View Full Version : OUCH! NBC Ratings Now Behind Univision!

President Obama guesting on Jay Leno last night gave NBC's The Tonight Show its highest ratings in five years. But it looks like the nation's chief is going to have to make cameos on all the network's shows if NBC is ever going to climb out of the ratings cellar. How bad is it? Well, on Wednesday night, NBC couldn't even beat Univision. That's right, Univision topped NBC in both the 8 PM hour (1.7/1.9 compared to NBC's The Chopping Block which did only 1.2/1.3) and the 9 PM hour (2.2/2.4 compared to NBC's Life which did only 1.5/1.5). And Univision spends zero on original production. I fear Jeff Zucker is increasingly following that business model.

Why should their broadcast channel be any different than their cable news channel?

The current telenovelas on Univision aren't even that good, either! Shame on you, NBC.

Friday Night Lights usually does better than The Chopping Block and Life, and FNL is technically in reruns! People can watch the episodes online before they even air.

If they stopped airing so much garbage and focused on quality programming, maybe then more people would watch.

Yes, but the networks suits are so greedy and clueless. They'll never learn.

I agree. the only good that can come of this is more people will be turning off the TV and finding different things to do.

I looked it up - it was called Mr. Smith and aired in 1983.

It was Mr. Smith. The Chimp was a real pro too. He had co-starred with Clint Eastwood in Any Which Way You Can and with Bo Derek in Tarzan.

"Lewis and Clark" - I vaguely remember that one. Wasn't Gabe Kaplan (Mr. Kotter) in it?

Well every new decade it seems like one of the Big Four will take a nose dive in the ratings. I guess from 2010-2019 it will be another network's turn or Zucker may just have to go-lol
