Neil Moritz's Fast & Furious may be receiving the most applause of any film awarded two stars (or fewer) from critics.
Roger Ebert in the Chicago Sun-Times, who gives it one and a half stars, comments that it is "exactly and precisely what you'd expect. ... You get your cars that are fast and your characters that are furious. ... This is an expertly made action film, by which I mean the special effects are good and the acting is extremely basic."
He concludes: "I admire the craft involved, but the movie leaves me profoundly indifferent."
Claudia Puig in USA Today notes that movie represents "Hollywood high concept at full tilt. Filmmakers must not care that the dialogue is sluggish and the performances are leaden. It's all about high-octane racing, souped-up cars and perilous stunts."
David Hiltbrand in the Philadelphia Inquirer also remarks that not much has changed from the previous episodes of this series. "It's still a gleaming display of chrome pornography set in the world of illegal street racing, where drivers strut like rock stars."
Mick Lasalle in the San Francisco Chronicle catches himself in mid-review by observing, "Here I am talking seriously about a screenplay that was probably written in crayon. The movie is ridiculous."
But he suggests that it's mostly "ridiculous fun."
Likewise, Peter Howell in the Toronto Star notes, "Let's acknowledge that nobody comes to this franchise, or ought to, expecting speedy Shakespeare."

isiahthomas 04-03-2009, 04:06 PM I've never cared what movie critics think. I'm gonna see it tomorrow. I miss seeing Vin Diesel in action films because he's been doing some lame movies after XXX and A Man Apart. I saw a movie of his that he directed called Strays. It's a straight to video movie. It was pretty good. Mike Epps is in it. Paul Walker is good in action flicks too. I like his Running Scared and Bobby Z movies. The white girl who was his girlfriend in Bobby Z is cute. I think her name is Olivia Wilde. I forgot Paul was in Into The Blue with hotties Jessica Alba and Ashley Scott. Jordana Brewster who's in the new Fast And The Furious and the first one as Paul's woman is cute too. I'm glad to see she's back in the new one and the other cutiepie from the first Fast And The Furious Michelle Rodriguez.
Dr. Thong 04-03-2009, 04:50 PM What an original title. At one point, Vin Diesel was the biggest thing in movies. He was even able to turn down a Fast And The Furious sequel. Then, he just kind of dropped off the box office radar.
And now...he's back doing this.
I've got nothing against Vin Diesel -- I thought XXX was pretty good. But the filmmakers should have come up with an actual title for this movie.
isiahthomas 04-04-2009, 02:16 PM I saw Fast And The Furious today and i liked it. Good action flick and hot women. I wonder who that girl is that liked Vin Diesel and she worked for the bad guys. She's cute. It was good seeing Michelle Rodriguez and Jordana Brewster again with their cute selves. Jordana has nice legs. The way the movie ended, it looks like there's gonna be another sequel.
Jude The Obscure 04-04-2009, 03:35 PM Another one I'll be checking out on DVD....these movies don't pretend to be high art, so movie critics need to stop reviewing them like they are.
JamesG 04-04-2009, 09:16 PM I'm a casual fan of this series. I enjoy them but they are not my favorites.
I saw The Fast and the Furious and 2 Fast 2 Furious.
I didn't see The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. I thought that it wasn't a part of the series, like a spin-off, but apparently Vin Diesel has a cameo in it.
This new one is said to take place between the second and third.
By the way regarding XXX, I did like it but I liked XXX: State of the Union better than the first.
Jude The Obscure 04-04-2009, 11:57 PM ^Yes he does, which is how I knew that a 4th one would have him back in it.
I liked it for what's it worth.
I heard Vin Diesel is also gonna be back for the next XXX movie....any truth to that?

At this point, I believe, it is not 100% official. Diesel has expressed interest in coming back and Rob Cohen wants to direct.
Nothing has been done regarding a script or anything like that yet.
isiahthomas 04-05-2009, 01:38 PM If he decides to do a 3rd XXX, i wanna see it because i liked the first one. JamesG you like the 2nd XXX better than the first one? Interesting. I thought the first one was better. Did you peep how big Marvin Gaye's daughter Nona's breasts were in the 2nd XXX? LOL. Nona is hot.

If they do a third XXX I will want to see it as well.
Yes, I liked the 2nd one better than the first; I found it more enjoyable. Also I like Willem Dafoe a lot so that's probably why also. There's also a great scene in that film with that all female instrumental band at the party; I forget their name now but they play great.
Must you always comment on leg shots and breasts? I mean yeah, I like them too but that's not why I watch a film.
That's probably the reason why these films feature those shots, cause they know that for some viewers that's the only thing they're there for.:D
JamesG 08-02-2009, 06:20 AM I heard Vin Diesel is also gonna be back for the next XXX movie....any truth to that?
I remembered you asked about this.
There was an interview with David Twohy about a return with himself and Diesel to a Chronicles of Riddick spin-off. In the interview he mentioned:
"I know Vin’s going to slide in "XXX" first. He’s doing a sequel to that the first of the year."
I'm sure we'll here more about this and see what's happening for early 2010. IMDB lists it as XXX: The Return of Xander Cage.
comedyfreak 08-02-2009, 03:36 PM I'm not a Vin Diesel fan the movie was mediocre at best. His female costar gave away the movie by complaining that she is always getting killed off in her movies.

I haven't seen the latest one yet. I know it came to DVD a few days ago.
Soon I'm going to get hold of all four and watch them all.
