View Full Version : OK, then, what now?
JMFabiano524 03-22-2009, 07:17 PM OK to put it lightly, Rhoda Season 1 is not what it could have been. But as such, where does the show go from here? If Shout is not to be trusted, who else can do the job? Fox? (Past events would make that doubtful that they'd be much better, and that is being nice) Anyone else?
And would we EVER see the show again? (Also doubtful, AmericanLife or WGN America MAYBE...but the mainstream channels with their fear of demographics sadly won't touch it)
What do you see happening?
TVFactFan 03-22-2009, 08:33 PM Maybe WE or Lifetime will pick up the show in the future.

And perhaps pigs might take flight on the same day...;)

Seeing as they just dropped The Golden Girls, and that they have a somewhat new direction (which involves lesser classic input), I don't see Lifetime doing it. All the better, I couldn't own up to watching that channel, even for Rhoda (which is why I am glad GG is on WE now instead).
As for WE, granted they have GG now, but not sure if I can see them going to the '70s...
TVFactFan 03-22-2009, 09:21 PM Well I figure it's a chance because it's a FEMALE stcom and Laverne and Shirley was picked up by Lifetime in 2004. Unless they are moving away from older female shows or shows from before 1980 like TV SH*Tland

That is EXACTLY what they are doing. Like I said, they're all obsessed with demographics and think all 18-34s hate anything old (I bet that's not entirely true, I'm living proof...)
OK I understand you have to cater to the "next" generation, but don't treat the past ones like nothing, like they're going to go extinct any day now.

True. "The Best Of Rhoda" video set came out years ago (with mostly edited episodes). it is now out of print, and USED copies range from $49 to $70! So what's the better deal, when there is nothing else available? 9 ep's v.s. 25, edited or not?
Man! How much have people paid for bootleg copies of shows they love for much more? Crappier versions still.
The circumstances of the new set suck, but it's still better than nothing. The world ain't coming to an end. I don't plan to wait for the PERFECT version to come out. I want to enjoy it NOW, whatever it is.

Mmm-hmmm. Everyone is copying EVERYTHING, whether it be each other, the same old trends, or trying to remake things that were GOOD the way they WERE. It's not a happy time for the media. And I'm not sure if it will ever get better (though how hard is it to beat a media where certain people whose names rhyme with Harris Milton are famous, and we keep pumping out sequels to "[GENRE] Movie"???)

Was Columbia House's the 2-parter format, or the 1-hour one?

When my family puts everyone's name in a bag and we then pick a name and that's who we buy a Christmas gift for.

Cool...
Anyway back on topic: if not Shout! then who? And does Rhoda have any kind of future?
Chrisothebigc 03-23-2009, 12:06 PM I think "Rhoda" has a future, and I believe it will appear on tv again, at some point. However, the re-release of it will probably continue to be frustrating.
I was on ebay checking things out, and the vhs of "Rhoda" featuring the first two ep's (cut) is going for $30!

Why would two CUT eps from Columbia House be $30? Unless you mean UNCUT from CBS with Original 1974 Commercials included

As far as I know, Columbia House never released any "Rhoda' videos. I'm talking about the 2 episode MTM show tapes that were issued back in the early 90's: Newhart, Rhoda, Phyllis, The White Shadow, ect. The first ep of "Rhoda" does not have the scenes with Mary Tyler Moore...thus, they are cut. Edited. Incomplete.
The reason why it's $30.00 is because that is what the seller is trying to get. All of those videos are of course, loooong out of print.
