JamesG 04-10-2009, 09:11 PM Reid Set For Another Slice Of American Pie
10 April 2009 6:25 PM, PDT
Tara Reid is going back to school to reprise her American Pie character Vicki Lathum in the sex comedy franchise's seventh movie Book Of Love.
Reid, who is on the comeback trail after spending the beginning of the year in rehab, played Lathum in the first two Pie films.
Original American Pie star Eugene Levy will also be part of the new film, alongside crooner Wayne Newton and U.S. TV favourite Sherman Helmsley from The Jeffersons, according to MovieHole.net.

Aren't these later American Pie's direct-to-DVD?
I stopped after American Wedding.

Yep. I haven't seen one since American Wedding, either, and I don't plan on it.
Do the American Pie folks have some incriminating photos of Eugene Levy?
I just can't understand why he continues to associate himself with that franchise.

 I'd like to know the answer to that one, too.
catlover79 04-10-2009, 10:58 PM SHERMAN HEMSLEY? Wayne Newton??

What are you talking about?
It was these movies that put him on the map.
There's nothing wrong with going back to the series of movies that made you famous.
As for Tara, she was a big contributor in the first two movies- again, this put her on the map.
It's like a sports player returning to his original team after so many years.
comedyfreak 04-11-2009, 01:00 AM I'd like to see the rest of the original cast since along with Reid. I watched Band Camp and the other one, which were cheap ripoffs.

He's not "going back" to the movies, he hasn't left them. It seems like he's in every one of these completely awful straight to DVD movies that are using the American Pie name to try and get people to watch. It's pathetic. As for Tara Reid, I have to disagree that she was a big contributor. She really had little to do with why the franchise was so popular, and she was barely in the second one. I'm sure her horrible acting will really add to this new movie.

Actually what put Eugene Levy on the map was SCTV.

Not to mention the Christopher Guest movies.

I absolutely love "Waiting For Guffman". It's one of my all time favorites.

 What the heck are you talking about?
Tara Reid wasn't a main contributor to the franchise. The main people behind Pie's success are Jason Biggs, Sean William Scott, Alyson Hannigan, and of course Eugene Levy.
Tara Reid was a minor character and she had little screen-time in the second one.
The American Pie franchise that goes on today is no doubt a mere shadow of its former self. One has to question why none of the franchise's main stars, except for Levy, still continue to be a part of the direct-to-DVD installments.

JamesG 04-11-2009, 05:05 PM ^ For me, I'd put her in with Mena Suvari, Natasha Lyonne, and Tara Reid
They were all out by the time the third one came around, the last of the series main installments.

I agree. She wasn't that important of a cast member.

The third one held up pretty well without the four of them in it, right? My point.

Exactly. Without any one of them it probably would have been quite weak, but they did well with it. I just wish that would have been the absolute end of the series.

I asked something similar when I heard Jason Statham was doing a Boll film.
Jude The Obscure 04-12-2009, 12:58 AM Simply a marketing ploy--Slap the name "american pie" on a cheap straight to DVD release sex comedy and cha ching! I like the others stopped after the Wedding movie.

Yeah, did ANYONE (other than comedyfreak) see any of the other American Pie's?
I had to look them up because I don't know what they are called but here are the later films:
American Pie Presents: Band Camp (2005)
American Pie Presents: The Naked Mile (2006)
American Pie Presents: Beta House (2007)
Jude The Obscure 04-12-2009, 01:09 AM ^I remember that they all rented very well (when I worked at Blockhead).

Were they satisfied with the results?
Actually, a lot of bad movies or movies that perform poorly in the box office usually have high video rentals.

Exactly.
catlover79 04-12-2009, 02:49 AM Exactly.
Plus, he's in almost every Steve Martin flick these days - the Father of the Bride movies, Cheaper by the Dozen, etc.

I guess so.....teen males usually are satisfied with seeing boobs and hearing dirty jokes....LOL. But actually i had quite a few who told me these films really forgot the appeal of the big screen flicks.....the interaction of relationships that is pivotal to making a movie work. anyone can show some t&A and say naughty words, but showing characters that actually have something more in common and caring, well that puts it over the average banal Porkys/Pie ripoff.

And going back a few years, I loved him in Splash with Tom Hanks. That was one of his best roles.

I think Eugene is content being an employable character actor, so he works whenever his friends or other situations call for him.

I saw the Band Camp one... It took a lot of alcohol to make that one funny, so I gave up on the other ones.

I especially loved his bit as a wedding singer in the first FOTB - "No wonder Annie's heart sings, Bryan's love has given her wings!" :rofl"
