etc., on a regular basis. There are many mothers and daughters who go out to eat for Mother's Day and maybe birthdays and that's it. Some women talk to their mothers once a week, if that. I've known and worked with people like that. I had a co-worker who used to complain that her mother wanted to spend more time with her and called her too much, etc. I used to tell her that she may be sorry someday. We've lost touch, but I heard from a mutual friend that her mother did pass away. I've often wondered if she felt any regret.
I know things have changed of late with you and your mother since she has a boyfriend. It's always like that in the beginning, so things may level off. Your mother does love her family. That's very obvious. I think she's an excellent mother, and you're a wonderful daughter. :)

Thanks. I do hope things will 'cool down' some for the two of them. I know she loves her boyfriend. The way it seems to come across, imo, is that she loves her boyfriend more than anyone else. Oh well.
Ok, I'll shut up now as this is a tribute to mothers thread, lol.
catlover79 05-02-2009, 02:27 AM It would take me all day to describe how special my mom is. I'll have to put more thought into this, share stories, etc. which I will by Mom's Day. :D I love you, Mom!! :bighug:

yes Lauren; the 2 of youDO look alike. And you're both pretty, too!
Also, she sounds like a GREAT woman!!
treky 05-02-2009, 02:57 AM my mother is a great person! She just turned 80, and she never fails to give me advice, or help me out when I ask her.
I'm not very good at putting my thoughts about her into words; so I'll just say what I said at the end of the letter I wrote to her for her birthday 2 weeks ago-I love her, and always will!! :bighug:
My mother is the woman who loved me and cared for me all my life and she
will always hold that special place in my heart.
Hollow 05-02-2009, 05:16 AM i loved my mom. i relied on her for everything. she got me started with learning music really early on and i'm so glad she did. i was always making crafts and drawing pictures for her to show her i loved her. i never did it for anyone else, only her. as a child i frequently cried myself to sleep at the thought that she would die before i would. the pain was unimaginable and i tried to console myself by remembering it would probably be another 40 or 50 years before i'd have to worry about it. you hear all those stories about kids becoming all morbid and miserable because of a profound loss like that. it's hard to be entirely sure, but i'm pretty sure that's what caused it for me. maybe i find so much solace and fascination in talk about death because that's what became of her. but i don't really know why it doesn't seem to effect me in short runs nearly as much as it does in the long. i never get overly emotional about it. last year i had a psychologist say that i've 'denied' the loss, but i don't think so. i think my state of mind just changed. after i heard the words "mama died this morning", i was absolutely barraged by this unexplainable feeling that nothing was real anymore or ever would be again. maybe i've unconsciously adapted to that feeling. i guess it's not just my life that's changed, but the foundation of my mind, and that stops me from comparing things to the way they used to be.
PunkyP0WER 05-02-2009, 10:42 AM my mom died when i was 17 at the age of 49. even though it will be 10 years this august, i think of her every single day. shes the reason i love the holidays so much, especially christmas. she always made xmas so magical, every square inch was adorned with some type of xmas decor. she also gave me an appreciation for literature - reading and writing. she used to write poetry, lovely poetry in the most beautiful cursive. i also inherited her creativity and flair for fashion and decorating. i always am complimented on my clothes and its because i learned from her what taste and class and elegance are. my fondest memories of her are her antiquing up on cape cod and scouting her beloved christmas tree shops.
catlover79 05-02-2009, 11:41 AM I'm so sorry to hear that, Kimberlee. Great pic. Just the fact that you think of her every day is a huge tribute. My grandmother passed 14 years ago this month, and I still think of her all the time - and I still miss her like crazy. :bighug:
Mr. Television 05-02-2009, 11:42 AM My Mom was my best friend. She was someone I could always talk to. My happiest memories are just spending time with her. She loved the Holidays especially Christmas. I loved helping her decorate. Our house was always filled with the Christmas spirit. I miss her Christmas dinners. She didn't like to cook much..lol..but she was a great cook. I used to get her a stuffed animal Christmas Bear every single year. It was our tradition. Needless to say I now have every single one of them. She loved to collect Dolls and Angels. She had hundreds of both in her collection. I miss the way she used to smile whenever she saw me enter the room. She loved her family very much. Her favorite TV show was the Waltons. She would watch the reruns of that show for years. It's hard to think of everything she has done for me. She was just someone who was always there for me. Back when I was in Kindergarten, I was being singled out by my teacher. She was a tyrant. Anyway my Parents had a meeting with her one night and they got into it. From what I hear, my Mom chased my teacher around the table. lol Sometimes it's hard to believe she's gone. I just felt numb for so long because of it. It's still hard to talk about. She always believed in God and Jesus and Heaven and I'm sure she's up there right now looking down.

The resemblance is uncanny!! Your mom kind of looks like Lori Loughlin (Full House).

You mom sounds like she was a very classy and intelligent woman, Kimberlee. The fact that she was able to share so much of herself with you and you've made those things your own, means that your mother will live on through you. And from seeing pics of you, you certainly have a really great sense of style.

As Janice said, I think you and your mother have a better mother/daughter relationship than you realize. I've always thought of your mother and you and your sister as being really close. I know you are hurt over the extra attention she has been giving to her boyfriend, and that is a normal reaction. When people get a new b/f or g/f they tend to go a little overbaord at first and make that person the center of their universe. As Janice said, I think it will cool down after a while. :)

by the way, i'm so glad you found your necklace sweetie, you must be relieved. and may i add its such a pretty necklace too, i can see why you were so upset.

thanks for starting this thread janice.i usually feel very left out on mothers day because i get so envious of people who still have their moms. this was a nice way to include her in the celebration of the day and to keep her memory alive.
Mr. Television 05-02-2009, 12:22 PM my mom and yours sounded very similar. my mom also loved to collect dolls and angels. she had a curio cabinet filled with dolls. i also have a similar kindegarten story: they wanted to keep me back for some reason and called my mom in for a conference to tell her that, lets just say when she got through with them i was allowed to progress to 1st grade.

Thanks Kimberlee. :) I'm sorry about your Mom too. She sounded like a great person. They do sound alike. My Mom had a curio cabinet filled with Dolls and Angels. She also had a glass case that stretched from one side of the room to another and that was filled with Dolls too. She was addicted to QVC and HSN. She was always ordering something from them. lol About your kindegarten story...that's sort of what happened with me. When they registered me for school, the school officials said that I only would be in kindegarten for a couple weeks and then they would transfer me to 1st grade. It never happened. My teacher made it her business to see that I stayed in her class. While all the other kids were taking naps, I was up by her desk taking stupid tests. I remember one of the things she complained about was that I drew a picture of a tree and it had no leaves. My Dad pointed it out that it was the middle of winter and none of the trees had leaves. lol The problem with me was I was just shy and she liked to pick on me.

Like you and Sonny, my Kindergarden teacher did not like me. She was really old school (pardon the pun) and she actually upset alot of parents. It was the 1981-1982 school year and her approach to teaching was like something out of the 40's. The parents tried to get the school district to fire her, but they didn't. I guess I wasn't the only kid she was tough with.
Anyway, at the end of the school year she told my parents that I needed to be held back but they faught her on it so she let me pass to first grade. Still, I ended up failing second grade, so maybe she wasn't totally wrong. I just didn't like her because she would say mean things about my work. I remember her telling me thay my coloring and drawing looked like "a chicken ran across the road"!

lauren, you and your mom could pass for twins, you both look so pretty. you definately inherited her beauty and grace thats for sure. your mom deserves a boatload of praise because the daughter she raised came out just wonderful. strong, and intelligent, and sensible, who wears her heart on her sleeve and is giving of herself.
i'm sorry about your grandfather. i have no grandparents left now, but when they were all still alive, i was always closest to my grandfather and i still mourn him. i know how you feel.
dawsongirl 05-02-2009, 03:11 PM Like you and Sonny, my Kindergarden teacher did not like me.
She's be rolling in her grave if she saw some of what the kids nowadays do. But then she probably never had special ed kids in her room.
catlover79 05-02-2009, 03:14 PM :bighug: My love goes out to you, though I still have my mother, I did lose my grandfather 5 years ago this June and it still kills me. Loss is hard, but remember that they're in heaven and they still love you very much.
Exactly. My grandparents are all gone now, too, but I was always closest to my mom's mom. She passed on May 14, 1995 - which was Mother's Day that year. :( Just 4 days later, Elizabeth Montgomery passed on. Two gorgeous and sweet ladies gone in the same week. :( :rip:
Doodyville10019 05-02-2009, 04:49 PM For my 500th post, I present a picture of my mom at a housewarming party my husband and I threw when we moved into our apartment 6 years ago. I'm the one in the blue shirt with the anime character on it - my husband is in the orange shirt.
Mom is in the center in the purple shirt.

Family Ties Forever! 05-02-2009, 10:40 PM My mother was my biggest fan.
Your mom sounds like she was a great person Janice. :) It sounds like the two of you had a great and wonderful relationship. I wish I could say my relationship with my mother was like that. I'm sure that your mom still loves you even though she's far away now. At least you have the memories. I know that's not the same, but memories are nice to have. :)

Thanks for the kind words, Jenny. You always know the right thing to say. The couple of weeks leading up to Mother's Day are always difficult for me. I miss my mother every day, and she's been gone seven years now. :( On another note, it was also great talking to you on the phone today! I needed to vent, and as always, you were there for me. You're a wonderful friend.

Here is a photo of her from 1947 when she was 21 years old...
My mother is a wonderful woman.
She has always helped me. She's been my sounding board, my council.
And she has always told me no matter what I have done, that she loves me.
My mother has always been there for me. I don't know what I would do without her.
I love you Mom.
qwerty 05-10-2009, 12:13 PM Happy Mother's Day to all those Moms currently with us and those with us in spirit. I miss you Mom.
MickeyMac 05-10-2009, 02:31 PM Lord know me and my mother have had loads of issues that I wont go into now, and there have been times she has driven me out of my mind. That said she is my mother and I love her, and she is a damned good cook, and I know if things go bad through no fault of my own she will help me out.
I love you mom  :loveya:

Anthony, she's beautiful! She looks so happy in that pic (maybe a little like a young Elizabeth Taylor?) I'm sure she appreciates having you around.

Thanks, Liza. I'll tell her that but I don't think she would understand... but her sisters would!
