Farrah Fawcett hospitalized in cancer battle

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Farrah Fawcett has been hospitalized in the latest stage of her battle against cancer, a producer working with the actress said Monday.

"She is not unconscious, she is not unresponsive, and she is not comatose," Craig Nevius told CNN.

He added that Fawcett "is surrounded by family and friends." She "has a real iron will" and is "a fighter," he said.

Nevius has been working with the 62-year-old on a documentary about her fight with cancer.

Earlier, he told People magazine that Fawcett had checked into "a Los Angeles hospital."

Fawcett was diagnosed in 2006. People magazine reported that she has anal cancer.

Early in 2007, Fawcett said she was told her cancer had gone into remission. Her official Web site has posts from February, 2007 celebrating the news.

But the cancer returned later that year.

Wow, a shock. She was supposed to have been cancer-free as of 2007.

I remember her in "Charlie's Angels." Used to watch that show every week until the change of characters became ridiculous. I still have some photos I cut out from magazines of the "Angels" from 1976.

Her doctor confirmed late last night that she now has cancer in her liver as well. While she's not at death's door right now, she is in critical condition.

I feel so bad for her. Every time I've seen her in interviews, she always came across as such a sweetie. Besides her CA role as Jill, I also enjoyed her roles in Logan's Run and The Apostle. Godspeed, Farrah. :bighug:

I've said it before, but I've always liked Farrah. I remember watching CA all the time when I was a kid. She was my favorite Angel. I had to go to bed at 10 back then and that's when CA aired . I used to listen to the show on the tv from my bedroom though and I always watched during the summer. The following year, CA moved to 9 so I could watch it every week but sadly she had left the show. I used to think she was the most beautiful woman in the world and she always came across as just a nice person. I hope a miracle can be found and that she can recover. She doesn't deserve to be going through this. :(

She was great in the Burning Bed. I saw that movie when it was originally on. I haven't seen it since though.

She got nominated for an Emmy for that one, if I'm not mistaken.

She was fantastic in that movie. I'm really surprised she wasn't hired for more after that but she may have, and just turned the offers down. So different from her Jill character or anything else she had done. She could definitely act.

Farrah Fawcett is an incredible actress. I'm surprised that she wasn't an A-Lister. I loved her in Small Sacrafices. I read the book. She had the looks and the talent to be a huge film star, not a Lifetime TV movie star. Really, what does Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina, Julia Roberts and the rest have on Farrah? I feel very bad that she's so sick. It sounds like she needs a miracle. She has my prayers.

Farrah Fawcett Asks Fans to Hold on to Hope

http://img2.timeinc.net/people/i/2009/news/090420/farrah_fawcett240.jpg

Farrah Fawcett's physician and a producer who works with her have released statements about her condition, following the news that the actress, 62, has been hospitalized in Los Angeles since Thursday. Her current treatment is the latest setback in her long battle with cancer, first diagnosed in 2006.

"On Farrah Fawcett's behalf, I can confirm that she recently checked into a Los Angeles hospital," the producer, Craig Nevius, says in a statement released to PEOPLE. "And although it is usually against her nature to correct false or exaggerated stories that originate in tabloid-style reports by offering true information that they would not otherwise have to publish, Farrah is allowing this statement out of appreciation for her fans, who have offered their constant support throughout her fight, as well as out of concern for the countless other cancer patients who have written her over the last two-and-a-half years in order to tell her that they are following her story in the hope that there is hope."

Speaking early Monday morning, he also said, "Tonight, Farrah has hope, and she hopes that others will continue to hold onto theirs."

Fawcett's physician, Lawrence Piro, M.D., who regularly consults with her doctors in Germany (where she sought treatment), issued this statement: "There have been some photographs that have been widely published of Farrah Fawcett in a wheelchair. The reason she was in that wheelchair is because she had a small procedure while in Germany and left for the airport soon after. She could have stayed in Germany to recuperate for a day or two but she was really very anxious to come home."

As a result, he said, "she took a nine-hour flight right after that procedure. It turned out that the procedure caused a small amount of bleeding in one of the muscles of her abdomen, making a hematoma, which was quite painful. Actually, it was painful for her to walk, which is why she was in that wheelchair. And that pain, which was coming from the hematoma, had nothing directly to do with the cancer."

In Good Spirits
Piro emphasized, "She's able to walk. And she remains in good spirits with her usual sense of humor. She's been in great shape her whole life and has an incredible resolve and an incredible resilience."

Nevius tells PEOPLE Fawcett is expected to return home in a few days.

The iconic Charlie's Angels actress has undergone chemotherapy and aggressive alternative treatments. She saw her cancer go into remission, only to return in May 2007.

Fawcett's friend, Alana Stewart, has been spending time at the hospital and was with Fawcett on Sunday night. She told PEOPLE, "Farrah's spirits are amazing. She has been amazing through this whole ordeal."

Without a doubt. Actually I was going to say the same thing about being an A-lister. I wonder if some of it didn't have something to do with "hollywood politics", her relationship (breakup) with Lee Majors and then going with Ryan. Wasn't Ryan already known for being a bit of a badboy or something?

Hang in there Farrah.

Ryan already had two divorces behind him by the time he hooked up with Farrah. Ironically, he and Lee Majors had been really close friends before Ryan and Farrah hooked up.

You make a good point, Cat. I wouldn't be surprised if Ryan held her back in her career. It just never made a lick of sense to me why Farrah wasn't a huge film star. She was very talented and outrageously beautiful. I'm having a hard time thinking of her counterparts in the 70s and 80s, on the big screen. Meryl Streep, Jodi Foster, Michelle Pfeiffer, Goldie Hawn...that's all I got.

Yes Monika, I remember reading that Lee asked his friend Ryan to keep an eye on Farrah, while he was away making a movie. Apparently Ryan mistakenly thought that Lee asked him to keep both eyes, and hands on her, and steal her away, lol. I shouldn't laugh. I always felt she should have stayed with Lee Majors. He seemed like a nicer guy to me, although I've heard that he had problems with Farrah's success. They made a gorgeous couple. I think that Ryan and Farrah were one of those big loves, like Liz Taylor and Richard Burton. Lots of booze and fighting, but lots of good making up. They had fun together. I read recently that Ryan spends a lot of time with her now.

Farrah even had it put into her Charlie's Angels contract that she be allowed to go home in time to make Lee dinner!! Besides, I always liked her full married name Farrah Fawcett-Majors. It had such a nice ring to it. In any case, Lee is happily remarried now, and I wonder if he and Farrah still talk.

I remember hearing that too. I think Lee was a bit of a control freak. Wanted more a "traditional wife". I felt badly when they broke up too, but can now see how there's no way any man would "tame" Farrah. She seemed like a free spirit, but knew what she wanted. I think both men no matter what would have held her back in her career somewhat. Too bad she never remarried a guy like Danny Moder (Julie Roberts' hubby). That probably would have been the best thing for her.

At least as Janice said, Ryan's been there with her this whole fight. I'll hand him that. And for that short show she had, it was very obviously the lifelong love they have for each other. Something I can quite relate to right now.

Actress Farrah Fawcett released from hospital
Thu Apr 9, 2009 9:09pm EDT

LOS ANGELES, April 9 (Reuters) - Cancer stricken actress Farrah Fawcett was released from the hospital on Thursday, following treatment for bleeding resulting from a medical procedure in Germany, celebrity magazine People reported.

Fawcett, 62, suffered light bleeding in one of the muscles of her abdomen after arriving in Los Angeles from Germany late last week and checked into an unidentified hospital.

On Thursday, her physician, Lawrence Piro, told People Fawcett had left the hospital and was looking forward to celebrating Easter at home.

Neither Piro nor a representative for Fawcett could be late reached Thursday afternoon to confirm the report.

Fawcett, who suffers from anal cancer, gained fame in the 1970s as a pinup model and an original cast member of the hit television show "Charlie's Angels." She earned Emmy nominations for her TV roles in 1984's "The Burning Bed," 1989's "Small Sacrifices" and 2001's "The Guardian." it was cathie, very sad indeed. i feel for farrah. what selfish behavior. when my husband was first diagnosed with his cancer (before we found out the stage) i worried if it turned out to be terminal that my husband wouldn't get closure with his son.

his son has a 12 year sentence and i still worry as anything can happen in the next 12 years. but even if he was out its unlikely they'd get along anyway - his son tried to kill him. came up to him and choked him from behind.
