I really don't see how she won a oscar for Monster's Ball. That movie really sucks and there was nothing special about her acting in it. I've seen her do better acting than that. Only thing i like about the movie is the sex scene between her and Billy LOL. I also like the sex scenes with Billy and Heath with the same prostitute girl hahahahahahahahahahahaha. She knew exactly what to do when they came into the motel room at separate times hahahahahaha. Halle should give her oscar back to the academy awards organization.

Yep, that was the movie. Sissy won the Globe, but Halle took the SAG Award and the Oscar.

To each his own - it wasn't my cup of tea.

I was really rooting for Renee to win that year, for Bridget Jones, but I knew she'd never get it. The part was just too much fun for them to give her a serious award.

Nicole Kidman was my second choice that year - not because Moulin Rouge was the best thing in the world, but because she was also in "The Others" that year and was far, far superior. But the Academy says an actor/actress can only be nominated once in any given category per year (which was also the reason Kate Winslet wasn't nominated for Revolutionary Road).

That year's winners were all a little strange. Remember, no African-American woman had ever won the Best Actress award, and she won the same night that Denzel Washington took Best Actor (only the second African-American to take that prize) and Sidney Poitier was given the honorary award. Hmmm.

^ I agree - if the Academy had wanted to recognize Nicole that year, they should've nominated her for The Others. That was a chilling performance in a not-too-shabby thriller - the ending wasn't something I'd seen coming. Don't forget Will Smith was also nominated that year for Ali.
