In the episode: "Janet's Secret", we meet Janet's parents. In the episode: "Hearing is Believing", Janet's father comes back to visit without her mother. No explanation is given to her absence. In "Friends and Lovers", Janet gets married, and somebody says: "It is a shame her father could not attend." :confused:

What happened to Janet's mother? Perhaps they could not find the original actress to play her, and they didn't feel comfortable finding a substitute actress? Or did the character "pass away"?

I don't think it was ever specified. I'm assuming the character of Janet's mother just wasn't needed for the ep "Hearing is Believing." As for the last episode, imo it was just thrown together so quickly they probably didn't even bother to cast Janet's parents in the episode.

I think we saw Chrissy's mother only once too in the first season. She (Priscilla Morrill) later became the mother of Stephanie Vanderkellen in Newhart.

Seeing the roomates parents was one of the lowest points of the show for me. Never liked seeing their parents at all. Kind of like when I visited friends I wasn't happy with seeing their mom or dad for long periods of time-lol

Probably like most shows, they just use who they need in the episode. She was only needed in one episode, so they only used her in one episode.
