View Full Version : Is Craigslist Safe??
Wreckless 04-28-2009, 01:57 AM What do you think of craigslist? Is it safe? Is it reliable? I saw a scare on it last week but it seems like a really good site for work & labor, around where you may live.
I'm thinking about using it to get jobs. Your thoughts on it?
PZelda 04-28-2009, 09:38 AM I live in a stupidly tiny state, population-wise (not size-wise -- that's Rhode Island ;)). There's literally nothing on CL for my area - closest thing CL has for my area are sister cities three hours away from me.
Even if CL had stuff for my area, I sure as hell wouldn't use it.
Hollow 04-28-2009, 12:49 PM i've never done much with it, but it seems about as safe as anything else on the internet. i recall hearing a story about a woman who answered an ad (i think it was for babysitting) and got murdered by the guy who set it up. like with everything else online, just use extreme caution.
MrCleveland 04-28-2009, 01:46 PM I put a few things up for sale on it yesterday.

I have had 5 job interviews from craiglist in the past 6 weeks. Craiglist is the best site on the net for Dating and Finding Jobs
Janice 04-28-2009, 09:04 PM A guy murdered a girl he found on Craigslist around here. That can happen anywhere. It's been dominating the news here in Boston for weeks. Beyond that, we've sold a couple of things with no problem.

I don't like when Craiglist gets that kind of exposure because it decreases my chances of meeting a cute girl off the craiglist dating site-lol

You just keep doing what you always have. You'll find a job and a wife on Craigslist. ;)
Yooch 04-28-2009, 09:53 PM Before we moved, almost two years ago, we sold a car, and a piece of furniture through Craig's list. It was great. Both items were exactly what people wanted and sold within a week. I only have experience on Craig's list as a seller (and the process was simple). However, I haven't bought anything from Craig's list. My experience was, it was a useful, easy-to-use site--but just like with anything, one should be cautious.

Craiglist is so underrated when it comes to both-lol
browneyes106 04-29-2009, 12:12 AM I heard about the Craigslist killer. There was also an incident that happend in which man responded to ad about a blind date and he went to abandoned building and was murdered. I think Craiglist overall is a great thing but there will always be people running scams or doing dangerous things. My friend did some moving jobs through Craigslist. He made about 300 from three jobs. He basically helped people moved stuff out their old houses and apartments. My friend was safe because he asked a lot of questions. I think look through jobs on craigslist and if you bad feeling about something listen to your gut.
Hollow 04-29-2009, 12:21 AM i've tried craigslist a few times but never got into it. the cities listed on there in my state are all hours away and i never see many ads up. the design of the site is really cheaply put together, which is a turnoff to begin with.

Wreckless 04-29-2009, 03:49 AM and solomon....craigslist is not a good way to meet women lol. actually physically meeting women is how you meet them. plus all the ugly chicks that sit by their computers all day are on CL...you're not gona find 100 results with all blonde hair, hot looking models.

Agreed. They've been around for a REALLY long time (apparently since 1995; it was just in the SF Bay area, but started expanding to what we know today, back in 2000). Myself, I've known since CL for about that long - 2000/01 at least. It looks EXACTLY the same now as it did when I found CL nearly a decade ago.

I remember seeing CL back in 2003 and I agree it looks the same today. I wonder why they never the layout, fonts etc of the site.

I meet pretty women off craiglist all the time. Ugly women are not the only kind of women who are dating online. Now you should be old enough to know that with all the dating sites we have now.

Sitcomsnline hasn't changed either in 10 years-lol But I think it's nothing wrong with that and hate when a website has to change all the time
jonc1996 04-29-2009, 03:07 PM NO!!! Just think about the "Craigslist Killer". There may be more of them out there.

Because one 1 guy in 1 city, you are going to judge the website in that way? I guess all the guys who meet people in the street are NORMAL RIGHT? I guess you will stop going outside now?

all there is on craigslist is ugly looking, fat or nasty looking women. you will not find beautiful women on their. Yeah, good looking to YOU lol. Cause you like plus size, fat women. I don't care if I'm shallow, I don't like women who bark like a dark when I throw a t bone in front of them. And craigslist is not for me when it comes to dating lol, sorry.

Are you thinking of becoming serious with any of them, or is it their character flaws that turn you off?

Yeah at some point but I take things slowly
Brieannas21 04-29-2009, 06:52 PM There are always crazies out in the world, to me Craigs List is the same as a newspaper, the only difference is it is free.
When we were moving, we sold a lot of furniture on there and we did not have a problem.
If you find any companies on Craigs list who are looking for employees, you can always Google the company.
dawsongirl 04-29-2009, 08:25 PM Sitcomsnline hasn't changed either in 10 years-lol But I think it's nothing wrong with that and hate when a website has to change all the time
I hate that....tv.com seems to change every damn week. Pisses me off.
dawsongirl 04-29-2009, 08:29 PM I've tried selling stuff on there, but every single time, I'd get interest and then the people backed out with some lame excuse about "family issues." All three of them. Or they just didn't respond back. The people around here are obviously just rude. But my boyfriend has had luck unloading stuff and buying other stuff. Like everyone else said, just use caution.
Don't be like that guy who went to an abandoned building...??? SERIOUSLY??? What an idiot.
Wreckless 04-29-2009, 09:40 PM I hate that....tv.com seems to change every damn week. Pisses me off.
I agree- I used to love TV.com and hate that it changes every other week now.
Even IMDB doesn't change either; and I like that.

Actually women DO need to use caution with Craigslist more than guys do. Not only is there the case in MA, but up here, there's been several guys advertising for a "Personal Executive Assistant". He put the salary high and said he does a lot of travelling. He'd then tell the interviewee that he had to meet them at a coffee shop rather than he office as he was heading to the airport that day. They would meet him at a coffee shop, he'd make like he was interviewing for the job and when they would leave the coffee shop, he'd grab them, push them into his SUV and sexually assault them.
I have responded to ads on it, but if I ever get an interview (which I haven't yet - most of the jobs are "below" my level) then I'll make sure the interview HAS to be done at a proper office.
I've posted jobs on Craigslist before and you do get a lot of responses, but there's a lot of nuts you have to sort through.
TVFactFan 04-30-2009, 05:55 PM I just put an ad craiglist 2 days ago looking for a cute girl to come over and watch a movie and eat some fried seafood with me at my place-lol

They should be knockin! down the door. Some guys have all the luck. Are you paying for the food, or do they bring their own.?

I pay for dinner and parking. If she doesn't drive, I pay for dinner and cabfare.
