Celtics Executive Director of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge remains hospitalized at Mass. General this evening after suffering a heart attack this morning.

Ainge, 50, is “recovering nicely,” according to a statemement released by the team and is expected to remain in the hospital for a few days.

“He’s doing better,” said Celtics [team stats] coach Doc Rivers. “It happened this morning, that’s why I looked the way I looked today.”

Rivers was referring to his earlier announcement that Kevin Garnett would not take part in the upcoming first-round playoff series against Chicago.

“One put the other in perspective,” Rivers said of the contrast between Ainges’ hospitalization and Garnett’s injury.

“That scared the hell out of me,” Rivers added of Ainge’s hospitalization. “When people say that someone had a heart attack, it scares the hell out of you. I’m the same age as Danny and it scared me. Let’s hope he’s out soon and can attend a game, but right now we want to leave him alone and let him rest.”
