I could have told you that. It was a ghetto wine that was sold in the 'hood. That's why many whites on the show didn't know what ripple was.
We have our own ghetto drinks here, like Wild Irish Rose, and Rikoloff (My dad's favorite drink, lol) that doesn't market in the burbs.

GARFIELDKOOL 04-05-2009, 02:37 PM What exactly is Thunderbird? Never heard of it.
A cheap brand of liquor that in the inner-city markets. It suppose to be strong, though I have never tried it. It usually caters to older folks.

You should go out and get you a bottle, Solomon. Growing up in the projects, our next door neighbor use to drink it religiously.
Big Fred Fan 04-13-2009, 05:34 AM I really loved Rollo's pronunciation of Beaujolais! Ghetto chick: "What IS this?" Rollo: " Booze-Yo-Lay!"

TripperFan 04-14-2009, 11:51 AM LOL - about the closest I ever got to "Ghetto Wine" was some crap called "Ruby Rouge" - a "red wine" that tasted like red wine vinegar, but because it sold for $1.50 a bottle, it was a good, cheap buzz for a Saturday night for teenagers! lol
I swear the taste lingered for days in your mouth afterwards too. I think if I ever were that desperate for a buzz again, I'd go with Aqua Velva. ;)
Yooch 04-14-2009, 03:51 PM Back in the late 60's I took a couple of swigs of Ripple. I never did buy it, but it was offered to me. It tasted like a bubbly Sangria or Port, as I recall. It tasted ok, I suppose. Not being a wine elitist, I've never really cared whether I was drinking the "correct" wine. I drink it if I like it.
Junkoligist 09-23-2009, 09:42 AM Yeah, how about Cold Duck. I bought some just because i remembered hearing it on the show. It was terrible.

I beg to differ, cold duck is good. I think I am going to have to get some of that in the near future.
TVFactFan 09-23-2009, 06:53 PM I saw another reference to Ripple on a 70s sitcom that surprised me a bit the other night
"The Jeffersons"
And found out he had a look of disgust when asked did he have any Ripple because it was known as a cheap drink for that was mainly drunken by Bums on the street and Alcoholics

We make the Fred Sanford’s very own hangover drink called “A Bloody Mess”.
It’s not tasty, but you might surprised to hear what it is!
