"Could be" is all that Sony's head Amy Pascal said in response when asked about if we'll see Spider-Man 4 in 3-D. So how did we get to this point? Forbes.com has posted a very interesting interview with Pascal and fellow studio head Michael Lynton. They discuss most of the business side of Sony Pictures, but near the end they get into the 3-D realm, starting with a question about Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Sony's upcoming fall animated release. From there, they continue into a question about live-action 3-D. Her answer to that question is not only very intriguing, but it leads directly into the Spider-Man 4 question.

First up, Pascal was asked what she thought about using 3-D in live action movies, and this is her answer.

"I think James Cameron's new movie [Avatar] could change the world. I think everyone is in anticipation thinking it's going to be like Star Wars. It's going to change the way you consume entertainment. I don't know that it will ever be the way you see dramas, but I can't say anymore that it won't be."

I hate to get all antsy, but if the head of another competing studio is already saying (eight months out) that Avatar could "change the world," I think that's a good sign that if it does live up to everyone's expectations, it's worthy of being called revolutionary right away. But that's a story for another day. Forbes followed up with the question about Spider-Man 4 and Pascal's response was only "could be." Then Lynton chimed in and added: "People are paying a premium to see movies in 3-D and that's a very big deal. It's never been done before that someone says you have to pay more to see Spider-Man than a romantic comedy."

It's too early to officially say that Spider-Man 4 is going to be in 3-D, especially when they're still working on casting anyway, but this is a good sign that Sony at least wants to pursue it.

I know, tell me about it. What the heck is the fascination with 3D lately?

I never understood what the big deal was. Roger Ebert has even said (more than once) that 3-D sucks. I have to agree.

I didn't even know they were (seriously) making a 4th Spider man....if none of the reminaing cast comes back, which Harry can't cause they killed em off, and it stands as a 3d production, it would be horrible!!!! i am overly satisfied with leaving the series at 3 movies; the 3rd was my favorite anyway but I loved them all. This would suck.

Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire already agreed to come back and Sony has Greenlit a Spiderman 4 and possibly 5.

They found a way to bring back Ben Parker so why not Harry?

Even the Superman people weren't satisfied to quit while they were ahead. I WILL say that Superman IV was EONS better than III. My brother-in-law has the entire Christopher Reeve Superman DVD set (and the Donner cut of Superman II), and I borrowed the set from him so I could watch it over one weekend. What were they thinking??

They only brought back the uncle because it was a flashback....that doesn't really count

Maybe Harry could come back as like a ghost/figment of Peter's imagination to haunt him. That could work...maybe.

I'm well aware of that but regardless of whether or not you think it counts they still brought him back. It's not like the movie industry hasn't brought characters back from the dead before.

yeah that could work....i would like to see them beat the hell out of each other tho like the start of the 3rd one lol....a good fight scene + a good plot in these Spiderman movies is killer and awesome..

They brought the character back for the flashback sequence, How do you figure they didn't? Cliff Robertson didn't star as himself.

I don't consider that bringing him back into the series of movies. I just consider it bringing him back into the flashback scene, showing what REALLY happened with him dying. Was he involved with the main plot in the movie? No. He was only involved in a brief scene, twisting the story of how he died.

No problem, Truthfully even though Cliff Robertson is my favorite actor, I really didn't see much sense in bringing him back after the first movie.

Yeah, those plots can really work in movies/TV if written/directed well. We'll just have to wait and see!!

True, I liked him though. He reminded me of a Howard Cunningham type guy, but a little older. The grandmother is eh, I would of liked to see him come back though in the 3rd movie like we said, besides the flashback.

Hopefully Raimi says to no the 3D idea.
