The X-Files Game

The X-Files Game came out in 1998 for the PlayStation and PC. The game is played in an outdated style of gaming called Full Motion Video (FMV). You play the game with pre-recorded live footage and you point-and-click the screen controlling what goes on.

The plot of the game is that you are an FBI agent investigating the disappearance of Mulder and Scully. Along the way you come across to discover how alien life form are taking over humans.

The game is actually part of the series as Chris Carter gave the game an episode title. It takes place within Season 3 of The X-Files and was filmed a short time before the first X-Files feature film began. Duchovny and Anderson's appearance in the game were quite brief because of this reason.

I remember this game a lot from when it first came out and I still love it. I have the PlayStation version and it is 4 discs. That's one of the reasons many did not like it because of how many discs this thing needed to load; the PC version was 7 discs.

This is still a great game and most X-Files fans that I know were pleased with it. It's pretty much like you are watching an episode of the show and just waiting for you to decide what to do.

Characters from the show who appeared were:
Fox Mulder
Dana Scully
Walter Skinner
The Lone Gunmen
Agent Pendrell
Cigarette Smoking Man

The X-Files: Resist or Serve

The second X-Files game was The X-Files: Resist or Serve. This came out in 2004 on the PS2.

This was a more "standard video game" in the style of Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

The game takes place within Season 7 of the show and the actors from the show provided the voices for their characters within the game.

The plot of the game is that you are in control of Mulder and Scully sent to investigate bizarre murders and occurences going on within a town located in the Rocky Mountains. You track the killer down to Siberia and stumble upon an alien spacecraft buried within the Earth and must stop the "black oil" from spreading.

This game was meant only for X-Files fans. If you did not follow the show and know who the characters were you would have no clue with what's going on in the game and not catch all of the in-references.

The gameplay was decent and the graphics were nothing spectacular but for a game based off of a television show it was good. I still play this sometimes.
