View Full Version : Could the Gang be *That* Unlucky, lol?
Adamantium 04-24-2009, 11:10 AM Casey just could not keep a man or a job. I find that hard to believe. Seriously, she was nice enough (in seasons 7 & 8). You'd think she'd have no problem finding a good man (and keeping him).
The same goes for Antonio. He was a nice guy. He wasn't ugly either. You'd think he could find a good woman. And the episode "Single and Hating It", I find that completely UNBELIEVABLE, that of all those guys there, Antonio is the one guy who couldn't get any woman to even talk to him. There's no way that could happen.
The same applies to Brian in the later years. He seemed to almost be a loser as the show went on. Early on, he was a womanizer who actually *got* women. But later on, it seemed different.
By the way, this was a double post of my other new thread. So I quickly changed it. That's why this topic has very little thought put into it, lol.
Chocoholic 04-27-2009, 03:49 PM I never could understand why Antonio was so unlucky with women. OK, he wasn't rich, but he was sensitive, kind, and funny. I don't he's that bad-looking either. Of course, I do have a thing for guys with curly hair ;) I'd love to find a sweet guy like him. Still looking though...
Antonio was probably the unluckiest charater. Let's see:
He had a hard time finding a date and keeping a girlfriend.
Carlton seemed to take a liking to him.
He had a low-paying, go-nowhere job.
He was once held at gunpoint over a donut.
He was dating the wife of the man who was holding him hostage for eating that donut.
He agreed to wear Fay's dead husband's clothing. (Which doesn't sound so bad until you saw the clothing.)
He had to deal with Dead-End Connolly.
He had to wear that elf costume.
That's all I can think of right now. No wonder he became so bitter after awhile.
Skywalker 04-27-2009, 09:49 PM One thing I noticed while watching the Final Season was Antonio and Roy both had some success with women that year. I thought it was a little odd, especially for Roy who until Season 8 didn't seem to have any kind of luck with the ladies, yet in season 8 he dated that talk show host and he had a girlfriend in the episode "Heartache Tonight". Antonio dated that beautiful woman for a while though she was only seen in the episode "Too Beautiful for You". It was nice to see Antonio with a girlfriend for a little while.
I don't know why Casey couldn't find a man. Ok, she was a bit neurotic and perhaps desperate, but there's no denying she was a beautiful woman with a great pair of legs. ;)
And poor Brian. He couldn't even get anywhere with Roy's niece. He really didn't have too many dates/girlfriends during the final season. I think the writers were trying to make the Brian character more mature but it didn't work, IMO. No way would the old Brian ever turn down Jenny McCarthy even if she didn't sing the correct lyrics to "Up Where We Belong".
Kristen 04-27-2009, 09:56 PM You forgot he dated a woman with an unusually large face. ;) LOL Watching S8 again, I do feel sorry for poor Antonio. He never had much good luck to begin with, but it seems like in the last season, the bottom just dropped out.
Now that I think of it, there was a lot of bad luck going around in S8. Look at the whole "Wingless" storyline. I know Sandpiper never did that well before, but this is the first time Joe's ever really come close to losing the business. And the whole thing with Brian and Casey's martini bar. I'm sure I'm forgetting a whole lot of stuff, since I'm only halfway through watching the DVD's. But I'm sure you guys get where I'm going with this. :)

Helen Chapel 05-08-2009, 06:00 PM I noticed that the characters become more unlucky and pathetic as the series goes on, like making them the more pathetic would make them funnier but it just made them more cartoonish if anything.
Chocoholic 05-09-2009, 03:12 PM I agree. It just got painful to watch after awhile.

Antonio was whimpy, and surely women aren't attracted to that.

I noticed Brian became more Antonio-like after Alex dumped him. He lost his machoism and became kind of whiny. Antonio became even more exaggerated version of himself.
As for Antonio, I agree. Guys like that would need constant resurrance all the time and personally, that would get on my nerves.
