AT TVSODVD they announced today that Warner is going to start manufacturing dvds on demand, movies now and eventually tv shows. I wonder if other studios will follow suit so the collectors can finish their All in the Family, Jeffersons, Bob Newhart and Green Acres sets, not to mention Mary Tyler Moore!

My only problem with this idea is the packaging these dvds would come in. Would we get nice artwork and decent boxsets, or just plain old dvds in a case?

There is a system that permits manufacturing on demand-not only creating the dvd but also placing it into a hard plastic case featuring custom art.


What the dvd's dont come with are any extras-no commentary tracks,no delated scenes.you get the film and ,if it's available,the orginal trailer.

I'm not looking for any extras anyway, so if this means we get the movies we've been wanting, and eventually the TV series.....I'm fine with it.

Well, this is long overdue. Sony was in talks about doing this with HP a while back but we haven't heard anything more about it. So it looks like Warner is the first studio to introduce this concept apart from the odd amazon.com exclusive burn-on-demand title.

Hopefully, Warner will include shows like Flo, Alice, It's A Living, She's the Sheriff and Private Benjamin.

As for the concept, if it means we get complete episodes in dvd quality, I'm all for it (with or without artwork). I just hope they open their vaults and make rare shows available like one season wonders and such.

Not exactly. They will have a list of titles that you can order and then they'll burn the movie or TV show onto DVD-R's. Right now no specific tv shows were announced (only some names dropped as possible examples). It's only titles they feel won't sell well in normal retail stores. It's just like amazon has Charles In Charge season 4 for burn on demand.

I wonder how well that title is selling for Amazon, btw.

I hate this idea. I just got a TV set of shows on DVD-R's and the quality was awful. I won't be buying these DVDs. The quality will more than likely be very poor.

Depends on the quality of the source tapes and if they had major deteriation in the vaults.

You're not dense...lol. Let's see DVD-R can easily be found in your local Wal-Mart or Target. You can record on them with a DVD recorder. A DVD_R disc can only be used once to record on. It can't be recorded over or erased. While a DVD+RW is a disc that can be used as many times to record a program from your TV from a DVD recorder. The DVD+RW can be erased and then used over and over again to record your favorite shows.

If Warner decides to not release something officially, but will burn the full episodes for me onto a DVD, I'd be more than happy! It's nice that they are giving the option to fans of shows that may not sell well commercially. This way, we can get the shows we love without worrying if they'll be released or if they will stop releasing them if sales are flat.

I agree. Unfortunately so far all they have put out are movies. I have bought a few, but I wish they would announce some tv shows soon.

WB has the video rights to Madhouse at the moment and my copy from HBO is wearing out...

But I'd like to see some short-lived shows released like "Flo", "Private Benjamin" and "She's the Sheriff". Since they never released "Alice" as a complete first season set. That would be great too. Also "It's A Living" would be great! :)

I would like to see Alice and Flo both put out MOD by Warner. Are they the owner of these series? Plus I really want more Cheyenne, Bronco, Sugarfoot, Maverick, 77 Sunset Strip, etc.

Yes, I think they own all the shows I mentioned. But I'm sure they own "Alice" & "Flo". Would be great to have these on dvd in any format from Warner. :)
