Delighted to get my DVD set of "Rhoda" yesterday,I had been warned that some episodes were edited.
The pilot on the DVD had the opening scene of Mary seeing Rhoda off at the airport removed, which is a great shame as its very funny, and there's great Rhoda and Mary interaction.
Then "The Shower"(one of my favourite "Rhoda" episodes from season one) has some dialogue gone, when Joe says he has to leave as women at these Showers need to nod and smile, like they're doing right now.
I'm lucky I taped "Rhoda" when it was on "The Family Channel" on cable,in the mid 90s as I have the complete "Rhoda" pilot and the unedited "The Shower" too.

Ooh, you have the complete pilot? I'm so jealous. LOL. Would love to see that sometime. It's a shame about the edits, esp. since "The Shower" is a fave of mine, too.

Does the blame lie with Shout! or with the source of the masters, which would have been Fox (which got it through acquistion of MTM Enterprises)?

I'm surprised that you were able to get a complete copy from the Family Channel because it was said on tv.com that the scene with Mary has never been seen in syndication. So I don't know if you are telling a FIB or if the statement on tv.com is inaccurate-lol

I could be wrong here and probably am, but I don't remember Rhoda ever being on the family channel...I guess it makes sense because it was Fox family Channel after it being CBN, was it right before it became "The Olsen Network"? as ABC Family.........I remember the TV Land airings around that time shorty thereafter........That means Rhoda had national exposure on two cable networks within a few years apart. Actually I'm surprised Rhoda isn't on American Life TV, since they currently have a deal to air all MTM shows, currently airing MTM, Newhart, Bob Newhart, WKRP, Lou Grant.

I discovered Rhoda in Local syndication and could never get into because wouldn't let me watch it-lol

No I'm not telling the truth, remember I'm in the UK,this was shown in the Family Channel broadcasting to the Uk mid 90s.

huh?

I was saying I discovered Rhoda before I had Cable on my local channel around the age of 10 or 11 but could never watch it because I had to shut the TV off. I never saw Rhoda on any Cable channel since 1988, the year I got cable installed. So that;s why the EDITED EPS news was so disappointing in the S.O. Review because I haven't seen the shows in over 20 years and refuse to pay for slice up episodes.

At least it proves my memory correct as I never remembered Rhoda on The Family Channel in any of its many incarnations.

Rhoda would be a nice addition on the network-"we" or "Lifetime" but we both know acquisitions of 70's sitcoms is not a popular thing anymore.

Very True but as mentioned in my above posts, it could be airing on American Life Cable right now as they have a Fox/MTM deal currently and air Mary, WKRP, Lou Grant, Lost In Space, Land Of The Giants, etc. Rhoda would fit perfect on Monday nights...this is their current schedule for over a year..

9PM Mary Tyler Moore
9:30PM Bob Newhart
10:00PM WKRP
10:30PM Newhart

As For the edited set, it was Shout that dropped the ball, in fact in the now seem abandoned "Shout Appreciation Thread", a poster who worked for Shout who I will not name but has now vanished was quoted when speaking of the Rhoda set, that the episodes were unedited and fans would be very pleased, then the story changed......by the way I love Shout and stand by that next to MPI, they are the best company releasing classic forgotten shows, I mean this company released Room 222! I am in the minority and would rather have the show edited, not remastered than never to see it again....but I don't like company reps posting false info, and it happened more than once, he also stated that only some episodes on the Ozzie & Harriet sets were edited, they all were. Basically if you don't have a real knowledged answer, then don't post representing your company!
