Alda is actually more than just an actor, TJ. He has had reallife political influence (like going to State houses he describes this in his autobio)!

I have little doubt that Tom knows more about Alan Alda than most anyone here on the board.

Mash is more than just a TV show. It had real life footage in several eps (like the ep where they the Mash Olympics).

I think everyone here knows that.

Not everyone who is a fan here realizes that.

You don't speak for everyone. Everyone should have their own opinion about the show, so just let it go.

It seems pretty beyond dispute, Lulu, that reallife documentary footage inserted into an otherwise fictional show can make that show more important than just fiction. Just as Alda's influential state house visits make him more than just a guy in show biz! The man who lead 550 million people in peace time is generally more vital than the man who leads one million people in peacetime! Some things are beyond opinion! I restate this fact about Mash documentary footage from time to time for mostly new readers to these boards!

You make it sound as if the new readers aren't aware of these facts. Just because a person is new to the boards doesn't mean they don't know anything about the show. I'm only a casual fan and haven't seen anywhere near the entire series but I'm well aware of the fact that documentary footage was used.

I agree with Charles.

Best Man, let's stop this little discussion, ok? If people don't know about the real footage, they can ask. Otherwise, just assume that people know. This is me speaking as a moderator now.

We were discussing that we think every M*A*S*H fan knows that there is real war footage in some episodes. :)
