I've tried for a long time to get the first names of all the Darling Boys and think I finally have it. Rodney, Doug, Oather, and Mitch. Anyone know if this is correct? If not, anyone know all four names?

honeybea,

According to the IMDB page for the episode "The Darling Fortune" (which aired on TVLand yesterday), the first names of the boys are: Doug, Rodney, Mitch, and Dean. This episode originally aired in 1966, and was apparently the last appearance by the Darlings in the series.

Also, I learned that Doug and Rodney are actually real-life brothers...I did not know that!

Thanks for the info! I knew there were some brothers, just not sure which ones. On the last show of the Darlings when they have $300 and come to town to marry off the boys, Mr. Darling made the remark that they had headlights now and "Doug" didn't have to sit in front and hold a flashlight. Maybe he said "Dean" instead of "Doug".:)

According to TAGS Book by Beck and Clark, the boys are: Doug, also called Jebbin, banjo; Rodney, guitar; Dean, also called Other(no a in it), mandolin; Mitch, bass fiddle.

In real life, Doug Dillard, Rodney Dillard, Dean Webb, and Mitch Jayne are The Dillards, a popular bluegrass band from Salem, Missouri.

Just visited a site about the Andy Griffith Show this afternoon, and read about the alternate names of two of the boys. I see that sar has already provided the information!

Great photos, Zoneboy.

By the way, while visiting the other Website, I learned that on August 8 of this year, Maggie Peterson Mancuso, who portrayed Charlene Darling on the show, will be joining "brothers" Doug and Rodney Dillard, and their band, at a performance in Troy, NC. Kinda cool to see the "family" reunited!

Great photos, Zoneboy.

Thank you, These were taken from a special that aired on Blue Highways TV. It was taped in 1993 and Rodney was 51 at the time

Thanks for the info! I live near Troy so I'll probably have to check that out.
