WOMEN WHO KNOW THEIR PLACE (AND THEIR HUSBAND'S)

Barbara Walters, of Television's 20/20, did a story on gender roles in Kabul, Afghanistan several years before the Afghan conflict.

She noted that women customarily walked five paces behind their husbands.

She recently returned to Kabul and observed that women still walk behind their husbands.

From Ms. Walters' vantage point, despite the overthrow of the oppressive Taliban regime, the women walk even further back behind their husbands, and seem appear happy to maintain the old custom.

Ms . Walters approached one of the Afghani women and asked, 'Why do you continue with an old custom that you once tried so desperately to change?'

The woman looked Ms. Walters straight in the eyes, and without hesitation said, 'Land Mines.'

The moral of the story is (no matter what language you speak and where you go): BEHIND EVERY MAN, THERE'S A SMART WOMAN.

I like Barbara Walters, but what's the point of this article or story? For every strong man, their are 2 STRONG women. I confirm and don't disagree with that. We had a topic on this in philosophy class the other night; it was a pretty good discussion, that women are stronger then typified housewives and cooks and cleaners, and men can just hang out, without having to be big and muscular lol.

You mean, there must be a point to the article or story as written? Can't be just something interesting? Shall I list some threads as posted that defy logic, that were written to boost thread counts or that the poster had nothing better to do?

I'm not attacking you (why does everybody think that??)...I just wanted to know more info about it, I didn't understand what's its about, putting in perspective...then I gave my opinion....it's not a bad thing to ask questions, especially if you have interest in discussing the topic....proceed

You assume to much. Didn't say I had interest in discussing the topic. Posted it as is, thinking that maybe someone might find it intersting. When you say I see no purpose in anything said or written ,you are being confortational, snd that can cause problems. You want more information on the topic. How can I supply that? I didn't interview anyone, I just posted what was written.

LOL I think the ladies are really onto something here! And maybe that explains why some are still wearing the full burkas - helps shield them from shrapnel! :lol:

Wow, life in Afghanistan must be really tough.

The Walters story is an old joke, only the names and places were changed.

After the first Gulf War, a similar joke was told, except in that one, after the war was over, the men made the women walk 10 feet in front of them, rather than behind them as they had before... but it was for the same reason...land mines. The "joke" being that men were still in charge there, and now made their women walk in front of them so they (the men) would be protected from the mines.

You can tell it's a phony story right off the bat, because Barbara Walters ain't goin' to no Afghanistan no how.
