 Two more characters that went into no man's land like Chuck Cunningham and Debbie Morgenstern are Walter and Dottie Richards, Mary's parents who moved to Minneapolis, around the corner from Mary, in the second season, but then we never see or hear about them again. Did they decide they didn't like living there? Just kind of weird.

Walter came one more time to fix the lock on Mary's door - that was all she wrote!! They're probably on the Island of Misfit TV Characters along with Chuck Cunningham, Judy Winslow, Carl Dixon, Debbie Morgenstern, etc.

Hey would you visit your relatives if they had a TV camera in their living room? Walter and Dottie are probably just camera shy!

I know what happened to Dottie, Dorothy Katherine Meredith Richards was leading a double life. When Mary was young, she left Dr. Richards and Mary and ran off with a man named Romano. She had another daughter and named her Ann, she married Mr. Romano and started using her middle name, being Katherine Romano. They lived in Indiana. She got bored with this existance, and returned to Minnesota to be Dottie Richards again. Then years later, she got sick of Walter, and heard her daughter in Indianapolis had children so she went back there to be Grandma Romano ! In the meantime Mr. Romono, had split years ago never to be heard from again.

Likewise, Walter took the name of Mr. Van Ranseleer and moved to Queens, NY. There he befriended a guy named Archie Bunker and became a regular patron at his bar.

And did you know that Mary Richards isn't really Mary Richards. She's really Laura Petrie, the wife of a TV writer from New Rochelle, New York. Just living in Minneapolis under an assumed name!

Plus, he was the mailman in Dr. Robert Hartley's medical building in Chicago. At that time, he went by the name Eddie.

and years ago, in the 50s, Dottie was on a variety show on NBC called "CEASERS HOUR" where she was a partner to Sid Ceaser.

I think they are all in the Federal Witness Protection Program! They are all under assumed names.
