View Full Version : Top 7, Act II: DISCO NIGHT!!!!!!!

What do you mean, the show is still six nights away? I don't CARRRRRRE!!!!!!

Needless to say, I'm extremely excited about next week's show. I thought Simon was joking when he said it, but then Ryan confirmed it. F'N RIGHT!!!

I don't know what songs they can pick from, but here are my suggestions, just based on my knowledge of disco songs:

(PS: If anyone decides to slow it down, I WILL HATE THEM FOR ETERNITY!!)

1. Kris ~ The Bee Gees' "Tragedy." Really, anything by them as long as he doesn't try to falsetto it.

2. Anoop ~ Marvin Gaye's "Got to Give It Up." Perfect choice for him.

3. Allison ~ Alicia Bridges' "I Love the Nightlife." She can make that work really, really well, IMO.

4. Lil ~ Candi Staton's "Young Hearts Run Free." I can just hear her putting the power in this song. It's a disco classic, but it's also more soulful than most disco songs. I'd love to see her do something by First Choice, but they might be just a little too obscure for Idol.

5. Adam ~ Oh god...I have no clue. I bet he's pissed that he did "Play That Funky Music" two weeks ago. Oh well! If he's adamant about keeping his little "image," then maybe he should do either "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)" or "Do You Wanna Funk," both by drag queen extraordinaire Sylvester.

6. Gokey ~ Another oh god. I'm really coming up with nothing for him at all lol.

7. Matt ~ And another oh god. I'm sure he wished he could have just went home after hearing the theme lol Peter Brown's "Do Ya Wanna Get Funky With Me?" or "Dance with Me," perhaps?

I just hope to god that they don't pick safe songs. Delve into disco's deep songbook! Disco's primary purpose, IMO, is to get you feeling the music and dancing, but there are many songs for vocalists in the disco genre, and they each should find the right one. Maybe I could accept someone slowing a song down if it works...Kris slowing down Chic's "I Want Your Love" would make me love him forever and ever, for example. Lil could work a slowed down version of that, too. I can't wait to see who the mentor is.

DISCO LIVES!!

This will definitely be an interesting week. And you're right - everyone needs to keep it fast and upbeat. Slowing down a disco song is just not right.

I have a feeling this could be a shining week for Lil. She should pick a modern disco song, add her own touch to it, and she could do real well. You know the judges are gonna love Adam this week. I can definitely see Danny and Allison having a tough time, as their voices are not suited for disco at all. The others are up in the air.

For Danny, I could see hime doing "Dance with Me" - it's not entirely disco, but it was from the era. Matt or Kris should do a Bee Gees song - maybe "Staying Alive."

I think they should sing

Lil- A Donna Summer song or I'll survive or Don't leave me this way

Danny- That's the way I like it or some KC and the sunshine band song

Adam- I think it would be funny if he sang You sexy thing or he could do a version of FunkyTown

Allison- Turn the beat around or Venus and I think it would be funny if she sang it's rainin' men

Matt- Shadow Dancin'

Anoop- You Dropped a Bomb on Me

Chris- Everlasting Love

The group song they could do a Grease Medley- You're The One That I Want, Greased Lightning & Summer Nights

I think Lil should stay away from Donna Summer. The judges will nail her for singing a Donna Summer song, just like they did for her singing Bette Midler. Her best way to go would be to sing a contemporary disco song, maybe on that isn't so well known, and her own power vocals to it. She could do Rainin' Men well, though - maybe she should do that.

this is the first time ive been excited for Idol this season....but not for Tuesday, for Wednesday...Davids performing! :woohoo:

and then Jordins performing top 3 week. these are really the only two things i've been looking forward to all season lol

Yeah, Lil should definitely stay away from Donna. I know it's probably hard not to go straight for the disco diva, but she should know by now that the judges don't want her to do that sort of thing (not that I agree with the judges -- but if she wants to stay, she has to listen to those clunkheads). There are many, many songs that I think she could do, but they aren't very well-known outside the disco/70s soul genre. First Choice would be right up her alley, or maybe Jackie Moore's "This Time Baby." Anything that combines disco and soul, really.

Anoop has to do "Got to Give It Up." I can't stress how perfect for him that would be...fits him and his personality really really well.

What a shame - I really do disagree with the judges. For some reason, they hate Lil, and this will definitely be her last week. But I have to say, this was one of my favorite performances of hers we've since in a long time. I thought she was great, totally original, and she gave it her own spin. The vocals were there, and the unfortunate thing for Lil was that it was disco week.

But honestly, the judges just don't like her. American Idol just isn't her show - I really think we'll end up seeing her get a recording contract somewhere, because she can sing.

This whole week is going to be bad, I can tell. it's disco week - what else can you expect?

I was caught off guard for a minute - they didn't show an opening from Lil or anything, they just went right to the performance.

Yeah, but that's what the song was. That was her version of it, and you can't say that wasn't original. She wasn't off key - she was just singing the way she sings.

What attitude? Come one, she's just voicing her opinion, disagreeing with them, which she has a right to do. It's not like she's cussing in their faces week after week-lol

I agree with you guys on all this. Danny was boring, and kind of awkward to watch like you said. Allison sang her heart out, and she's probably my favorite in the competition, but it wasn't her best (I Can't Make You Love Me and Don't Speak were much better).

I can't wait to see Adam  The only question at this point is, how will the judges praise him this week?

He could sing the worst performance he ever could, and the judges would all still love it. Did he actually make Paula cry?-LOL. That's kind of weird, because I don't see what's so special about him, and I don't see why that performance was so good. He has a good voice, but I completely agree - to me and other non-Idol viewers, it just isn't appealing. I'm getting so sick of him. And then he acts like he's so shocked when they all praise him. It's so irritating, because why not just crown him winner now? Why wait it out 6 more weeks?

yeah i had to laugh when Paula said she could "feel his emotions" or whatever..i was like, what? to me, it was extremely over-the-top and contrived, like everything else he does, and i couldn't feel any emotions at all.

but hey, like i said, i'm cool with it, since i'm not supportng anyone in this season, i'm just watching for the LOLs. so...whatever, i guess. good luck to him in the real world.

Anoop - nothing really special and i heard a lot of off notes. i think it's his time to go home, he's one of the weakest left. and lol....Kara could hear this on the radio? does she...listen to the radio? maybe Adult Contemporary radio....but thats about it.

Lil, Anoop, and Matt should worry the most. i think Lil and Anoop should go home (although i didnt see Lil's performance, but from the recap i had to LOL. seriously, she's choosing ALL of the songs the judges are telling her not to do....so yeah, it's her time to go.) but idk if they will...hopefully no shockers tomorrow.

Well, I think we found our second contender for elimination tomorrow. While I didn't think it was as bad as Simon said, it was nowhere as good as the others said, at all. Lots of off notes, off pitch, and very amteurish. Anoop has never impressed me since this season started. He should be going home tomorrow. And considering he's been in the bottom 3 the last what, 3 weeks?, he'll be going home.

I loved Kris and Danny too. Kris has emerged as my favorite. He'll go far, I'm sure.

I wasn't too impressed with Allison or Anoop. They could have done much better.

Lil and Matt were awful. They need to go. Matt shouldn't have been saved last week and Lil should have gone two weeks ago instead of Scott.

Okay so I missed it last night, but I just finished watching the performances online today. Overall:

AWESOME:
1. Kris
2. Adam (I'm starting to like him again)
3. Allison (She's growing on me too)

ALRIGHT:
4. Matt
5. Anoop

MEH:
6. Danny (Weird, weird song choice... and I agree with whoever said earlier that he's not gonna be successful post-idol, but w/e, for the time being he's got a good voice he just has to pick better songs...)

TERRIBLE:
7. Lil (My goodness she butchered that song. This song has been NAILED by so many people on this show. First by Vonzell during Season 4... and then absolutely annihilated by Mandisa in Season 5. This was just awful. She tried to have a shining moment to redeem her suckiness the last few weeks but just didn't work out. Please send this girl home tonight.)

Mandisa annihilated it? You mean that as a good thing or a bad thing lol

I was so disappointed last night. The song choices were BORING. All good songs, mind you, but too much Donna. I love Donna, but Dim All the Lights was the only one of her songs done last night that I absolutely love (On the Radio and Last Dance are two others). Kris did a good job with She Works Hard for the Money, but listening to 16-year-old Allison yearning for some Hot Stuff was gross.

Gokey sucks. Whyyyyy did he scream like a fool at the beginning of his song? And Lil...poor, poor Lil. The judges are laughing at you now. But honestly, I think it sucks that Lil and Gokey pretty much did the exact same thing, but they set Lil fire while treating Gokey like a musical genius. He's laaaaame!

I actually liked Adam last night, but he really shouldn't have done that arrangement. It's a naturally ballad-ish song, so it wasn't horrible, but when everyone else had a somewhat uptempo energy going on (even Kris's performance was more stripped down than slowed-down), it just didn't fit. I guess he was trying to create a "moment" or something, but ANK! WRONG ANSWER!

Anoop did pretty good. Too bad he couldn't get to the line where he says "Please, turn my brown body white," but whatevs. Matt performed? Oh, yeah, he did. Exactly.

Danny is nothing special. He does the exact same thing every single week - it's the same performance, just different songs, and its getting boring. I definitely agree with you.

I was kind of shocked to hear Simon say he hated Anoop's song, because while it was by no means one of his best (he has had a few in latest weeks), I didn't think it was as bad as he said it was. Unfortunately, seems like America always listens to Simon, so my picks are Anoop and Lil to go home tonight. Although, if we see any surprises this week, it may come from Lil.

Yeah, I agree with that. Doing it so early in the show, too, was just mean.

She really did sing great tonight, though. That was the Lil Rounds we saw in the top 36 round. And there's no doubt she has a huge voice, and a great range. And who knows - she could really end up making it big, just like Jennifer Hudson. She was different from the other contestants, and I'll miss her.

she may have been different from other contestants this season but to me she was just a weaker Jennifer Hudson/LaToya/Mandisa type....she had potential but she chose to take a generic, boring route instead of being original and current like she was in the semis.

its a little sad because she had potential but she's been struggling for weeks now...it was her time to go home.

Oooo okay, I forgot whether or not you liked Mandisa lol

I was sad for both Lil and 'Noop, but I guess that's just the way the cookie crumbles. Lil was eaten up by the competition (not the other contestants, just the competition itself), and I think maybe she should sing at weddings, ceremonies, etc (and I don't mean that as a bad thing like Simon usually does...I actually don't see anything wrong with singing at weddings, so yeah...).

Anoop was good most of the time, he just fell to the massive fanbases of the other contestants. He used to have the college vote, but I guess not anymore, or maybe it just wasn't enough anymore.

The performances...oh boy. Well, first of all, since when is Band of Gold disco? Definitely from 1970, when disco was still in its earliest of stages. Freda Payne looked a hot mess, and her face refuses to let her sing anymore...unfortunate. Thelma Houston was only a little better, and KC looks so old! I just saw him in an infomercial a few weeks ago and he looked pretty good! For the first time in his life, he looked tired. All three performances were less than good...very much so. Ugh. Too bad they couldn't get Donna or if they wanted a one-hit wonder, Carol Douglas (Doctor's Orders!) or Maxine Nightingale (Right Back Where We Started From!) would have been good.

Archuleta...a year later and I still don't get his appeal at all. He's a Disney star who went the AI route instead.

I want this to be the elimination order for the last five: GOKEY, Matt, Adam, Allison, and Kris wins!! But it'll most likely be like this: Matt, Allison, Kris, Adam, and Gokey wins!! Pauler blatantly told both Adam and Gokey that they were going to be in the final 2. WTF, Pauler?
