View Full Version : How many States have you visited in your lifetime?

Brad Russ

Officially for me it's three, unless you count being connected in other States airports, which I don't. For me, unless you're outside the States airport, you're not really in that State. Airports don't count. Anyway, the three States I've been to are Arizona twice, Las Vegas twice, and Detroit. The next two places I want to visit are California, and Massachussetts. I'm sure a couple people on this site know why. ;) Anyway, what States have you visited, and do you plan on visiting anymore in the future??

Guess it's 7:

New York
Michigan
California (if you count a stopover in LA)
Illinois (if you count a stopover in Chicago)
Nevada
Texas
Florida

EDIT - Duh - how could I forget - been to lovely suburbia Cleveland - so you can add Ohio and I guess by Brad's rules, delete CA and IL, so 6.

I've been going to America since I was an infant but we generally only go to North Carolina and South Carolina because that's where our relatives are based. However, there was one summer, in August 2002 where we took a trip through several states.

So the States I've visited are:

North Carolina
South Carolina
Tennessee (we went to Nashville and Memphis)
Georgia (we went to Savannah)

Miami - I'm not sure if this one counts as we remained in the airport during a stopover flight. But we were in Miami. We just didn't get to see any of it.

Brad, I think you mean Nevada and Michigan.

If I were to make a list, I would have to make a list of states I have NOT visited. I have yet to visit Hawaii and Alaska. I have been only to the Four Corners National Monument to count Arizona (that's where Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah meet), but I will be taking a trip to the Grand Canyon State this summer!

In addition, I have visited each county and their respective county seats in 22 states; I will be finishing Maryland later this month, with Kansas and Colorado to follow in July. That will give me half of the states done!

http://smileys.emoticonsonly.com/emoticons/r/road_trip-175.gif

IMO It's official only if you SET FOOT in the state, so if it's just for a rest or food stop it's official. In 1985 I missed Belgium by THREE FEET. (The Train I was on, en route from Marsallles, France to Cologne, Germany passed through Belgium, but didn't stop so there was no opportunity to set foot in that country. Other countries I saw from a distance were:

Portugal (Flew over)
Sweden (Saw from a distance from Denmark)
Ireland (Flew over)
Cuba (Saw from offshore)
Venezuela (Flew over)
Dominican Republic (Flew Over)
Haiti (Flew Over)

En route from Ontario to British Columbia in 1986 (To attend the World's Fair in Vancouver) I flew over the Canadian Provinces of Saskatchewan and Alberta

PS When I flew to Vancouver in 1986 it was cheaper to fly from Windsor, Ontario to Vancouver, British Columbia than it was to fly from Detroit, Michigan to Daytona Beach, Florida!

PS, on the way back from Vancouver I got to sit in the upper deck of a 747! :D

In my previous post I posted this map of the states I've visited but somehow I skipped Illinois. When we travel to Wisconsin(to visit my sister) we usually go the Southern route and we have to go into Illinois to get up there! We sometimes go the Northern route through the Upper Peninsula over to Wisconsin but although it is a beautiful route it takes a couple of hours longer.
