Monk in the Middle by William Keck
Monk has just begun shooting it’s eighth and final season of 16 episodes to start airing this summer and, according to star Tony Shalhoub, “The writers are hard at work wrapping up the unresolved storylines.” One of the unresolved threads involves Bitty Schram, who was unceremoniously dumped as Monk’s partner, Sharona Fleming back in 2004 and replaced with Traylor Howard as Natalie Teeger. Besides a recent Ghost Whisperer episode, Bitty hasn’t worked much since and would welcome a return to the USA Network show. “I have a really good feeling that it’s going to happen.” Confides Tony, who caught up with Bitty last April when their co-star Stanley Kamel (Monk’s shrink, Dr. Kroger) passed away. “As much as the audience has embraced Traylor as Natalie, they feel it was sort of unfinished with Sharona. There’s an opportunity to offer closure to the whole thing.” Tony says one plot being discussed involves Sharona and Natalie swapping war stories about their misadventures with Monk.
