View Full Version : Hope & Faith - Season 1 DVD Review
The hilarious and underappreciated sitcom Hope & Faith is coming to DVD for the very first time from Lionsgate Home Entertainment in conjunction with ABC Studios! The hilarious first season of the ABC family sitcom will feature all 25 half-hours on a nice four-disc set packed with special features. Now you can relive or experience for the first time the antics of sisters Hope & Faith. This sitcom is a modern day style of classic TV duos such as Lucy & Ethel and Laverne & Shirley.
Hope (Faith Ford), a down-to-earth wife of Charley (Ted McGinley) and mother of three...lives life quietly in an Ohio suburb, until her celebrity sister, Faith (Kelly Ripa), comes barging into town. Faith single-handedly stirs up drama with the family; just as her ex-soap opera character did on TV. You can take the diva off daytime, but can't take the drama out of the diva. This family comedy will keep you laughing hard throughout each episode. The series stars Kelly Ripa as Faith Fairfield, Faith Ford as Hope Shanowski, Ted McGinley as Charley Shanowski, Nicole Paggi as Sydney Shanowski, Macey Cruthird as Haley Shanowski, and Paulie Litt as Justin Shanowski.

Raisingdad2004 03-28-2009, 09:45 PM This is, I agree, one of the most underrated sitcoms of our time. It's pure fun, through and through. It's not very serious, which I think is great but you know what reviewers are like ...
It's great to have special features as well, a shame it doesn't seem like 8 Simple Rules: Season 2 will. The glimmer of hope is that, from what I can gather at TVShowsonDVD.com, no special features were announced with the press release for Hope & Faith either, but it has them! Let's hope the same happens with 8SR: Season 2.

It's kind of strange how Lionsgate wouldn't announce special features along with the press release for this show. It seems to me it would only make the set better, so why hide them?
Hopefully you're right, that 8 Simple Rules will have special features, but they just weren't announced.
This sounds like a great release. I've only seen a little of this show, but I plan on buying it soon!

It is odd indeed. I think one reason might be that the extras weren't confirmed when the press release went out. Another TVShowsOnDVD report, for the series Spin City from another smaller studio (Shout! Factory), said the studio hoped to get the cast for some features but nothing was confirmed. So I think the smaller studios might have to sort extras out after they've announced the set, I assume because they have fewer people working for them to manage concurrent releases in the way the big guys might.
I hope they get some extras for 8SR S2, Buena Vista already produced one (http://www.usatoday.com/life/television/news/2007-07-19-cbs-party_N.htm?csp=34) but I'm not sure if they could use that.
Big C 04-10-2009, 01:25 AM Nice to see the show come out; I have grown to like it.
Ted McGinley makes me laugh, and it's fun contrasting him from the character he made famous on 'Married... With Children' (Charlie has a job, and we all know Jefferson did not)
Kelly Ripa, who I already know was a good talk-show host and actress, was quite easy on the eyes
The kids were funny
Faith Ford did a good job holding down the fort as the mom
Then we get to Sydney- from what I've read on this site, I am the ONLY guy who actually prefers Megan Fox to Nicole Paggi. I can't help it if I preferred the new Sydney- hotter, easier to relate to the character, and made for better plots.
Paggi never caught my eye, to be honest.

Trust me, there are many people who prefer Megan over Nicole. I, however, am not one of them. Nicole looked exactly like Faith Ford, the casting was perfect. I thought she was funny and could be sweet at times. Megan really can't act in my opinion and she really acts like bitch most of the time. Shes not likeable at all. Sydney turns into a completely different character. I don't think she has any chemistry with the cast, she acts like she doesn't want to be there. And I honestly don't find her attractive in the least bit.
