What phrases have you heard that turned out not to mean what you thought they meant?

I found out that a duck tour isn't a tour you go on to see ducks.

Not so much a phrase, but more a word. I always thought the word "lugubrious" meant something was big, obnoxious, oversized or absurd- when really it means spooky.

The ice-cream flavor "Chunky Monkey" used to creep me out- I thought it contained real monkey in it.:lol:

No, I haven't. It contains walnuts, and I hate nuts like you hate the Cardinals.
