View Full Version : What's the obsession?
heather78 01-09-2001, 01:33 AM What is the obsession here with the facts of life? i mean i used to watch it when i was a kid but there are so many better sitcoms around. I'm not trying to be rude or anything but it's like i'm on the facts of life homepage lol. does anyone like any of the new sitcoms?
Because "The Facts of Life" is, and was a great show!
As for new shows, with the exception of the CBS monday night line-up, and ABC's "Spin City", they simply arent good enough. When I want to watch quality television I turn to Nick at Nite and TV Land, when I just want to kill a half an hour I watch new stuff. Simple as that!

Stanley Roper: I'm sorry Jack
Jack Tripper: Oh, thats ok, what did you do?
Roper: Me? Nothing, I just thought I saw something that wasnt normal, because it was normal, but, now I can see it aint normal, so, everything's back to normal again.
Jack: oh, well, I'm glad for you.
I hate very much all the new sitcoms (sorry)
Any new stuff i watch would be the news,a movie or a variety/music program.
I love sitcoms from the 50s thru 80s only.
Cokies 01-10-2001, 11:15 PM Well, I think the 'facts' is a good, great even, show. And yes, I think there are better MADE shows, but it's still a FAVORITE over those emmy winning sitcoms(All in the Family, Seinfeld, MASH, Cheers, etc). The reason it's so popular now is that the comedy and story lines are still relatable, and it's one of those shows, that despite how much you 'hate' it, you can still enjoy an episode or two. The Facts of Life is just fun entertainment, and nothing can beat that.

"It was just like Saturday Night Fever, except it was a Friday."
I like Facts of Life too...
Im not obsessed with it like some but i do enjoy the seris.
the first 5 seasons were the best and funniest!!
heather78 01-11-2001, 12:21 AM hey come on now i never said i hated it, in fact i liked it i just thought most of the topics here are usually about it thats all..
PomeranzFan1 01-11-2001, 01:00 PM I used to watch it all the time with my best friend in high school--she was absolutely *nuts* about that show! http://www.sitcomsonline.com/ubb/smile.gif

Felix: "Responsibility" is my middle name, Mister!
Oscar: And "Pest" is your FIRST name, Mister!

i agree cp! the best sitcoms were defintly from the 50's thru the 80's!
factsoflife 03-04-2001, 06:33 PM well to me the 80's will always rule supreme when it comes to television,... but the nintes have had a few great comides.. ie- cybill, Absolutly faboulous, murphy brown ( although it did start in the eighties.).. and of course there's always Ally McBEal

Oh my God, I know! Everyone here seems to LOVE this show, and I just don't get it! I mean, I'm not trying to be mean either, but OY! I just......just don't get it. :happyface :happyface :happyface
GoldenFamilyTies 03-18-2002, 01:55 AM Well I can't stand Facts of Life and I know some others on here who can't so theres some people who don't like it I guess. I agree with the only liking 50's - 80's sitcoms statement though.
Janice 03-19-2002, 01:32 PM I'll say it. I hate The Facts of Life. It was lame and childish.

I couldn't agree more. I can think of at least 30 sitcoms off the top of my head that are far better than FOL. I will never be able to understand peoples obsession with FOL and I will never be able to understand peoples obsession with Nancy Mckeon. I don't get it and I don't wanna get it.

Hey listen, I'm not looking to get you steamed. You don't understand why people like FOL and I really don't understand why Anybody liked Veronica's Closet. If those are fighting words, oh well, so be it.
Chocoholic 03-21-2002, 04:51 PM I don't care for FOL myself, but I don't waste my time wondering why people like it. Everyone has different tastes. What I may love, someone may despise, and vice versa. I just think there are more things in life to worry about than what someone thinks of a TV show or music group or whatever.
I'll admit, it WOULD be nice if the biggest thing we had to worry about in this world is what other people think our favorite TV shows :) but unfortunately, it isn't.
TALLguyinKY 03-21-2002, 05:00 PM Hey WingsFan, thanks for sayin' that in a nice way, though. :) I always much prefer (for myself and other people) to say somethin' along the lines of, "I don't really care for this..." or "That's not really what I go for," or somethin' like that instead of just out-and-out bashin', "I hate that ***t!" or "That is so stupid and pointless and not worth anything!" :angryfire
I don't know, I guess cause I'm an easy-goin' guy who likes to get along with people. And for some reason, if people say stuff like the latter examples up there, I feel like they're judgin' me personally, my taste in what I like. :smash: A friend of mine who so politely BASHED somethin' I love told me that's not the case---but he just loves to bash in front of me.
*sigh* Ahh, people...

Gemini_89 03-25-2016, 03:19 PM The show was groundbreaking for women on tv of different races, body types, and sexual orientation.
