I believe this was a very short-lived sitcom that started somewhere in between 1989 and 1991. The show could be categorized as a teen comedy because the main focus was a teenage girl.

I think she was in a single-parent home and the backstory was that her father had died... but I'm not positive about this. Also, she may have had a little brother. Sorry I'm so vague. Here are facts:

She was blonde and had straight hair that ended at the shoulders.

At the time I'd read somewhere that the lead teen actress had been discovered on a beach (wasn't in tv/movies prior to this show).

There was an episode where she had one date with this blonde hearthrob-type guy (kinda looked surfer-ish), and instantly thought they were a couple. He had to explain that a date was just a date and didn't mean they were in a serious relationship. She wasn't hugely disappointed but instead happy to learn something about dating. Also, the very blonde guy from this episode was around during this time period. He wasn't a regular on the show, but I know I had seen him on other shows from time to time. I remember his face was almost sort of model-esque with sharp features, know what I mean?

She was a totally "normal" teenager, and didn't really fit a specific category.

It certainly wasn't critically acclaimed or anything. It's just really bothering me and I can't seem to find any info online about it! Any input is appreciated! :)

The plot is complete different frm what you said, but the episode you described sounds like an episode from "Hey Dude," called "Superstar" from early in the show. And, it did run from 1989-1991, on Nickelodeon. Not sure if this is your show, though.

No, it's definitely not "Hey Dude", but thanks for replying! This was definitely a girl-oriented show. It probably only attracted young female viewers, but I'm pretty sure it didn't come from Nickelodeon. It was the type of show that taught little life lessons and whatnot, all revolving around a teenage girl, kind of like "Blossom".

I just it funny you remember so much about the show but not one of the actors-lol I was going to say the show you are talking about is "MOLLY" which was in the summer of 1990 that featured the girl who played Blossom before she started Blossom a year later.

I'm wondering if the comedy that you are referring to is "A Brand New Life" with Barbabra Eden and 90210 alum Jennie Garth. Your description almost fits this show. The other show that I am thinking of is
"Out of this world".

"OUT OF THIS WORLD"!!! That's it! Wow, I'd totally forgotten about the sci-fi element. Thank you! It's funny that I remembered the very basic story of one episode but totally forgot she was half-alien. It looks like it started a few years before I thought it did... I didn't realize it ran for so long either. I also didn't know Burt Reynolds was involved! Thank you for giving me the answer. It was really driving me crazy.

Cool! I am glad that I could be of help. It ran from 1987-1991 in syndication. LOL. Cool. You can rest now.

BTW, Solomon, I am going to the reality boards to check out your post.

That's the one I thought of too (Clarissa Explains It All) only I couldn't remember the name. In fact I've been trying all day to remember that name. So thank-you Monika for posting it. Now I can finally return to sanity!(well my version of it anyway!)

Out of This World was a sitcom that ran on NBC from 1987-1991. The series follows the life of a teenage girl named Evie Garland who discovers she's half alien. Despite running for 4 seasons, many have forgotten about this "out of this world" show.
