View Full Version : Did Anybody Else Get Seasons 1 & 2 Yet?
Skywalker 03-16-2009, 11:35 PM I'm just wondering if anyone else got it yet. For some reason, my copy arrived today, which is weird because it's only the 3rd time I've ever got a set before it was available in stores. Not really a big deal since it comes out tomorrow, but still, it's pretty cool to get something before it's officially available.
I've watched the first 3 episodes so far. I'm ashamed to admit this, but before today, I'd only seen a couple episodes of this show and that was on youtube. I like it so far though. The best characters are George, Wesley and Mr. Belvedere. I like the mom too, but I'm not sure about the other kids. They don't seem to really add much to the show but then again, I've only seen a few episodes so that might change. The theme song is great! :D
Lucky you. I ordered it last week from Amazon and got the email that I was shipped today, the official release date. The email stated that it should arrive by next Monday, the 23rd. However, now that I live in Japan, things can take longer depending on how they are mailed.
I am quite exited about getting this. It was one of the few shows from the 80's that I looked forward to watching when it was originally broadcast.
TV_Fan 03-17-2009, 01:53 PM According to amazon mine delivered today. I'll know when I get home. i hope so. i can't wait.
I did see it on store shelves this weekend at Best Buy & FYE. Some stores must receive it early & put it out. Hoepfully it sells well.
Scoobiedoo30 03-17-2009, 03:20 PM I have not got the Season 1 or 2 of Mr Belvedere but it is on my list.
McFly121 03-17-2009, 03:21 PM Yes, I want FULL REPORTS from you people on how great and underrated this show was. As one of the few who taped all the seasons, I've been watching it for 25 years now and know its greatness. Now that seasons 1 and 2 are out, the fans who "kinda remember that show" and who have been clamoring for the dvds...well, it'll be interesting to hear their assessment.
Season 1 isn't *hugely* funny, but about midway through season 2 it hits its stride. The tornado ep, the delivery of Kevin's lab partner's baby, Kevin's drinking contract, Wes' accordion teacher, Belvey obsessed with pinball, Wes' fatal attraction valentine (guest starring Fergie!), Amish, George and Belvey's drunken candlelit dinner...
Damn good stuff!
TV_Fan 03-17-2009, 08:29 PM So far I've watched the first 4 episodes & the special features. All I can say is MAN I MISSED THIS SHOW!
Jman4200 03-18-2009, 03:49 AM I was really bummed i went to best buy, target, and walmart and couldn't find it I guess i'll just have to order it online.
OKCRay 03-18-2009, 06:41 PM Got mine yesterday and I'm loving it!!!
TV_Fan 03-23-2009, 08:41 PM Well I'm on the 5th disc and will probably finish the set tomorrow. As I said earlier, I really missed this show. I haven't seen episodes in years. I can honestly say that watching this set has made me love the show even more. The episodes are even funnier than I remember. I'm really enjoying catching those adult jokes that I missed when I was a kid watching this show when it first aired. This is one show that still holds up for sure.
dawhite 03-24-2009, 10:45 PM It's a great dvd I bought it on the walmart website. Was wondering if anybody knew how well it's selling I went to amazon.com and it seems to be doing very good over there.
Well, surprise, surprise. My set did arrive on the day Amazon promised even though I live in Japan and dates for delivery promised in the past have never been met before. Over the last few nights I have watched the first two disks and several episodes from disk three. It has been twenty years since I have seen most of these episodes. Some random thoughts and one technical error.
1. From the beggining, the writters and directors knew that they had some strong actors in Chrisoper Hewett and Brice Beckam. They wrote their best dialogue for those two, and they in turn delivered.
2. I have read comments that some find this show was not funny in the first season and it is a fact that it never was high in terms of ratings during its entire run. I think that this is possibly due to the more subtle and dark humor. In many ways this show's humor reminds me of some British comedies.
3. Tracy Wells' acting abilities leave much to be desired. Sadly, too, every outfit she wore on the show is a bad cliche of 80's style.
4. In the episode "Vows" on disk three at 15'58" as George walks out the bathroom you can see a mike just above the bathroom door.
Looking forward to watching more episodes over the next several days.
Classicshowsgurl15 03-25-2009, 03:28 PM My mom got hers in the mail yesterday. We have already watched two episodes. I haven't seen that many episodes of the show, but the ones i've seen are great. It's a great 80s show. :D
catlover79 03-25-2009, 03:44 PM I just put a hold on it at the library. Once I watch the set, I will share my thoughts here!! :D
TV_Fan 03-25-2009, 10:12 PM Well I finished the set yesterday. Now I can honestly say that I am literally sad that I'm done. I'll probably re watch some episodes again soon. It was great watching the episodes & reliving the memories of when I first saw them. Hopefully we'll have word of season 3 soon.
DJM77 03-29-2009, 06:23 PM Wes' fatal attraction valentine (guest starring Fergie!)
Whoa! I just got done watching that episode and even though I knew that she did some acting as a child, I didn't realize that was her! What's funny is I seem to remember Mr. Belvedere being discussed on VH1's I Love The 80's and Fergie and one of the other Black Eyed Peas poppped up and there was no mention of her ever appearing on it. The Black Eyed Pea that was with her asked her if she remembered Mr. Belvedere's first name. She didn't.
I haven't seen this show in years. It's been great seeing it again! I didn't remember Brice Beckham being such a talented actor. After watching the 1st disc I had to skip to the 5th disc so I could see the SNL sketch and the cast interviews. It was a shame that Tracy Wells wasn't there. Bob Ueker and Rob Stone both look about the same but older. Brice Beckham looks totally unrecognizable and Ilene Graff seems to have not aged at all!
catlover79 05-21-2009, 03:40 PM I just got it from the library and will try to start it tonight. Gotta love the 80s shows.
catlover79 05-27-2009, 10:53 PM Almost finished! I still enjoy it as an adult. :D
TV_Fan 05-28-2009, 01:08 PM Almost finished! I still enjoy it as an adult. :D
I actually enjoy it even more as an adult. I picked up on a lot of jokes I missed as a kid.
