How nice, hopefully it happens...

The Great White Way is planning a special tribute in memory of Tony Award-winning actress Bea Arthur.

As the Broadway community mourns the loss of the actress, who died on Saturday, the marquees in New York will be dimmed in her memory on Tuesday, April 28th, at exactly 8:00 p.m. for one minute.

Before she became a TV icon, Bea was a Tony Award winner for Best Featured Actress in a Musical in 1966. She most recently returned to the stage in 2002, starring in Bea Arthur on Broadway: Just Between Friends, a collection of stories and songs based on her life and career.

The dimming of the marquees is a very touching tribute to Bea.

I am so glad that Bea is being given so many touching memorials. She obviously touched so many lives with her amazing talent. She will be missed... :(

I honestly think that Bea would appreciate this tribute most of all. Although most of her fame comes from TV, she has admitted that she is truly in love with the stage.

I can't think of anything that would make Bea happier!

Does anyone know if this memorial did take place last week? Have there been any other memorials planned for Ms Arthur?

(I think one obit last week said she did not want a funeral.)

Yes the lights did dim on Broadway for Bea. No she did not want a funeral or a memorial service so I am sure her sons abided by those wishes.
