View Full Version : Odd request by sales person
Waterston_Fan 03-25-2009, 07:00 PM Have any of you gone to a clothing store that is like Target but no food and it's called Ross? It has low prices and it's right next to my store.
I went in today to check on shoes and of course I had to ask they cut the tie that keeps the shoes together off of them. I went to the shoe department and they told me I had to try on the shoes in the fitting room.
I'm like, what? I'm trying on shoes, not clothes. I did try on the shoes in the fitting room but they still didn't fit. There was no bench for the shoe department though so...
I thought that was odd to have to try on shoes in the fitting room. Anyone know why?
Mr. Television 03-25-2009, 07:08 PM I have no idea. That is odd.
MonarC 03-25-2009, 07:09 PM Weird. Yeah I have been to Ross too. It's such a mess.
That does seem odd. Once I was trying on shoes and one of the boxes had a pair of used shoes in it. That really takes alot of gall to leave your old shoes and walk off with the new ones.
Brad Russ 03-26-2009, 02:59 AM Maybe someone with really smelly feet changed their shoes in the store, and stunk up the joint, and that caused them to change their policy.
Seriously though, that does seem pretty odd. Maybe they just look at it as a hygiene thing, and think doing it in the dressing room is more appropriate. Or maybe that particular store is just full of uptight jerks, who knows.
Janice 03-26-2009, 03:24 AM That's is strange. My guess is they've had shoplifters take off with shoes or sneakers, and this is a security measure.
browneyes106 03-26-2009, 09:14 AM I go to Ross stores a lot here. I have never bought shoes from there. That does sound weird that they told you to do that. I agree it could be a security policy.

That's all I can figure here - they may have security cameras in the dressing rooms and wanted to make sure you were on camera.
That's what creeps me out - is that it's legal to put cameras in the dressing rooms.
The other thing I hate are the mirrors in the dressing rooms at Wal-Mart. Don't know about the States, but here, they put those curved mirrors in the dressing rooms that take about 15 lbs. off of you. So you put on a pair of jeans and they look great there, and then you get home and find you actually look like a stuffed sausage in them. It should be illegal too!
Chocoholic 03-26-2009, 02:58 PM That does sound like an odd request, but I agree it was probably for security reasons. It's a shame so many stores have to do that kind of thing.
I once had an employee at WaldenBooks yell at me for reading a book I was considering to buy. (I like to skim the first chapeter or two to see if the book interests me before I buy it.) I don't know why she told me I couldn't stand there and read, but it kept me from ever going back to that store. It actually went out of business about a year later.

Seinfeld did an episode about that too. Elaine bought a dress at Barney's, got it home and it looked like she was wearing a tent. She blamed the mirrors at the store. I forget what Jerry called the mirrors, but the episode was hilarious.

Aaah yes - the black dress episode! EXACTLY!! LOL
They've actually proved that it does happen. The bend the mirror slightly inwards so that it makes you look thinner. That's why I like someone being with me when I go shopping. I also don't trust the sales clerk to say it looks good - I was told to do that "no matter what" when I worked in a clothes store. I couldn't do it.
Jerry probably called them funhouse mirrors or something - that's my name for them. Now if they could make those into glasses for everyone else to wear to look at you they'd be onto something!! ;)

That was pretty funny.
Waterston_Fan 03-26-2009, 04:28 PM I never thought about the security issue.
That being said, they didn't have very good selection anyways.

So why the security?
Doodyville10019 03-26-2009, 08:49 PM So why the security?
Probably for people who either (a) have poor taste; or (b) are desperate.
catlover79 03-26-2009, 08:59 PM Never heard of Ross. I guess it's not an Ohio thing.

There might not be one in Ohio.
It's like in some parts of the East Coast there is a grocery store called Food Lion or Giant when here in San Diego we have a store called Vons. Which is the same as Food Lion or Giant. ;)
catlover79 03-27-2009, 08:59 PM ^ We don't have those in Ohio either, but here are the big supermarkets in my neck of the woods:
