View Full Version : Does anyone else here get nervous at nighttime?

I've been this way ever since I was a kid, and I just always have a nervous stomache ache at night. I think alot of it has to do with the fact that I have severe sleeping problems, and am up all night most nights. I usually get about 4 hours of sleep a day, and that's on a good day. I don't know, there's just something about having the house all quiet, and the feeling of loneliness that sometimes drives me crazy. I guess I just hate the feeling of being all alone, that's the biggest problem. Can anyone else relate with this, or am I alone here??

brad you're never alone you can always jump on here. but i get what you mean, i feel that way too, especially if i have something on my mind and i'm overtired, my thoughts and worries seem to become magnified by the darkness and silence of the night.

I know what you mean Brad. It does happen to me sometimes. Sometimes I just get a scary feeling and I don't know why.

Yeah, I usually come to S.O. when I can't sleep, but usually things are dead around her at those hours, so there's usually nobody here to even talk to. I know the Europeon users are sometimes on in the late night hours since it's daytime there when it's nightime here, but unfortunately there aren't too many members from England, and other Countries who visit these boards. I always enjoy the nights when the night owls are active. Doesn't happen often, but it does happen from time to time. Those nights are usually far less lonely.

I know what you mean about your worries and thoughts being magnifide by the darkness, I'm the exact same way. Just know that if you're ever up late at night and you have worries on your mind, you always have someone to talk to, and that's me. :)

We used to have latenight chats over in Random a few years ago and that always made it less lonely around here. Their were quite a few members up late back then too. Unfortunately their aren't as many up that late anymore.

I'm sorry you get those feelings Sonny!! :( I get that same feeling, and it's really scary at times. While I feel bad knowing that so many others feel this way, it is kind of comforting to know that we're not alone, and that we can relate. I thought I was alone in feeling this way at nighttime, so it's comforting to know that I'm not.

I find I feel that way more in the fall and winter when it's dark by 5 PM. I sometimes wonder if I have Seasonal Affective Disorder or something. I love it in the spring and summer when we have more daylight hours.

And you're never truly alone in this world :)

I used to be like that but not lately. I'm more like Brad now since I've been getting a lot of bad insomnia. I think I didn't mind the night when I didn't have worries like I do now. I know exactly what you all mean about the silence - it's like it amplifies your problems.

Also, I used to have my pets to keep my company in the wee hours but not having them now really stresses me out when I'm by myself.

I'm sorry you have such rough nights too Cathie. Believe me, I know how bad insomnia can be. Before today, I had gotten 3 hours of sleep in four nights. That really can drain the life out of you. I'm so sorry you have so many worries. I wish there was a way I could just take them all away from you. :( You are one of my best friends though, and just know that if you're ever having one of your rough nights, you can always talk to me. I'm just a chat away. My chat I.D. for yahoo is Ru4Br. You can start up a chat with me anytime!! :)

I'm sorry to hear about you not having your pets anymore. Have you considered getting new pets to keep you company?

I've had problems with insomnia for as long as I can remember. But then again, my dad has it too, and his mother/my grandmother was a notorious light sleeper. So in that case it definitely runs in the family.

Thanks Brad. :)

Yes, I've thought about it a couple of times, but because things are so uncertain right now, it wouldn't be fair to the pet. Also, frankly, I can't afford it at the moment. At least the neighbours all seem to have a dog of some sort so I do get a bit of fun seeing them. Just not to cuddle at night.

Hey, I'm 44 and I still have my teddy bear! I don't sleep with it though. although last year I was having a tough time sleeping for a couple of weeks and I did sleep with Teddy for a couple of nights. (that's right my teddy bear's name is Teddy. Original eh?)

Yeh sometimes i can't sleep cause all my problems and thoughts are just racing through my head. It drives me nuts i wish i could just shut my brain down at night.

If i can't sleep i usually turn on the t.v., at least there is some noise and its not so quiet.

****, I'm glad there are other people out there that have that problem. I always feel sort of scared when I'm laying in bed about to fall asleep. Usually only if I had seen something on the news or read something on the internet. Lately I've been on snopes.com and that website for some reason scares the living **** out of me. I'm always afraid somebody's stalking me or watching me sleep- I know it sounds weird but I just become afraid for some reason when it gets dark outside.

It definitely is a relief knowing that other people get the same way. I thought I was just weird, but from reading this thread, it's obvious that they're are lots of other people who suffer with nighttime fears, and worries. It's kind of comforting to know that I'm not alone actually.

Sometimes I feel alone at night, too - especially when I'm having a panic attack or having a bad bout with my depression. Believe me Punky - I know what it's like to have your worries and crises in the back of your mind suddenly become your worst nightmare multiplied by 1,000. I'll get that sick to my stomach feeling too and stay up all night. My heart will also sometimes race (if it's a panic attack). Sometimes I feel as if I just wish my life would simply end - I just can't deal with that kind of pain.

I'm so sorry to hear how severe it can get for you, but believe me, I truly can relate. Last night I was so full of worry that I told God I would rather be dead than go through this everynight. I even pm'd a friend, sharing how bad I was feeling. So please know that you're not alone. You'll definitely be in my prayers. I'll pray that the nighttime gets easier for you, I promise. Hang in there!! :)

Hey, same goes for me too, Brad... okay?:)

I do get scared at night on occasion, not so much during the week, if I am exhausted from school... but on the weekends, especially because we have cases of vandalism in our neighborhood, I feel unsafe with my bedroom light on late at night. I'm afraid someone outside will see it and try to come in and attack me... it's just another of my unreasonable fears. I think it's exasperated by the fact that my mom has told me that she's seen people walking on the street in front of our house at 3:00am in the morning! It gives me shivers.:(

There seems to be many of us panic anxiety sufferers here at SO. When my panic anxiety was at its worst, I had real trouble sleeping too. My mother had to be in my room with me, when I feel asleep, and I was twenty years old. Then I got some pills for it, and I got better. After some months, I quit taking the pills for a while, and I got worse again. When I went back to the pills, I got better again, and now I'll never dare stop taking them again. :(
