View Full Version : Inspirational Celebrities
PunkyP0WER 03-27-2009, 09:41 AM I'll go first:
- JIM HENSON - I've always loved the Muppets but have recently began to appreciate the man behind them and the body of work. Jim Henson was such a visionary as well as an unpretentious, peaceful, humble and honest and truly down to earth person.
I think most people consider the Muppets as for kids but there was true genious involved there, the skits may have seemed silly at face value but there were a lot deep yet subtle messages there and the collaboration between him and Frank Oz through their teamed characters, rivaled many legendary comic duos. He was really one of those people you have to wonder and ask "what would have been?". Unfortunately since his death, the current Muppet projects have gone down the drain especially Sesame Street.
GILDA RADNER - I never really saw her work but after reading her book I was so inspired by her courage and unbreakable spirit. I think if she had lived she could have been as revered as Lucille Ball.
JOHN RITTER- A truly genuinely kind man with a God given gift of comedy.
TripperFan 03-27-2009, 11:11 AM Princess Diana and Mother Teresa always inspired me the most.
MickeyMac 03-27-2009, 02:33 PM Dick York for me. All the charity work he did when he was suffering himself and broke too.
Kirk Douglas-for personal reasons he is my hero.
Sharop 03-27-2009, 07:41 PM I know there are a lot of people who have done more important or groundbreaking things, but I have been a Bee Gees fan for a long time and they and their music are very important to me, so I personally have to say them.
Also they're apparently very kind. Maurice especially was always up for a chat with fans.
steevo 03-27-2009, 11:42 PM Paul Newman - He used his "Newman's Own" brand of foods to benefit several charities and also started a camp (Hole In The Wall) for disadvantaged kids. Also, he remarked one time about his strong (50 Years) marriage to Joanne Woodward when asked about infidelity "Why go out for hamburger when I have steak at home?". He was utterly devoted to her. You don't see that very much anymore, sadly. :(
U2's Bono - He raises awareness for several world issues such as AIDS.
LuLu Rogers 03-28-2009, 01:21 AM John Ritter- A very special man who spread joy and laughter around the world. We lost him too soon :(
Alan Alda- Not just because I love M*A*S*H, but because of this: Right after 9/11 he went to ground zero and talked to all of the firemen, policemen and rescue workers. He asked them if there was anything they wanted. One of them mentioned that someone had brought some candy bars to them one day and they were really nice to have, so Alan called the Hershey company and bought a warehouse full of candy bars for the workers and paid to have them stored in a special cooling warehouse so they wouldn't melt. He also took the time to listen to a girl from Alabama talk about her cousins death in Iraq, took her hands in his, and conveyed his sorrow to her. As you can guess, that girl was yours truly. I love this man, he's truly my hero. :)
Darren J. 03-28-2009, 01:43 AM Joe Delaney- former football player
His story is so sad, I don't even want to type it. I'll just post the link and you can all read it.

BeavisandButthead 03-28-2009, 05:17 PM Michael J. Fox for obvious reasons
sunshinefizzy 03-28-2009, 07:03 PM Gregory Peck- Great guy. Many people who knew him said they didn't know where Atticus Finch ended and Greg began.
Jimmy Stewart- Another great man who was a patriot to the core and helped America kick Germany's ass in WW2
Audrey Hepburn- Great lady who used her own pain of living through the deprevation of war to help future generations of young war victims through UNICEF.
Grace Kelly- Did many wonderful things for Monaco after becoming princess. Heading the Red Cross and various other charities.
Jane Fonda- Controversial choice I know, but with her experience with self esteem issues and sexuality issues, she helped start a foundation for women to get educated about sex & rape and know that they can rise above those issues.
Just a few examples!!!
OH Nuts! 03-29-2009, 01:13 AM Tina Turner - she dumped the cokehead woman hitting yutz, believed in herself... and her career ultimately soared into the stratosphere - guess we found out who the talented half was!
Bette Davis - for her courage and perseverence in her later yrs. - the stroke, the cancer, the knife in the back from cuckoo bird ingrate daughter - yet Bette kept on trucking and worked until the end - God Bless Her - and us - for her many fine cinematic gifts. I can watch some of her classics many times over.
...I'm sure I'll come up with more...(a little tired right now)
tv star collector 03-29-2009, 08:50 AM I have to mention three of my childhood heroes, who I think were excellent
role models:
1. Buffalo Bob Smith (Howdy Doody)
2. Jimmie Dodd (The Mickey Mouse Club)
3. Roy Rogers & Dale Evans (The Roy Rogers Show)
They don't come much better than that.

Mariah Carey - Mariah has made some very inspiration songs that have helped so many of her fans through hard times in their life. Since she is a bi-racial person many of her fans including me can relate to her in that way. She will always be an inspriation to me and her fans.
