There's a thread like this under the general tv discussions, but I think there's definately plenty of examples of this in the film world. Here are some that I've thought of:

A Streetcar Named Desire Karl Malden has outlived all of his younger costars: Vivien Leigh, Kim Hunter, and Marlon Brando.

Swiss Family Robinson Dorothy McGuire and John Mills both outlived Janet Munroe.

High Society Frank Sinatra and Celeste Holm both outlived the much-younger Grace Kelly.

Excalibur Helen Mirren, Nigel Terry, and Nicol Williamson have outlived Nicholas Clay.

Mary Poppins Julie Andrews, Glynnis Johns, and Dick Van Dyke have all outlived Matthew Garber.

Poltergiest - Craig T. Nelson and Jo Beth Williams have outlived Dominique Dunne and Heather O'Rourke.

Now & Then - Rita Wilson, Demi Moore, Rosie O'Donnell, Melanie Griffith and the rest of the cast have outlived Ashleigh Aston Moore.

Ladybugs-Rodney Dangerfield outlived Jonathan Brandis by a year.

Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead-Christina Applegate, Joanna Cassidy and the cast oulived Christopher Pettiet.

I didn't know about Christopher Pettiet or Ashleigh Aston Moore :(


Just thought of a few more: Beverly D'Angelo and Chevy Chase have both outlived their onscreen daughter, Dana Hill from European Vacation.

My Man Godfrey - William Powell outlived his real-life ex-wife, Carole Lombard by over 40 years. He also outlived his Libeled Lady costar, Jean Harlow.

Vincent Price outlived Gene Tierney, his costar from Laura, Dragonwyck, and Leave Her to Heaven.

The Parent Trap (remake) - Dennis Quaid has outlived Natasha Richardson. So has the mom from the original film, Maureen O'Hara.

The original Tammy, Debbie Reynolds, has outlived her replacement, Sandra Dee.

The Wizard of Oz - Ray Bolger, Margaret Hamilton, Jack Haley, and Billie Burke all outlived Judy Garland.

Eye of the Devil Deborah Kerr, David Niven, Donald Pleasance, and David Hemmings all outlived Sharon Tate.

Indiscreet Cary Grant lived four years longer than Ingrid Bergman.

Tony Curtis has outlived his first wife, Janet Leigh, whom he costarred with in The Vikings and Houdini.

The Omen - Gregory Peck, Billie Whitelaw, and Leo McKern all outlived Lee Remick.

The Crow-Ernie Hudson has outlived Brandon Lee.

Come September - Rock Hudson, Walter Slezack and Gina Lollobrigida all outlived Bobby Darin.

Sunset Blvd - Gloria Swanson actually lived longer than William Holden, who was 19 years her junior.

One example might be Jon Voight, James Van Der Beek and the cast of Varsity Blues possibly outliving Joe Pichler who the played the little brother in the movie. Joe disappeared in 2006 from his hometown in Washington.
There have been theories that Joe committed suicide. But no body has ever been recovered. I do think Joe was murdered.

Here are a couple of cases of significantly older lead actors who nonetheless lived to see their co-stars pass on:

Dial M for Murder: (1954): Ray Milland (1905-1986) outlived Grace Kelly (1929-1982).

I'd forgotten about Milland and Grace Kelly. They were romantically involved during the making of that, but her parents objected because of his age (well, that and the fact that he was still married to another woman).

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - Dorothy McGuire (one of my favorite actresses of all time) outlived her onscreen daughter, Peggy Ann Garner. Garner died of cancer in her early thirties :(

Dorothy McGuire also died eleven days after her onscreen son from A Summer Place, Troy Donohue. Both of their deaths were overshadowed by September 11th. Neither of them were remembered by the Academy Awards during the "In Memorium" section.

Roman Holiday Gregory Peck also outlived Audrey Hepburn by 10 years. She died in 1993 and he died in 2003:( He was a lot older than she was but they made the most incredible couple in that film!:love:

I was just watching the film Bonjour Tristesse and was blown away by Jean Seberg. What a beautiful, talented girl. Then I read up on her and found out that she killed herself in 1979 :( That means both of her older costars, David Niven and Deborah Kerr outlived her.


Also, Gene Kelly outlived his costar from Les Damoiselles de Rochefort, the beautiful Francoise Dorleac. Francoise was the elder sister of Catherine Deneuve. She was killed in a car accident when she was only 25 years old.
